What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Chicago restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Chicago, IL, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Chicago, IL

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Petals from the Sky: Shri Hanuman Mahotsav 2025 Promises Divine Bliss

Chicago, IL: In a vibrant celebration of faith, culture, and community, Hari Om Mandir in Medinah, Illinois, hosted the Shri Hanuman Mahotsav on May 31, 2025, transforming the temple grounds into a radiant hub of devotion and festivity. Drawing over 900 devotees from the Chicagoland area, the event was a testament to the enduring spiritual legacy of the Hindu Society of Metropolitan Chicago. From sacred rituals to mesmerizing cultural performances, the Mahotsav wove together tradition and innovation, leaving attendees inspired and deeply connected to their heritage.

The day commenced at 9:00 AM with a hearty breakfast, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the spiritual journey ahead. By 10:00 AM, the air was thick with reverence as approximately 50 families participated in the Sapt Kundiya Havan, a sacred Vedic fire ceremony. The rhythmic chants and the rising flames created a serene ambiance, invoking divine blessings and fostering a sense of unity among participants. This ancient ritual, meticulously organized under the guidance of Acharya Vajpayee Ji, was a powerful reminder of the community’s deep-rooted spiritual traditions.

At 11:00 AM, the atmosphere shifted into the huge Tent / Pandal set up with ample seating arrangement – Sponsored by Roshan Patel. The program began with the Hanuman Yatra and Pujya Ajay Yagnik Ji, a renowned spiritual orator and singer from India, led the Sunderkand Path. His soulful recitation of the Ramayana’s Sunderkand captivated the audience, weaving tales of Lord Hanuman’s devotion and strength. Yagnik Ji’s speech, a highlight of the event, resonated profoundly with attendees. He emphasized the timeless virtues of courage, loyalty, and selflessness embodied by Hanuman, urging the community to embrace these values in their daily lives. “Hanuman Ji teaches us that true strength lies in unwavering devotion and service,” Yagnik Ji proclaimed, his words sparking introspection and inspiration. He called for a collective commitment to fostering unity and cultural pride, a message that echoed through the temple grounds and left a lasting impact.

The spiritual fervour peaked at 12:30 PM with the Samuhik Hanuman Chalisa, a collective chanting session led by the temple’s talented children of Hari Om Gurukul. Their youthful voices, filled with devotion, reverberated through the crowd, creating a heartwarming moment of inter-generational connection. Parents and elders watched with pride as the younger generation embraced their cultural and spiritual heritage, a testament to Hari Om Mandir’s commitment to nurturing future stewards of tradition.

A breathtaking highlight followed as flower petals cascaded from a helicopter – Sponsored by SUGA Builders, onto the towering idol of Lord Hanuman at the heart of the temple grounds. This innovative and awe-inspiring gesture, a first for the Mahotsav, left attendees spellbound. The vibrant shower of petals symbolized divine blessings, transforming the moment into a visual and spiritual spectacle that underscored the event’s creative flair. The use of modern technology to enhance a traditional ritual showcased the temple’s ability to blend heritage with innovation, making the Mahotsav a truly memorable experience.

The festivities continued with a vibrant cultural program from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, featuring devotional performances by children and community members. Dressed in traditional attire in vibrant shades of red, yellow, and orange colours honouring Lord Hanuman—the performers brought to life the spirit of Indian culture through music, dance, and storytelling. The audience was actively engaged, clapping and singing along, their enthusiasm reflecting the event’s inclusive and participatory spirit. These performances not only entertained but also served as a platform for the younger generation to connect with their roots, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

Culinary delights added to the festive atmosphere, with authentic Indian cuisine provided by partners such as India House, Star Foods, Shimla Peppers, Cuisine of India, Haldiram’s, Shree Catering, Temptinn. The lunch, served after the cultural program, was a feast of flavors that brought the community together in shared enjoyment. Vivek Flowers’ divine decorations, featuring intricate floral arrangements, enhanced the temple’s aesthetic appeal, creating a visually stunning backdrop for the day’s events.

The Mahotsav’s success was a result of meticulous planning by Chairman Brij Sharma, President Vipan Wadhera, Acharya Vajpayee Ji, and Anurag Awasthi. Their leadership ensured a seamless blend of spirituality, culture, and community engagement. The event also featured practical innovations, such as ample parking at Lake Park High School and a QR code for easy registration, making participation accessible and convenient. Attendees were gifted idols of Hanuman Ji as tokens of blessings, a thoughtful gesture that deepened the event’s emotional impact.

President, Vipan Wadhera thanked ALL the Volunteers who spent countless hours in setting up the Stage Decorations, Hanuman Ji Flags which added to the grandeur of the Mahotsav. He also expressed gratitude to the media personnel, devotees and the entire community for their unwavering support. In his closing remarks, Chairman Brij Sharma highlighted the temple’s journey since its founding in the 1960s as the Gita Society, its establishment in Medinah in 1987, and its expansion in 2000. Today, Hari Om Mandir stands as a beacon of cultural and spiritual preservation, housing deities like Vaishno Devi Mata, Radha Krishna, and Shiv Panchayat, and offering programs such as Sunday services, Hindi classes - GURUKUL, and major Hindu festivals like Janmashtami and Deepawali.

