Even with rain in the forecast, there are plenty of Fourth of July activities to beckon big crowds to the Daytona Beach area, where the Independence Day holiday is one of the biggest tourist weekends of the year.
If you’re heading out to one of the area beaches from New Smyrna Beach to Palm Coast, or planning to catch one of the numerous community fireworks displays, here’s everything you need to know to enjoy the occasion:
What’s July 4th weather forecast for Daytona Beach, nearby areas?
Alas, rain is likely to be an unwelcome guest at the holiday festivities.
In Daytona Beach, high chances of showers and lightning storms are forecast daily, especially from Wednesday onward into the weekend. The greatest coverage is generally expected in the afternoons and evenings, with higher than normal chances also in the forecast for overnight periods, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
In Flagler County, showers and thunderstorms also are likely in the afternoon and evening hours, according to a Facebook post by Flagler County Emergency Management. The potential for severe thunderstorms also is high.
A moderate risk of rip currents also exists at all Atlantic beaches, including those in Volusia and Flagler, according to the National Weather Service.
Where are the biggest fireworks displays in Daytona Beach, Flagler?
Here’s a quick rundown of where to find fireworks at community celebrations:
Expect beaches to be crowded from New Smyrna Beach to Flagler
Fourth of July is one of the biggest beach days in Volusia County, a trend that’s not expected to change this year, said Tammy Malphurs, director Volusia County Beach Safety.
“Some of it is weather-dependent, but for sure, we’re expecting to see very large crowds,” Malphurs said. “It’s all hands on deck for us.”
Among key reminders for beachgoers is that use of fireworks by the public of any kind is strictly prohibited on Volusia County beaches, including on the Fourth of July, Malphurs said.
It’s recommended that beachgoers download the Volusia Beaches app to access real-time information on weather and tide conditions, open beach entry points, staffed lifeguard towers, restroom locations and safety regulations.
Low tide on Friday, July 4, is forecast for 9:40 a.m. in Daytona Beach Shores, which bodes well for beach access points to be open early, Malphurs said.
“We urge people to get to the beach first thing in the morning for easy parking and access,” she said. “We expect our off-beach parking to be at capacity early on Friday.”
Beach visitors also are advised to swim in front of staffed lifeguard towers, especially considering the moderate risk for rip currents through the weekend, Malphurs said.
It’s also important to take shelter in a building or vehicle if lightning is in the area.
“Under a pop-up tent is not a safe place to be in a lightning storm,” Malphurs said. “We’re proactive in monitoring these storms and we will clear people off the beach.”
Volusia Sheriff’s Office handles law enforcement issues on the beaches. Phone and text messages to VSO spokesman Andrew Gant weren’t returned.

The Fourth of July is a federal holiday, and that means non-essential federal offices, stock markets and most banks will be closed and there will be no U.S. mail delivery, although other delivery services such as UPS and FedEx will be available. TAMPA – Millions of people are set to travel this week as the U.S. gets set to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, but beach plans may need to be put on hold for those heading to Florida as flooding rain and thunderstorms are set to threaten outdoor plans this week.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said a frontal boundary is expected to stall and weaken off the Southeast coast this week, and an area of low pressure could then form and develop tropical or subtropical characteristics off the Southeast U.S. coast, over Florida or in the eastern Gulf.
Right now, the NHC is saying there is a low chance of development over the next week.
Regardless of tropical development, it’s not going to be the best week weather-wise in the Sunshine State.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, several inches of rain could fall across the Southeast this week, especially in Florida.
Coastal areas from the eastern Florida Panhandle southward through the Big Bend and into the Sarasota area will likely see the highest rain totals this week. Parts of Florida's Big Bend from about the Perry area through Cedar Key and the Tampa and St. Petersburg areas could see upwards of 5-8 inches of rain, with some locally higher amounts.
Heavy rain is also expected along the Atlantic coast of Florida from south of Jacksonville through Daytona Beach, as well as in communities along the Space Coast from Cocoa Beach to Melbourne.
Orlando is also likely going to pick up a few inches of rain this week.

