What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Atlanta restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Atlanta, GA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

ATLANTA, GA — The Easter bunny may stop in Atlanta this year as Georgia's capital has been named the fifth Best Place to Celebrate Easter.

An entertainment hub, Atlanta is known for its historic attractions and bustling movie and TV industry; but, WalletHub experts say the southern town ranks among the greatest out of 100 cities for Easter observances.

“The best cities for Easter cater to the religious nature of the holiday by offering plenty of opportunities for Christians to attend services, and they also provide the resources for people to have a great time with their family regardless of religious affiliation," WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said in a news release. "That means lots of places to get some sweet treats or dine out, as well as good weather conditions and nice open spaces for Easter egg hunts.”

Measures such as weather and traditions were considered when selecting the top-notch towns for Easter celebrations.

Overall, Atlanta scored 55.69 with rankings in the following categories: observers (25), traditions (five), kids' Easter (88) and Easter weather (37).

Birmingham, Alabama (No. 1) was undefeated on the national list followed by: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (No. 2); Buffalo, New York (No. 3); and Orlando, Florida (No. 4).

The worst towns were Hialeah, Florida (No. 100); Aurora, Colorado (No. 99); Garland, Texas (No. 98); Lincoln, Nebraska (No. 97); and Arlington, Texas (No. 96).

Easter is traditionally observed as a Christian holiday to mark the end of Lent, a 40-day fast and penance. Holy Week ushers in Easter, which includes Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

Good Friday marks the day Jesus Christ was crucified, and Holy Saturday stamps the transition between crucifixion and resurrection.

In Atlanta, church services, brunches and egg hunts are part of Easter celebrations. This year, Easter will be observed on Sunday, April 20.

The Children's Museum of Atlanta planned to kick off its celebration with 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. story times on Sunday.

Stone Mountain Park will commemorate Easter with two sunrise services featuring Bryant Wright and Crawford Loritts, who will give their messages Sunday from the mountaintop.

The City of Marietta’s Parks and Recreation Department will host the Bunny Brunch from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Custer Park Sports and Fitness Center, 545 Kenneth E. Marcus Way. Ticket prices range.

More than 90,000 eggs will fall from a helicopter onto Sprayberry High School's football fields at the Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop. The event will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sprayberry is located at 2525 Sandy Plains Road.

Other community egg hunts will be hosted in Marietta, Brookhaven, Canton, Alpharetta, Dallas, Norcross, Grayson, Lilburn and Decatur.

GEORGIA — The deadline for Georgia travelers to get a REAL ID is next month, and time and opportunity to get one is running out.

Starting on May 7, residents will need a REAL ID to board domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings, if they don't have a passport or other approved form of identification.

"The REAL ID deadline is fast approaching, please ensure that your state IDs are compliant," Georgia emergency management officials said Tuesday.

The Georgia Department of Driver Services said the Peach State was 99.9 percent compliant as of late March. At the time, the DDS said new drivers and anyone relocating to Georgia needed to secure a Real ID.

Here's what you need to know in Georgia:

Find out what's happening in Atlantafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Georgia residents who are age 18 and older must show a REAL ID, a passport or other federally-approved identification to board domestic flights or enter certain federal buildings when enforcement begins on May 7.

The REAL ID is similar to a regular state identification card or driver's license, but has a small gold or black star in the upper right hand corner.

Federal agencies, including the TSA, will begin REAL ID enforcement on May 7. Agencies may choose to phase in enforcement, but TSA officials have been urging people to upgrade their licenses sooner rather than later "to facilitate a smooth transition."

The REAL ID Act of 2005 does not affect those who only need their ID for driving purposes or identification and does not apply to those younger than age 18.

A passport or valid U.S. passport card can still be used to fly domestically and internationally.

REAL ID cards are issued at driver’s licensing stations in Georgia. In general, those seeking them need to provide documentation showing their legal name, date of birth, Social Security number or proof of lawful status to be in the United States and two proofs of the address of their principal residence.

Acceptable REAL ID documents are as follows, according to driver services:

An ID in Georgia costs $32 and expires after eight years.

While Georgia requires residents seeking a REAL ID to visit their local customer service centers, applicants can pre-apply online with the Georgia Department of Driver Services.

GEORGIA — Two of the best new hotels in the world are in Georgia, according to a report by Esquire.

Some 6,000 hotel projects were in the works by the end of 2024, a record high, with another 10,000 announced, according to the New York City-based international men’s magazine. The boom in hotel and resort building comes as travel to popular tourist destinations rebounds after flat-lining during the pandemic, Esquire said.

Hotels from Georgia on Esquire’s Best New Hotels in the World 2025 are:

Forth Hotel, Atlanta: Luke Guillory noted Forth Hotel’s well-rounded scene in Atlanta’s Historic Fourth Ward. The Rankin Street Northeast hotel features a gym, spa, fitness classes and a rooftop bar. According to its website, Forth is available for weddings, private events and group dining. Rooms starts at $345.

Hotel Bardo, Savannah: Hotel Bardo, with 149 new rooms, sits along Savannah’s Forsyth Park, Joshua David Stein wrote. The redbrick Victorian mansion features an outdoor pool, an Italian restaurant, a wellness spa and daily boot camps. According to its website, Club Bardo is the Drayton Street hotel’s effort to establish community. Rooms start at $450.

Esquire created the list after its editors and trusted contributors traveled across the globe to explore the latest trends in new properties. They experienced health and wellness spas in Dubai, tried longevity-enhancing treatments in London, and engaged in adventurous activities like kayaking with dolphins in South Carolina and hiking in Wyoming until their legs were sore.

“Great hotels don’t just cater to your daily needs. They’re oases of comfort in foreign lands and gateways to dazzling new cultures,” Esquire’s Madison Vain wrote. “They offer the chance to experience the kindness of people who look and sound nothing like you, while restoring you for your life back home. The very best hotels won’t just make your vacation. They can change the way you see the world.”

More Georgia Rankings:

The list includes the Hotel of the Year, the Populus in Denver, Colorado, where nothing about the environmentally friendly design is accidental. Even constellations of tiny dots painted on the arched oval windows are intentional, a signal to let birds know they are approaching a pane of glass, according to Esquire.

Other U.S. hotels recognized by the magazine are:

California

Florida

Maine

New Jersey

New York

North Carolina

Oregon

Pennsylvania

South Carolina

Texas

Vermont

Wyoming

The elite list also includes hotels in Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom; Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America; and the Middle East and Asia.
