The Commissioner will host the Annual Senior Summit 2025 Lunch & Learn Seminar on Wednesday, May 28. Seniors are invited to join the Commissioner from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center located at 2000 Convention Center Concourse College Park, GA. 30337.
The doors open at 9 a.m. for registration and breakfast. It will be a day that promises to address the unique challenges faced by individuals aged 65 and older within Fulton County.
In partnership with the Fulton County Senior Services Department, this year’s Summit will feature Fulton Chief Probate Judge Kenya Johnson, Atlanta Legal Aid, Georgia Council on Aging, Crimes Against the Disabled and Elderly Task Force (CADE), and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The AARP Foundation will also be on-site ready to assist those looking for work. Interested seniors are encouraged to bring updated resumes.

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Residents in a condemned College Park apartment complex are figuring out where to go next after they say they weren’t given enough notice to move out.
“My apartment flooded and it had at least a feet of feces,” said Georgia Thomas, who has lived in the complex for 13 years.
Unsanitary conditions are just part of a long list of complaints the City of College Park’s code enforcement used to condemn the Chelsea Gardens apartments.
“It was what it was. It was a home. It was a place to lay my head down and I had a door to close every night,” said Cassandra Meenaghan, who has lived in the complex for three years.
“The city has no role in evictions. What the city has done and one of the things that we’re really working to do is to clean up the properties,” said Antoinette Govan, the communications director for the city.
Residents say they didn’t get enough warning.
“I got the letter that I have seven days to move,” said Thomas.
“There are veterans, there are elderly, there are autistic people, there are people who haven’t been lucky enough to find somewhere to go because all of this has just happened so fast,” said Meenaghan.
The city has now extended the vacate date to June 1.
“We want to make sure that they have the proper time to find new places to stay,” said Govan.
But residents say that’s still a tight turnaround to find somewhere, pack, put down a deposit and move.
“I was looking for a place and I couldn’t find nothing. You know, they got this thing now where you pay three times the rent,” said Thomas.
The spokesperson for the city says the new owner of the complex is trying to assist.
“They are offering storage at a U-Haul facility that is near the property, and some of the tenants have been relocated to other apartments in the city and the surrounding areas,” said Govan.
But residents say they’ve had trouble contacting the new owner.
“Where am I going to go? What am I going to do?” asked Meenaghan.
Atlanta News First tried calling the leasing office but the number is disconnected and the apartment’s website has been taken down. Atlanta News First’s Madeline Montgomery called every number associated with the owner but has not heard back.
