What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Panama City Beach restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Panama City Beach, FL, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Panama City Beach, FL
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Florida’s Panhandle has quite the reputation for providing some of the country’s best vacation spots. From 30A’s many quaint communities to the popularity of spots like Destin, Panama City Beach, and Pensacola, this stretch of Gulf-front land always delivers heavy doses of summertime nostalgia. The sparking blue-green Gulf and white sand beaches are the area’s biggest draws, but one of its loveliest and most underrated destinations doesn’t rely on either.
In Apalachicola, a charming bayfront town perched on the Panhandle’s southernmost point, historic charm and world-renowned seafood are the main draws. Of course, the beach is easily accessible via a quick 20-minute drive across the Apalachicola Bay to St. George Island. If you’re looking to shake up your waterfront vacation routine, consider this quiet community that also offers some unexpected tricks up its sleeve. Here are the 12 best things to do in Apalachicola, Florida
What To Do In Apalachicola, Florida
You can’t go on vacation without engaging in a little retail therapy, and Apalachicola’s downtown offers plenty of opportunities to exercise your credit card and support local business owners. Downtown Books & Purl offers two unique shops (selling both books and yarn) in one storefront. You can find resort wear and more outdoor-centric goods at Apalach Outfitters. For coastal cool apparel, home goods, and gifts, visit Becasa, and find more whimsical goods at Bee Inspired Too. Don’t leave without stopping into Apalachicola Bee Company to sample and purchase the area’s world-famous Florida tupelo honey
Apalachicola is one of the Sunshine State’s most historic cities, having been officially named in 1831. Its once-rich timber and cotton shipping industries gave the town a big boom during the mid 19th century, and the resulting ornate Victorian homes and grand architecture are stunning vestiges of that time. Take a self-guided tour through downtown to see the 900-plus historic homes and buildings, or visit in May and buy tickets to the annual Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour put on by Trinity Episcopal Church.
Apalachicola is located at the convergence of the Apalachicola Bay and the Apalachicola River, so water is more than a way of life for locals. If you want the full Apalachicola experience, you’ll need to leave dry land and choose a water vessel. Kayak on the Apalachicola River Paddling Tral System, a series of 11 canoe and kayak trials that run for nearly 100 miles through the Apalachicola River and its surrounding swamps. If you want to explore the marshland without doing any heavy lifting (or rowing), opt for an airboat tour with Apalachicola Airboat Adventures. If you’d like to try your rod at catching the area’s famous seafood, book a charter with Captain Jared at Apalach Anglers. A 4-hour inshore fishing charter will have you cruising the bay on the hunt for redfish, speckled trout, flounder, tripletail, black drum, pompano, Spanish mackerel, and more.
If saltwater surf and crashing waves are calling your name, head across the St. George Island Bridge to St. George Island, where you can spend as much time as you please soaking in a glorious Gulf coast beach day. There are 22 miles of white-sand beaches to explore, as well as a vibrant community complete with flip-flop friendly eateries, picturesque bike paths, and a historic lighthouse.
There’s always more to discover when it comes to Apalachicola’s rich history. Several sites across town offer a glimpse into the town’s past. Start at Orman House Historic State Park, a grand antebellum home and its adjoining botanical gardens overlooking the Apalachicola River that was built in 1838. Another state-owned property, the John Gorrie State Museum tells the fascinating story of John Gorrie, a young doctor who helped pioneer modern air conditioning and refrigeration with his invention of a mechanical ice maker in 1841. To learn more about Apalachicola during antebellum times, stop into the free Raney House Museum, run by the Apalachicola Area Historical Society.
Where To Eat In Apalachicola, Florida
You can expect any coastal town to offer great options for fresh seafood, but Apalachicola’s eateries really go above and beyond with everything from fish to shrimp to oysters all caught just off its shores in the Gulf or Apalachicola Bay. The open-air deck at Up the Creek Raw Bar is the spot for raw oysters (the Baltic version also features caviar and creamy horseradish sauce for an ultra-indulgent addition), seafood baskets, and even fried Florida alligator. Locals love hopping over to The Station Raw Bar, located in a converted service station in the heart of downtown, for live music and a convivial sports bar atmosphere. You’ll find nearly every Gulf seafood from bay scallops to clam strips on the menu. Be sure start your meal with an order of smoked fish dip and a dozen oysters (or more) on the half-shell. It’s all in the name at Hole in the Wall, a family-owned restaurant and raw bar housed in a green clapboard house. Inside the walls are covered in hats, and the seafood is as fresh as it comes; the restaurant’s own commercial fishing fleet brings it in daily.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch are all on the table at this iconic restaurant inside The Gibson Inn. Mornings bring scratch-made biscuits and Southern fried chicken and waffles served with spicey Tupelo honey butter. At lunch, simple options like burgers and seafood po’boys reign. Expect a more upscale experience at dinner, when the kitchen serves up elegant dishes like Crab-Stuffed Baked Flounder and Apple Cider-Brined Pork Tenderloin. Choose a seat on the idyllic wraparound porch or sit in the main dining room in the company of oyster quartz tabletops, palm-printed wallpaper, and original hard pine floors.

