A controversial Northern Kentucky attorney won't be practicing law in the area any time soon after he threatened multiple women, filed frivolous lawsuits and seemingly tried to pay off a doctor during a custody dispute.
The Ohio Supreme Court decided Wednesday to suspend Ben Dusing's license for three years. The news comes on the heels of a Kentucky Supreme Court decision that did the same. Dusing's license had been temporarily suspended since 2022.
Dusing told The Enquirer via a Facebook message Wednesday that he's currently in Ukraine doing "service work," and said he had no comment on the decision.
Here's a recap of what led to Dusing's law suspension:
The 9-minute video
In 2021, Dusing posted a nine-minute video to Facebook threatening two attorneys involved in his court case at the Kenton County Family Court.
In it, he used the word "f---" or some variation of it almost 50 times and threatened to "blow (their) asses up" if they gave a reason to do so.
He's since apologized for posting the video, adding that he was advocating for court reform and frustrated by what he viewed as corruption in the system.
Kentucky Supreme Court justices wrote that the video was “incredibly disturbing and threatening.”
'Frivolous litigation'
Dusing was also accused of filing "frivolous litigation."
The Kentucky Supreme Court previously wrote that Dusing used the law to "harass and intimidate others" instead of for legitimate purpose.
For instance, Dusing filed several motions seeking recusal of the judge who presided over his child custody cases, filed almost two dozen appellate actions in two cases and sought to have an opposing attorney disqualified just days before a trial’s scheduled start.
He also threatened the judge and opposing attorneys with disciplinary complaints and approached authorities over “what he contends was criminally corrupt conduct in the proceedings,” the Kentucky court document said.
Court filings state Dusing even asked his attorney to pay a psychologist $5,000 to change a custodial evaluation, something Dusing chalked up to a misunderstanding.
7 days in jail
Dusing’s actions that led to his license suspension weren't the only times his behavior was legally reprimanded.
In 2023, he was sentenced to seven days in jail after being found in contempt of court for violating orders restricting communication with his ex-fiancée.
He'd sent his ex-fiancée emails unrelated to the well-being of his child, according to court records.

J.J. Hoover was on the mound for some big moments throughout his 14-season professional baseball career, even appearing in multiple postseason games with the Cincinnati Reds.
Now, the right-hander is making moves toward retiring from baseball once and for all, pivoting to a sphere he believes has a lot of overlap with the fans of the sport: trading cards, from baseball to hockey, Pokémon, Japanese comics and more.
Hoover, who pitched in five seasons for the Reds from 2012-16, is the proud owner and operator of Hoov's Hangout, an online retail entity turned brick-and-mortar store that opened in Alexandria, Kentucky, in March.
"I still have a lot of sealed (cards) from the late 90s, and I didn't know what to do with them, so I started looking into different avenues with all of that. And then (Hoov's Hangout) kind of morphed out of that. I was like, 'Oh, I could potentially sell cards,'" said Hoover, who moved back "home" to Northern Kentucky in 2021.
Hoover's business started in 2023 as a digital platform, complete with a YouTube channel, Instagram profile and Discord server, so that others interested in the trading card community could chat with one another. The 37-year-old also started a series of livestreams around the same time, hosting daily giveaways for those who wanted to begin collecting trading cards.
It's a different fan base warmly embraced by Hoover.
"I love my online community through my YouTube and my Discord, and I will continue to foster that online community, because ... being in baseball at the major league level, you get to interact with fans from all over the country," Hoover said.
He is even revamping his retail website, HoovsHangout.com, so that all the inventory in his physical shop is also available to those online followers.
"Being able to have that online community is still a huge part of my future plans."
'It's been a wrestle ... trying to figure out where baseball fits into my life'
The idea for his shop came during a time when Hoover was ready to leave the pitching mound, but he didn't know what to do next. Now, behind the counter at Hoov's Hangout, he's realizes his connections to baseball and to Reds fans are evergreen.
"It's been a wrestle the last probably three or four years, trying to figure out where baseball fits into my life. And now it's just going to be connecting with fans on my past playing career, and then the modern players," Hoover said, adding that he has cards for plenty of the current Reds stars, such as Matt McLain and Elly De La Cruz.
He doesn't shy away from indulging customers with anecdotes from his Reds career, either. In fact, he thrives off doing just that.
"That's one of the things that I've really enjoyed doing here at the shop is being able to tell stories of when I played, interact with young fans, old fans alike. So that's been a great thing to be back into that," he said.
Trading cards aren't just for nerds
Hoover has carried his passion for trading cards since as long as he has been passionate about baseball.
Like many student-athletes, he collected baseball and football cards as a kid (in addition to other sports). But it was a whole new ballgame once Pokémon cards came out in the 1990s, when he was about 12 years old.
Hoover has been hooked ever since.
While growing up, though, there were two different types of shops: those for sports cards and those for Pokémon-type cards. Stereotypical jocks shopped at one. Stereotypical nerds spent time at the other.
He wants to continue showing people that they can be part of both camps, just like he is.
"That barrier (used to be) you were a sports fan or you were kind of on − I don't mean it badly − but you were on the nerd side," he said. "And now that's broken down, and there's a great interaction."
"What you're seeing is (athletes) at the highest level talk about their Pokémon collection, or talk about playing games and being a gamer, being a collector."

The space itself consists of a handful of display cases filled with trading cards of all kinds and price points, including De La Cruz and other current MLB greats for $2, collectible Pokémon cards for upwards of $70 and even autographed Reds cards from current players, such as McLain, reaching $600.
In the center of the shop are rows of tables and chairs, where Hoover hopes to host tournaments and other events for his customers.
He also plans on installing TVs to broadcast the latest Bengals and Reds games or even the Pokémon World Championships, so absolutely every customer feels welcomed inside his space.
It's more than a shop; it's a hangout.
"My motto is 'your hobby, your hangout,'" Hoover said
Located at 405 Washington St., Hoov's Hangout is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's closed Mondays.
