What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Newnan restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Newnan, GA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Newnan, GA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

NEWNAN, Ga. — Three tornadoes have been confirmed from Tuesday afternoon's storms in north Georgia. Two separate EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Carroll County with winds of 75 mph and 85 mph. There was also an EF-1 tornado that touched down in Coweta County Tuesday with winds of 90 mph.

11Alive's Gilat Melamed was on the ground in Coweta and Carroll counties as National Weather Service Meteorologist in Charge Keith Stellman surveyed the damage. There were multiple trees snapped and uprooted along the paths of the twisters.

The first EF-0 tornado in Carroll county touched at 2:22 p.m. down near Bowdon. The tornado touched down along Saxon road, uprooting trees along its 1.61 mile path. The tornado lifted after passing Reeseville Road. The tornado had maximum winds of 75 mph.

The second EF-0 in Carroll county was southeast of the initial twister. It touched down at 2:29 p.m. west of Roopville near Roopville-Veal Road and Whitehead Road. It snapped and uprooted several trees along its path. There was also a barn with a metal roof that was torn off and tossed 100 yards away, along with a shed roof torn off near Stoney Point Road. The tornado lifted before reaching Gum Creek Road. This tornado was the stronger of the two in Carroll county, with winds of 85 mph. It was on the ground for 2.6 miles.

In Coweta County, an EF-1 was on the ground for 2.65 miles with 90 mph winds. The tornado first touched down on the north side of Newnan, near Riva Ridge Lane and Calumet Parkway, where tree limbs were snapped and branches were broken. The tornado continued northeast into an industrial area near Niagra Way, where it reached its maximum intensity. Trees were napped and there was siding and roof damage to a warehouse building along Dart Road. The tornado continued east, weakening as it crossed over I-85 near International Parkway. It lifted before reaching White Oak.

Although a more highly populated area than in Carroll county, this tornado largely moved through a non-residential region of Newnan.

"We got lucky that it came through a largely industrial area," Stellman said.

Tuesday's three tornadoes takes the total count for the month of May to 13 across the 11Alive viewing area, which encompasses all of north Georgia and parts of eastern Alabama. If you're thinking that's a lot -- you're not wrong. It's more than the other four months of the year combined!

Based on record-keeping dating back to 1950, it's also the most confirmed tornadoes for the area in the month of May.

The second most May tornadoes was 1984. That year 10 tornadoes touched down, three of which were F-2 in Cleburne county, Alabama (the EF scale hadn't been introduced yet).

Severe weather in Georgia can happen any time of year. Our "peak" of tornado season, historically, is from March through May. From 1950 to 2024, there were 224 tornadoes in the state during the month of May. The month of March brought 348 tornadoes in that time span. April is statistically the busiest month for tornadoes in the state, with 455 from 1950 to 2024.

Credit: WXIA

Severe weather has not been equal across all parts of the state this year. Some counties have been more heavily-impacted than others.

Just in the last week, four separate tornadoes have hit Gordon County.

RELATED: 4 tornadoes in 6 days hit this Georgia county

The map below shows tornadoes per county in 2025. Some tornadoes impacted multiple counties along their paths. What is notable is that there is a "hot spot" with higher tornado activity just south of Atlanta and near/south of the I-20 corridor. Carroll, Spalding and Henry counties have all had three tornadoes affect their residents in 2025 alone.

Credit: WXIA

"We're still in the heart of tornado season, tornado season here in Georgia runs November through May and that's when we can still see the possibility for tornadoes," Stellman said. "It’s a little more unusual to see them this late in May, but its not totally uncommon and we can get them this time of year."

He said thankfully the tornadoes have been on the lower end of the scale.

With more storms likely in the warmer months ahead, it's always a good idea to remember severe weather safety.

One of Newnan’s oldest and most storied homes has earned statewide recognition for its restoration.

The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation presented an Excellence in Rehabilitation Award to the historic Henderson-Orr House at its 48th annual Preservation Awards ceremony held April 26 in Brunswick.

The award recognizes projects that make compatible use of a historic structure while preserving its architectural and cultural value.

Built in 1828 and designed by architect Collin Rogers, the Henderson-Orr House is a rare example of early classical revival architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the home still features its original ionic capitals, pedimented portico, fanlights, trim and mantels.

The property is also remembered as a site for the former Powers Crossroads Country Fair, adding cultural value to its historical significance.

Over the years, the home had suffered extensive deterioration. Termites had destroyed much of the front walls and sills, the portico columns had rotted, and both the balcony and pediment were close to collapse.

Owners Bob and Georgia Shapiro undertook a meticulous rehabilitation effort to save the home. Using documentation from the Historic American Buildings Survey and local craftsmen, they repaired the roof with standing seam metal, restored the original floors, and reconstructed an enclosed porch on the south side in a historically appropriate style.

According to the Georgia Trust, the project not only preserved a significant piece of Georgia’s architectural heritage but also revived a local landmark beloved by generations.

The Henderson-Orr House was one of 10 projects across the state to receive an Excellence in Rehabilitation Award this year.

Founded in 1973, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and revitalizing Georgia’s historic resources. The Trust advocates for heritage protection, offers educational programs, and manages two historic house museums.

Newnan, GA (April 30, 2025) – A serious crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle took place Wednesday in Coweta County, resulting in significant injuries and a complete closure of the roadway. The collision occurred at the intersection of Andrew Bailey Rd and Barrington Farms Dr, according to local scanner reports.

Authorities responded to the scene and confirmed that the incident involved a motorcycle and at least one passenger vehicle. Emergency responders worked urgently to provide aid to the injured. The nature of the injuries has been described as serious, though specific medical conditions have not been released at this time.

Due to the severity of the crash and the need to investigate, officials closed Andrew Bailey Road in both directions. Drivers were advised to avoid the area as crews worked to assess the scene, assist victims, and clear the wreckage.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. At this time, the identities of those involved have not been made public.

Our thoughts are with the individuals injured in this crash, and we hope for their full recovery.

Motorcycle Collisions and Injury Risks in Georgia

Motorcycle accidents often lead to more severe injuries than other types of collisions due to the lack of physical protection for riders. In Georgia, motorcyclists face unique dangers on suburban roads like Andrew Bailey Rd, where speed limits may be moderate but visibility and right-of-way conflicts can still pose serious risks.

Crashes at intersections—especially those involving left turns or sudden entries—are a leading cause of motorcycle-related injuries. Drivers of larger vehicles may misjudge the speed or presence of a motorcycle, resulting in catastrophic outcomes when contact is made.

For injured riders, recovery often includes long-term rehabilitation, major medical expenses, and challenges with returning to work. In many cases, the aftermath of such a crash involves navigating both health care systems and insurance claims, making early documentation and legal guidance crucial.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to wear protective gear at all times, remain alert at intersections, and take defensive action when riding in mixed traffic environments.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a motorcycle crash, reach out to Local Accident Reports for assistance.
