What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Phoenix restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Phoenix, AZ, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Phoenix, AZ

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Record heat challenges AZ State Fair attendees

Arizona State Fair workers and attendees are finding ways to battle hotter-than-average temperatures at the 2024 rendition. FOX 10's Brian Webb has the story.

The high temperature on Oct. 4 was somewhere around 107°.

As a reminder: most of the Arizona State Fair is on pavement where the temperature gun reads even higher.

Heat waves sizzle over the searing blacktop and even at the fair, the heat is just no fun.

"Yeah, we have to have a whole pack of water and everything so no one gets dehydrated. It's just so hot, still. I thought the weather was gonna get better, but apparently not," said one fair attendee.

Daytime visits are something of a fashion show. Cool hats and sunglasses, to colorful umbrellas for the sun, not the rain, are all on display.

"And I burn easily. I turn into the red lobster so I brought my umbrella and shades because I have light-colored eyes, so that doesn’t help either," said another customer.

Cinne, who works the local honey stand, knows the tricks like keeping her phone in a cooler. It’s not her first rodeo.

There are first aid and water stations on the grounds and visitors are urged to come prepared.

"Bring sunglasses, hats, sunscreen. We ask that you come to the fair. Enjoy it and still be safe," Brianda Martinez, who works at the Arizona State Fair said.

Most of the excitement moves indoors during the daylight hours to stay cool in air conditioning, from animals to art exhibits.

Watch FOX 10 Phoenix live:

"We came here and we immediately came inside. It was really hot, so I’m like ‘let’s cool down a little bit. Get some water. Let them see the animals and then we’ll go out there,’" said another attendee.

There are other ways to stay cool outdoors. Anything frozen or wet will usually help and two tourists reminded us, at least it’s not Florida hot.

Employees are braving the heat too.

Most of them seek shade one way or another and they are getting more and longer breaks to help them make it.

My View: Arizona angel investors rejoice as Phoenix startup scores huge funding round

Our Angel investment group, Arizona Tech Investors (ATI), was just part of a ‘voluntary’ successful exit in our Arizona startup ecosystem that needs to be shouted from the rooftops. It was voluntary – as investors were offered liquidity, and not required to sell – and some of us are staying in the deal (50/50 for yours truly).Phoenix-based ...

Our Angel investment group, Arizona Tech Investors (ATI), was just part of a ‘voluntary’ successful exit in our Arizona startup ecosystem that needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

It was voluntary – as investors were offered liquidity, and not required to sell – and some of us are staying in the deal (50/50 for yours truly).

Phoenix-based Virtuous Software offered an exit opportunity for early investors to take some chips off of the table at what on paper is a 10x return. But, au contraire, the return is actually 13.6x, the bump coming from inclusion of the Arizona Angel Tax Credit, which effectively lowered our cost basis by about 30%.

With a 5.4 year holding period, a 56% internal rate of return was achieved and it qualifies for 1202 QSBS tax treatment. In other words, invest in a local startup, receive the Arizona Angel Tax Credit, hold for five years to reach 1202 tax treatment – and achieve a healthy return.

I can’t tout the importance of the success story of Virtuous Software strongly enough and the impact on our startup community. Back in April 2019 when the company's CEO, Gabe Cooper, came to ATI, he already had his venture capital in place to lead his investment round. He did not need us as investors, but it was important to Gabe to include local angels, which we certainly appreciated.

Our various members (we are not a fund) committed $280,000 to Virtuous Software through an LLC. What I have witnessed since our initial investment is a founder that has shown intelligence, grit, determination, a fiduciary duty to his investors and above all, founder DNA. This combination of CEO attributes, and others, made Virtuous Software successful, as Gabe scaled his nonprofit customer relationship management startup, created jobs along the way, and ultimately fulfilled his commitment to investors.

To this, we at ATI (and I personally) say, “Thank you, Gabe Cooper.”

I have heard from other Angels and ecosystem people that the goal of Angel groups is to fund these startups. No – the goal of Angel investing is to achieve an adequate risk-adjusted return on our investment dollars. In essence, the end goal is to receive checks, not write them. Getting to exit and receiving an adequate rate of return must be the ultimate objective.

Without returns, all startup capital will evaporate. We are investors and not charity. In this respect, Gabe Cooper has completed the process (although there is more to build) and he has returned capital to his shareholders. This capital can be redeployed into the ecosystem to fund other startups. This is a critical step to getting the flywheel going.

As a startup, your job if you’ve received funding is to do the same. If you are a startup seeking funding, Gabe just made your job easier by fulfilling his fiduciary duty to his investors. When you see him, say, “Thank you”.

COLORADO CITY, AZ (AZFamily/AP) — Two Colorado City men who are followers of the polygamous FLDS sect have been convicted of multiple charges after a years-long conspiracy involving child sex abuse that prosecutors say spanned multiple states and victimized nearly a dozen children.

On Wednesday, a federal jury in Arizona found LaDell Jay Bistline, Jr., 45, guilty of child porn, sex trafficking young girls, and recruiting victims for the group’s leader, Samuel Bateman. His brother, Torrance Bistline, 36, was found guilty of child sex abuse.

Bateman agreed to a plea deal in April, and he’s scheduled to be sentenced later this month.

In his plea, Bateman, 48, acknowledged taking underage brides, having sex activity with them and arranging group sex, sometimes involving child brides. The agreement recommends a prison sentence of 20 to 50 years, though one of his convictions carries a possible maximum sentence of life.

Businessman Moroni Johnson of Colorado City pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of conspiring with Bateman to transport underage girls over state lines.

The FBI said Bateman had taken more than 20 wives, including 10 girls under the age of 18. Bateman is accused of giving wives as gifts to his male followers and claiming to do so on orders from the “Heavenly Father.”

Investigators say Bateman traveled extensively between Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Nebraska and had sex with minor girls on a regular basis.

Some of the sexual activity involving Bateman was recorded and transmitted across state lines via electronic devices.

The FBI said Bateman demanded that his followers confess publicly for any indiscretions and shared those confessions widely. He claimed the punishments, which ranged from a timeout to public shaming and sexual activity, came from the Lord, the federal law enforcement agency said.

Authorities said Johnson was pressured by Bateman to give up three of his wives as atonement because Johnson wasn’t treating Bateman as a prophet.

Authorities say Bateman created a sprawling network spanning at least four states as he tried to start an offshoot of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which historically has been based in the neighboring communities of Colorado City, Arizona, and Hildale, Utah.

He and his followers practice polygamy, a legacy of the early teachings of the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which abandoned the practice in 1890 and now strictly prohibits it.

Bateman and his followers believe polygamy brings exaltation in heaven.

The Arizona Department of Transportation’s tips for driving in extreme temperatures include:

In addition to an umbrella, take sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat and wear loose-fitting, light-colored cotton clothing.

: Keep your tank at three-quarters full. Running out of gas, especially in a remote location, is dangerous in extreme heat.

Take a cooler to keep extra drinking water cold, and consider adding several frozen bottles of water to use for cooling off or to thaw and drink if needed. Make sure everyone, including pets, stays hydrated.

If your vehicle breaks down in extreme heat, call for assistance right away to reduce wait time, and run the AC. If the AC isn’t working, roll down all windows.

If the temperature inside your vehicle becomes too hot, everyone, including pets, should exit carefully and seek out or create a shaded area as far away from the travel lanes as possible. Be careful walking on the road surface, which can be hot enough to burn skin. Keep your shoes on and try to keep your pets’ paws off the pavement. If you are stopped along the highway, raise the front hood and turn on hazard lights. Please keep in mind that parking in tall brush can start a fire.