Watch the sky erupt into a million colors as you treat yourself to dinner at Half Shell Dockside, a waterfront eatery located on Scipio Creek Marina. The expansive back deck offers incredible views of the river, and a varied menu means you can choose to have anything from a 16-ounce ribeye steak to a whole fried flounder for dinner. Though the kitchen stops taking order at 9:30 p.m., the bar stays rocking and rolling until 12 a.m., so you’re welcome to sit and stay for a spell.

gibsoninn.com; 51 Avenue C, Apalachicola, FL 32320; 850-270-2190
Another historic home turned charming inn, The Majestic Jewel of Apalachicola was built in 1908 as a family home for the Flatauers. It later became a bank, then an insurance agency, and was converted into an inn in 2017. Located in the center of downtown Apalachicola near all the shops, restaurants, galleries, and life, the inn’s five suites and studio apartment are the perfect place to set up home base.

PANAMA CITY BEACH — Bay District Schools has announced that Hutchison Elementary School has achieved Legacy status through the "Leader in Me" program.
This status has been attained by 21 schools worldwide and only three schools in Florida.
The Leader In Me program is a whole-school transformation model and process developed by Franklin Covey.
According to a BDS press release, the program is rooted in teaching students leadership and life skills. More than 6,000 schools implement the program.
“The road to Legacy Status is rigorous and requires documented, sustained excellence in leadership, culture, and academic performance,” the release says. “Schools must demonstrate deep and lasting implementation of the 7 Habits, robust student leadership systems, and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement.”
Although 6,000 schools implement the program, only 655 achieve Lighthouse status and only 21 schools have achieved Legacy status, which is he highest honor available.
“This achievement is a reflection of years of dedication and belief in the leadership potential of every student,” the principal of Hutchison Beach Elementary, Glenda Nouskhajian, said in the release. “Our students have taken ownership of their education, led powerful initiatives, and created a culture of empowerment and excellence. This recognition is for them — and because of them.”
“This distinction shines a global spotlight on the transformational work happening in our schools. It reflects the dedication of an entire school community — students, teachers, and families — working together to grow confident, capable leaders. It’s another example of how we’re putting the ‘A’ back in the Bay,” Superintendent Mark McQueen said in the release.

PANAMA CITY — Amazon and the Bay Economic Development Alliance have confirmed that a new Amazon delivery station has opened at 7801 Commerce Blvd.
In December, the News Herald reported that a delivery station was planned. Now, according to an alliance news release issued April 28, the 60,000-square-foot facility has opened.
The center is inside a former FedEx ground facility off Highway 231 in the Intermodal Distribution Center, which is owned by the Panama City Port Authority.
Amazon also opened a delivery station in Hillsborough County, and another in Lake Placid is planned, according to the news release. Combined, the facilities are expected to create more than 100 full- and part-time jobs, in addition to more than 100 new driver opportunities.
”Since 2010, Amazon has created more than 55,000 full- and part-time jobs in Florida and invested more than $36 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation to our employees,” the release says. “These investments have contributed an additional $38 billion to the Florida’s economy and have helped create more than 82,800 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires — from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services.”
Amazon delivery stations provide "last mile" service to get orders delivered.
"We're excited to expand our footprint with a new delivery station in Panama City, strengthening Amazon's presence in the Panhandle," Steven Burchett, site lead at Amazon's delivery station in Panama City, said in the release. "Having lived in the area for four years now, I've witnessed remarkable growth in this community, and I'm thrilled that Amazon will be part of that continued development.”
“We are thrilled that Amazon has chosen Panama City for one of its new delivery stations,” Becca Hardin, president/CEO of the Bay County Economic Development Alliance, said in the release. “We were fortunate that we had an available 60,000-square-foot facility in one of our premier industrial parks. This existing facility will enhance Amazon’s delivery speeds for customers in Northwest Florida. The creation of new jobs will have a major impact on our local economy.”
It's only 3 years old, but this Panama City Beach hotel has secured a prestigious award.
