Park Ridge’s Patrick Bashill is “Thomas Edison” in The Factory Theater’s world premiere of The Curious Circumstances of Louis Le Prince, written by Chase Wheaton-Werle and directed by Becca Holloway, June 6 - July 19, 1623 W Howard St. On September 16, 1890, inventor Louis Le Prince boarded a train bound for Paris, in preparation for a visit to the United States to demonstrate his single-lens motion picture camera. He never reached his destination. Seven years later, it falls to his widow and son to investigate his disappearance and fight for his legacy in this amazing story based on true events.Based on the true unsolved mystery of Louis Le Prince, this play follows Lizzie and Adolphe Le Prince as they track the inventor’s last known whereabouts and cross the Atlantic to a New York courtroom for a confrontation with legendary inventor Thomas Edison.Half Victorian-era mystery, half courtroom drama, The Curious Circumstances of Louis Le Prince explores how we struggle with unresolved tragedies, and how we remember (or don’t remember) the people in our history.

On Saturday, May 24, Park Ridge American Legion Post 247 invites local Scout troops and other kids to take part in a flag installation event at the Town of Maine cemetery. Each participant will get the names of 10 veterans buried in the cemetery, and they will need to find the graves and plant the American flags. The City of Park Ridge officially shared the details of the annual Memorial Day Parade and several other events.
On Saturday, May 24, Park Ridge American Legion Post 247 invites local Scout troops and other kids to take part in a flag installation event at the Town of Maine cemetery. Each participant will get the names of 10 veterans buried in the cemetery, and they will need to find the graves and plant the American flags. The event will kick off at 9 a.m., but families are encouraged to start arriving at 8:30 a.m.
Post 247 is also organizing a commemoration ceremony at the Town of Maine cemetery’s Civil War memorial on Sunday, May 25. The ceremony will also start at 9 a.m.
On Memorial Day (May 26) itself, Post 247 will hold a commemoration ceremony at the World War II memorial in South Park at 9:30 a.m. The Memorial Day Parade will step off from the intersection of Cumberland and Albion avenues at around 10 a.m. It will head north on Cumberland Avenue until it reaches Prairie Avenue, head northeast on Prairie Avenue for one block, turn southeast on Garden Street until Prospect Avenue, then turn northeast on Prospect Avenue and walk around the north side of Hodges Park to reach Park Ridge City Hall and the 9/11 memorial south of the building. Residents are encouraged to “line the route, show their patriotic spirit, and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.”
The parade will feature local veterans, marching bands, scouts, churches, civic groups, and community organizations. Former Park Ridge Kiwanis president Bill Scharringhausen will serve as a grand marshal. Active duty service members who march in the parade are invited to get a free lunch at the city hall.
Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1300 W. Crescent Ave., will hold its annual Memorial Day BBQ at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free, but the food won’t be.
Park Ridge Public Library and city offices will be closed. Public transportation will operate on Sunday schedules, which means that Pace bus routes 209, 226, 240 and 241 won’t operate at all and other CTA, Metra and Pace services will operate on reduced schedules compared to the usual Monday service.

ACROSS ILLINOIS —Small Cheval serves the best burger in Illinois, according to a report from Chowhound, a website for food aficionados or, alternatively, food nerds.
The list titled “The Hands Down Best Burger in Every Single US State” features a variety of preparation methods. It was released just in time for National Hamburger Day, which is Wednesday, May 28.
There’s no one way to prepare a burger. Even those claiming to be “classic” burgers have major differences, especially in the toppings.
To find the best burgers among what the research firm IBS World estimates are more than 80,000 burger joints and restaurants across the country, Chowhound looked first at restaurants that excel in both classic and creative burger preparations. The process also included taste testing, online research, and outreach on local social media communities and to trusted contacts in the restaurant and food media industries.

By default, burgers come "house style" with a perfectly ratioed dijonnaise sauce, onions, and pickles, with the option to add bacon, lettuce, tomato, truffle, and white cheese sauce. On the flipside, the milkshake menu (both as-is and spiked) is extensive, with standouts like salted caramel and cookies and cream
The restaurant is a more-casual spin-off of the Chicago landmark, Au Cheval. The burger menu at Small Cheval, which has locations across Chicago and one suburban location in Rosemont, is simple and includes its signature double cheeseburger and its signature double hamburger. You can have that topped with bacon, lettuce or tomato if you'd like.
One burger aficionado stopping out to the Wicker Park location had this to say:
We came for lunch carryouts on a weekday. Our burgers were very delicious. I have eaten here before and will return. I recommend for eating or carryouts. Fresh and delicious. I had the plant based burger, others had beef burgers with cheese. All excellent.

The place is clean and beautifully decorated. In addition, the staff was very pleasant. The burgers were tasty and the fries were freshly made with great flavor.
The full 50-state list offers some intriguing takes on what is widely regarded as America’s favorite sandwich. Some are made with grass-fed wagyu beef, others with ground turkey, and still more with salmon and other critters. Some may not contain meat at all. Cheeses vary from classic American to blue cheese to goat cheese.
In Hawaii, the Honolulu Burger Co. presents the “Alpha Elvis,” which has bacon, banana and peanut butter, or the “Loco-Moco,” made with Spam, bacon, an egg, and mushroom gravy.
And then there’s Mike Duffy’s in St. Louis, Missouri, whose offerings include the award-winning Cajun burger with hot jalapeños and Cajun aioli or the fully customizable and vegetarian black bean and quinoa burger. The restaurant also allows substitutions of bison or salmon.
“Whether you’re a burger traditionalist or an avant-garde burger consumer, the restaurants on this lineup will have a solid option for both schools of thought,” Chowhound’s Jane Godiner wrote.