District officials said they were able to show "substantial improvements" in 10 of the 12 areas of accountability, while none of the schools fell below proficiency, or a C.
"This A is more than a measure of academic success. It is a reflection of a district and a community that chose to come together − with purpose and with heart − to ignite a passion for learning in all students," Carmen Balgobin, Volusia County Schools' superintendent, said in a prepared statement.
The highest-overall ranked high school was Seabreeze in Daytona Beach. Still, Volusia performed well overall, with six out of the nine traditional high schools performing above the state average.
Mainland, also in Daytona Beach, earned its first-ever A, while Taylor Middle-High School in Pierson achieved its first-ever B.
The report also included a 'College and Career Readiness’ category, which was calculated based on the percentage of graduates who earned a passing score in an AP, IB or AICE exam or a passing grade in a dual-enrollment course.
Deltona High School ranked the highest while also maintaining a 100% graduation rate. For the 2025 grades, FDOE uses graduation rates from the Class of 2024.
Flagler County School District earned a B, with Matanzas High School performing above Florida's average.
DeSantis: 'A really big deal'
Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference in Jacksonville on July 7 to discuss the grades and Florida's progress on education.
"I'm happy to announce that Florida schools earned improved grades across all school types, including 71% of all graded schools are now earning either an A or a B grade," DeSantis said. "That's a really big deal. This exceeds our performance last year, in which 64% of schools earned an A or B grade."
The Florida Department of Education highlighted several other metrics, including:
High school performance in Volusia County seems to be rebounding from lows in 2016, as well as the pandemic.
All of Volusia's high schools earned either As or Bs; no Volusia schools scored lower than a C.
Of the traditional high schools, six earned As: Deltona, DeLand, Mainland, Spruce Creek, Seabreeze and University.
Also, Volusia Online Learning maintained its A.
Just one of the middle schools earned an A: Creekside Middle School in Port Orange. Eight were Bs and three had Cs.
And of the elementaries, 21 earned As, including Starke in DeLand, which leapt from a D in 2024. Eleven elementary schools earned Bs, while 13 came in with Cs.
One Flagler school drops a letter grade
Of Flagler schools, all were As or Bs, with the exception of Buddy Taylor Middle, which dropped from a B in 2024 to a C in 2025. Matanzas High earned an A, while Flagler-Palm Coast High ended with a B.
Charter schools offer mixed results
Among charter schools in the Volusia-Flagler area, Samsula Academy and Imagine School at Town Center in Palm Coast dropped from B to a C.
Meanwhile, Ivy Hawn Charter School of the Arts in Lake Helen rose from B to A. Burns Science and Technology Charter School maintained its A, while The Reading Edge Academy remained a C.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will potentially carry Starlink internet-beaming satellites into low-Earth orbit, a Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory shows.
Rockets here launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center or nearby Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
Weather permitting and depending on cloud cover, a rocket launch from Florida’s Space Coast could be visible as far north as Jacksonville Beach and Daytona Beach to as far south as Vero Beach and West Palm Beach.
When there’s a launch window in the middle of the night or very early morning, there’s an opportunity for unique photos — the rocket lights up the dark sky and the contrail after makes for a great photo.

Where to see Florida rocket launch in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach area
In Volusia County, immediately north of Brevard County — home to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station — you can get a great view of a SpaceX, NASA or United Launch Alliance rocket launch. The best views to watch a rocket launch from here is along the beach. Look due south. Recommended spots:
• Mary McLeod Bethune Beach Park, 6656 S. Atlantic Ave., New Smyrna Beach. Bethune Beach is 3.5 miles south of New Smyrna Beach and one mile north of the Apollo Beach entrance to Canaveral National Seashore Park.
• Apollo Beach at Canaveral National Seashore (south of New Smyrna Beach). Canaveral National Seashore runs along Florida's East Coast in Volusia County and Brevard County. To access Apollo Beach, take Interstate 95 to exit 249, then travel east until it turns into State Road A1A. Follow SR A1A south to the park entrance.
• Oak Hill riverfront is the southernmost city in South Volusia County.
