What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Clermont restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Clermont, FL, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Clermont, FL
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Did you know one of Central Florida’s first attractions was the Florida Citrus Tower in Clermont?
The Citrus Tower is an incredible monument commemorating Florida’s citrus industry and groves.
On a visit to the impressive Citrus Tower today, you can learn about Florida’s history, enjoy a citrus drink or coffee and a muffin or cookie, and see Central Florida from a totally different perspective.
The endless miles of groves are gone due to the growth and development in the area,
However, the 360-degree view when visitors step out of the elevator and onto the observation deck is hard to compete with. It’s something locals and visitors should put on their bucket list.
Over the years, there have been multiple changes in ownership.
Like many other Florida roadside attractions, the Citrus Tower struggled after the large theme parks started to surface in Central Florida.
It still takes a backseat to other places to visit in the general area, when it deserves to be at the top of those types of lists.
In fact, Lake County offers a lot of Old Florida experiences. It’s home to charming destinations like Mount Dora, Tavares, Leesburg, and, of course, Clermont.
History of the Citrus Tower
The Citrus Tower in Clermont was built in 1956 on one of the highest hills in Florida’s ridge section.
Conceptualized by Ralph Harper, he enlisted A.W. Thacker and F. J. Toole, and together they founded the Florida Towers Corporation.
It took the architectural design of Thomas A. Russell, close to 250 investors, and five million pounds of concrete to make the Citrus Tower a reality.
Initially, the tower was going to be 75 feet high. At completion, it was 226 feet tall (i.e., 22 stories). The tip of the highest antenna is 500 feet above sea level!
When the tower first opened, it had three observation levels. An extensive Florida state floral map was carved in the groves for many years and could be observed from the tower.
During its first year, the Citrus Tower attracted more than 500,000 visitors.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, when the Florida Citrus Tower opened, there were 522,700 acres of citrus groves in Florida.
Those groves produced 69% of the citrus in the United States and 64% of the total acreage in the United States.
In 1959, amphibious DUCK Boats (land and water tours) traveled around the groves and lakes.
In the early 1960’s Wometco Enterprises, who also owned the Miami Seaquarium, purchased the Tower.
By the 1970s, the tower’s base included a restaurant, gift shop, circus arcade, candy kitchen, citrus shop, U.S. post office, glass-blowing artists, and even a reptile show.
The Citrus Tower in 2024
In September 2022, a religious group took ownership of this historic monument and began renovating it to keep yesteryear’s nostalgic feel.
The Citrus Tower and the Citrus Tower commercial business center were sold to Simchat Torah Beit Midrash (STBM), led by Rabbi Ralph and Maureen Messer, for $3.3 million.
On May 28, 2023, the new owners reopened the Citrus Tower to visitors by holding a ribbon cutting.
The new owners have done a lot of renovations so far. However, they need help. They are doing a Go Fund Me campaign to cover the costs of replacing the roof and back area of the attraction that have suffered wear and tear over the years.
New Citrus Tower Lobby
When you first enter the Citrus Tower lobby, you’ll see and smell the pleasant aroma of the Citrus Tower Coffee Shop.
They have a variety of delicious citrus-themed drinks, coffee, and tea as well as various baked goods.
Citrus Tower Coffee Shop is located on the ground level of the Citrus Tower. Additionally, there are multiple comfortable lounging areas in the tower lobby for relaxing before you head up the tower.
If you’re a fan of Florida souvenirs, you’ll be happy to know they have some cool merchandise you may purchase.
When you’re ready to go to the top of the tower, you’ll be greeted by a hand-painted elevator mural featuring oranges.
From there, you’ll take your elevator ride up 22 stories to the observation deck. It takes about 40 seconds to reach the top.
Citrus Tower – Observation Deck
Because of the glass-enclosed observation deck, visitors can still enjoy a panoramic view of Central Florida.
In addition, you can see the rolling hills of Florida’s ridge section and lots of spring-fed lakes (try to ignore the traffic on the roads).
The observation deck includes signs of nearby sights and the distance from the tower.
Visitors are welcome to stay and observe the sights from the building without any time limits.
Citrus Tower – Ticket Information
Tickets to the top of the Citrus Tower are priced as follows:
TIP: Check Groupon first. They often offer day passes for a few dollars cheaper.
Hours:
The Citrus Tower Address: 141 North Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34711

Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) is proud to announce that its nursing graduates achieved an impressive 97.3% first-time pass rate on the 2024 National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), far surpassing both state and national averages.
This outstanding achievement solidifies LSSC’s commitment to preparing highly skilled nurses who are ready to serve Florida’s growing healthcare needs.
“At Lake-Sumter State College, we take immense pride in the rigorous education and hands-on training our nursing students receive,” said Dr. Laura Byrd, Interim President of Lake-Sumter State College. “Our excellent pass rates are truly a testament to our dedicated nursing faculty, academic support staff, community healthcare partners, and their unwavering commitment to student success. We are producing highly qualified nurses who are ready to make an immediate impact in hospitals and healthcare facilities locally and across Florida.”
The Florida Center for Nursing released the State of Nursing Education in Florida 2025 report that highlights the overall challenges in Florida’s nursing education, including a projected shortfall of 31,000 nurses by 2035.
While the state average for NCLEX first-time pass rates is improving toward the national average, LSSC’s nursing program stood out among Florida’s public institutions, ranking among the top performers alongside Seminole State College (98.1%) and the University of Central Florida (96.2%).
“Our evidence-based curriculum designed by our faculty members is at the core of our success,” says Dr. Christine Ramos, Associate Vice President of Health Professions. “This curriculum not only imparts essential knowledge but also equips students with the practical skills they need to thrive in their nursing careers. Our program fosters an engaging learning environment through innovative teaching methods, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, ensuring our students are well-prepared to conquer the challenges of the healthcare industry head-on.”
With the forecasted shortfall of nurses, LSSC has partnered with local hospital partners and community organizations to double student enrollment in the AS Nursing program over the last three years.
The College has developed dedicated education units (DEUs) at AdventHealth Waterman, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, and UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital. The DEU model places clinical experiences in a single hospital facility with specific nurses. This fosters connections between students and working healthcare professionals, who are getting comfortable with the skills necessary to be successful in the role.
As Florida faces a projected shortfall of 31,000 nurses by 2035, LSSC is playing a crucial role in addressing the state’s healthcare workforce crisis. The college’s commitment to high academic standards, faculty excellence, and clinical partnerships has contributed to its remarkable student outcomes.
“The value of the DEU model is that you take your classroom and simulation learning and apply it in a real-world setting with the support of your mentors,” says Dr. Ramos. “The students also get more comfortable with the hospital environment, the facility, and the culture so that their transition to a full-time position is faster and more seamless.”
LSSC’s nursing program continues to grow, thanks to strong community support and strategic investments in healthcare education. These include the Live Well Foundation of South Lake and the Charles & Mary McLin Foundation who supported an expansion of the nursing simulation lab experiences on the Leesburg and South Lake Campuses. The hospitals also provided gifts that were matched by the state’s Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) grant program.
“If you’re interested in a career in nursing or health professions, I encourage you to come check out what makes Lake-Sumter State College different,” says Dr. Ramos. “Communication, collaboration, and teamwork are the pillars of our nursing program. We are committed to nurturing their academic growth and personal development, making your journey a transformative experience.”
Lake-Sumter State College offers the following health professions programs: BS Nursing (RN-BSN), AS Health Services Administration, AS Medical Lab Technology, AS Nursing, and AS Respiratory Care.

CLERMONT — Call Harold and Kumar, White Castle is breaking ground in Clermont.
It's the second White Castle to open in Florida. Another will open soon in Kissimmee, too.
The company plans to open the "highly anticipated" White Castle in late summer 2025, according to a press release.
When did the first White Castle open?
In case you haven't visited a White Castle, it's the first fast-food hamburger chain in, well, the world, founded in 1921.
Billy Ingram launched the family-owned business with $700 and the idea of selling 5-cent, small, square hamburgers that are easy to eat in Wichita, Kansas. He invented the term "sliders" and sold them by the sack.
Why do people love White Castle?
White Castle's signature small square burgers, also known as sliders, are made with a unique steaming method that involves shaping patties with holes to absorb flavor, and they steam on a bed of onions on the grill for enhanced flavor.
Why aren't there more White Castles?
Its owners, the Ingram family, are historically against franchising.
Where did the first Castle open in Florida?
The largest free-standing White Castle in the world opened in southwest Orlando in 2021.
How big will it be? How many jobs?
The new 3,220-square-foot restaurant will include indoor and outdoor seating and two drive-thru lanes.
It is expected to create 75 new jobs.
And the Clermont White Castle will sport the chain's iconic tower "in a sleek, modern industrial-style architectural design," the company's press release said.
Where will it be located?
The Clermont White Castle will be located at 4551 Collina Terrace, Clermont, in the Plaza Collina development at State Road 50 and Plaza Collina Boulevard.
Brand leaders, ambassadors ("and a surprise guest or two") will welcome elected officials and development partners to celebrate a groundbreaking on April 9, according to the company's release.

Clermont location to open in late summer 2025
CLERMONT, Fla. – White Castle has announced it’s breaking ground in the hills of Clermont for its second Central Florida brick-and-mortar location.
In 2021, 100 years since its founding, the hamburger chain opened what’s billed as the largest free-standing White Castle in the world — as well as Florida’s only standalone White Castle at the time — right here in Orlando.
Over in Clermont, a 3,220-square-foot “sister property” to the Orlando joint is expected to feature modern architecture, indoor and outdoor seating, two drive-through lanes and the creation of 75 jobs.
The Clermont location is expected to open in late summer 2025, according to a news release. A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. April 9 in the Plaza Collina development along W. Colonial Drive, the release states.

News 6 previously learned from White Castle that sites for new restaurants were confirmed in Clermont and Kissimmee. Further, though White Castle has filed permits to build a “5,000 square foot quick service restaurant in the I-Drive district,” specifically off the Northeastern corner of Universal Boulevard and McKenna Drive — mere minutes away from Universal’s soon-to-be-completed Epic Universe — the brand did not confirm the I-Drive plans to News 6.
Elsewhere in Orlando, White Castle also operates a “Crave & Go” location — only offering pickup and delivery — at 11814 Glass House Lane.

A previous version of this story reported News 6 had previously confirmed plans for White Castles in Clermont and Kissimmee. This story has been updated to more clearly explain that while permits have been filed for another location in the I-Drive district, one separate from the two previously mentioned, the brand has not confirmed such plans to News 6.