The Mahotsav’s innovative elements, from the helicopter petal shower to the children’s active participation, underscored Hari Om Mandir’s commitment to keeping traditions alive while embracing modernity. The event’s engaging format—combining sacred rituals, spiritual discourse, and cultural performances—created a dynamic and inclusive experience that resonated with attendees of all ages.

“Our heartfelt gratitude to Hari Om Mandir for organizing such a spiritually enriching and culturally vibrant event. The Shri Hanuman Mahotsav exemplifies the strength of our community in preserving and celebrating our heritage. We remain committed to amplifying the voices of our diverse community, fostering unity, and promoting cultural pride. We look forward to supporting future initiatives that bring us together in devotion and celebration, ensuring that our traditions continue to inspire generations to come” said Asian Media USA, Chairman and Founder Suresh Bodiwala.

CHICAGO, IL — Well-regarded cooking magazine "Food & Wine" scoured the country to compile a list of bucket list-worthy pizzerias, and found one restaurant in the Prairie State that made the cut.

America is in a golden age of pizza, according to "Food & Wine," as chefs across the country came out of the pandemic itching to try out new tactics for making the classic dish. The magazine said American pizza has never been better than right now.

"Italian immigrants brought pizza to the States in the early 20th century, where it was popularized as an affordable and adaptable dish, leading to the rise of iconic regional styles in New York, Chicago, Detroit, New Haven and even California," Food & Wine said.

Coming in third on the list of 10 pizzerias, Bungalow by Middle Brow in Chicago was lauded for its fresh take on tavern-style pizza. Before adding pizza and natural wine to the menu, Middle Brow started out as a brewery.

The establishment makes its own beer, wine, bread and pizza dough entirely from sources in Illinois and surrounding Midwest states.

"Most of the week, the Neapolitan-ish pies rock local veggies, from pickled ramps with barbecue bacon to rainbow chard, green garlic, and goat cheese. The pizzeria specifically serves crunchy, cracker-thin, tavern-style pizza on Tuesdays, cut into small, snackable squares," said Food & Wine, which calls itself "the global authority on food and drink culture."

"Food & Wine: gives the top nod to John's of Bleeker Street in New York. Rounding out the top five pizzerias are L'industrie in Brooklyn, New York; Bungalow by Middle Brow in Chicago; Buddy's Pizza in Detroit, Michigan; and Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven, Connecticut.

Multiple Chicago suburbs have issued an urgent warning to parents about unsafe and "contaminated" tap water in the area, with potentially deadly effects if mixed with baby formula and consumed by infants under 6 months old.

In a drinking water alert sent Saturday by utility company Aqua Illinois, recent water sampling results collected in Kankakee showed nitrate levels of 11.9 milligrams per liter (mg/L). That's above the standard, maximum contaminant level of 10 mg/L.

Nitrate in drinking water is a "serious health concern" for infants less than 6 months old, the alert said, and could lead to blue baby syndrome, which could become fatal if not treated. Symptoms of blue baby syndrome can develop rapidly, the alert said, and include shortness of breath and blueness of the skin.

Unlike other water alerts, boiling, freezing or filtering the water will not reduce the nitrate levels, officials said. In some cases, doing so could make the contamination even worse.

"Excessive boiling can make the nitrates more concentrated because nitrates remain behind when the water evaporates," the alert said.

Water, juice, and formula for children under 6 months old should not be prepared with tap water, officials warned. Bottled water should be used for infants until further notice.

"Adults and children older than 6 months old can drink the tap water (nitrate is a concern for infants because they can’t process nitrates in the same way adults can)," the alert said. "However, if you are pregnant or have specific health concerns, you may wish to consult your doctor."

Multiple suburbs are impacted by the alert, the utility said, including Kankakee, Bourbonnais, Aroma Park, Bradley, Grant Park, Limestone, Manteno, Peotone, University Park and other neighboring townships.

Nitrate in drinking water can come from natural, industrial or agricultural sources, including septic systems and runoff, officials said, and levels of nitrate in tape water can vary during the year.

In a Facebook post, the City of Kankakee said the high levels are due to the recent rains combined with the "runoff of spring agricultural fertilization."

"Recent heavy rains caused fertilizer from fields to runoff resulting in unprecedented levels of nitrates on the Kankakee River," the water utility said, which collects daily water samples. "We will continue to monitor the nitrate levels and update customers when levels have returned to normal."

University Park officials have expressed concerns about Aqua's handling of the community's water supply.

"They make the statement that it’s okay for people over 6 months of age to drink it. Well, that’s crap," Mayor Joseph Roudez III said. "And I wouldn’t drink it myself so I wouldn’t trust it at all. We know there was rain June 4, but we don’t have to suffer every time there's an excessive amount of rain. And at the end of the day Aqua has not been a good steward."

David Carter, who serves as president of the utility, said in response the company has been "working diligently to be good partners" to University Park and other communities.

He also said there's no timeline for nitrate levels to drop, but said river conditions have been improving. Customers will be notified when the advisory is lifted.

Bottled water was available starting Sunday, June 8 for families with infants between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the following locations, Aqua Illinois said:
