What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Perry Hall restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Perry Hall, MD, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Perry Hall, MD
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

ROSEDALE, MD — A discount grocer continued its surge into Maryland, adding its fifth Baltimore County store.
Grocery Outlet opens Thursday in Rosedale at 1753 Chesaco Ave.
Sarah Williams and Nick Mirkovich are the independent owners and operators of the 20,000-square-foot location in Rosedale Plaza.
Williams and Mirkovich will donate $1,000 to Breaking Through The Seam, a nonprofit feeding Baltimoreans, at the store's 10 a.m. grand opening and ribbon-cutting.
"We are so excited for this Rosedale Grocery Outlet," Layla Kasha, Grocery Outlet chief marketing officer, told Patch in a Tuesday statement. "We see a lot of potential here in Rosedale. Customers are excited for the treasure hunt shopping experience we offer and for the opportunity to stretch their dollar on our wide selection of fresh produce, meat, deli, dairy, packaged groceries, frozen, health and beauty care products."

This is the 14th Grocery Outlet in Maryland. The others are in:
Founded in 1946 by Jim Read, the California-based chain is still relatively new to Maryland.
Grocery Outlet debuted in the Old Line State in June 2022 in Hagerstown. Another two stores opened that year, followed by five in 2023 and four in 2024.
"We are very excited to be expanding Grocery Outlet's footprint in Maryland with our new location in Rosedale," Kasha said. "This store comes on the tails of several other store openings in Maryland—a store in Overlea, Cockeysville and Westminster. Having multiple locations in the Baltimore area allows us to be strategic with marketing and distribution."
With hundreds of stores nationwide, Grocery Outlet is still expanding.
The chain broke ground on a Randallstown location in July 2024. Another store is planned at the Annapolis Mall in the current location of JCPenney, which is slated for redevelopment.

BOWLEYS QUARTERS, MD — Waterfront restaurant and bar Sunset Cove announced its permanent closure this weekend in Middle River as the marina where it was located undergoes an overhaul.
The eatery, open for 13 years, was known for its sandy outdoor dining area surrounded by palm trees. A bandstand hosted live musicians in the summer, while a true dock bar sat mere feet from the shoreline. A lengthy floating pier lined with string lights welcomed transient boaters popping in for dinner.
Children often played in the water, while adults took polar plunges into the frigid creek in the winter. Customers could watch planes land at Martin State Airport across the waterway.
Another bar was found inside, where garage doors created an indoor-outdoor space. A canoe hung from the ceiling lent to the nautical theme.
The menu featured the classic Maryland crab and cream of crab soups. The rockfish tenders were another popular appetizer. The fish and shrimp tacos and burger topped with crab dip were other staples. Some items were named after local landmarks like the Carroll Island crab dip, the Bowleys best wings and the Galloway Fries.

The restaurant, which once offered seating by an outdoor firepit, is now blocked off with a no-trespassing sign. The eatery closed for the season in November 2024 and never reopened.
"We would like to take this time to thank all of our loyal customers and employees. It has been an amazing run with many fantastic memories. We look forward to seeing many of you at Steelefish Grille and Hickory Lodge," Sunset Cove said Sunday on Facebook, directing patrons to its sister restaurants.
Sunset Cove had overlooked Frog Mortar Creek since April 2012 when it opened in the neighborhood of Bowleys Quarters, replacing the Wild Duck Cafe.
Located at 3408 Red Rose Farm Road, the 4,000-square-foot eatery was part of Maryland Marina.
The 18.5-acre marina started as a family endeavor, but it was sold in August 2022 to an Atlanta-based real estate company. Mongo Holdings bought the marina through its wholly owned subsidiary, Taylor Mercantile, for an undisclosed price in partnership with Keel Funds.
At the time, the buyers announced plans "to begin work on various growth initiatives ... over the next several seasons."
"Planned improvements for the facility include a boat rental offering, future expansion of our boat storage capacity/options, along with possibly adding a new fuel dock and retail ship store. We are excited about this new venture and investment and look forward to adding more in the future with our newest business partners," the buyers said in a 2022 press release announcing their purchase.
Mongo Holdings and Keel Funds declined to comment on Sunset Cove's closure.
The partners also said Maryland Marina is not for sale, though the Mongo Holdings website lists the marina under its "real estate for sale" tab.
Patch is awaiting a callback from the Maryland Marina general manager.
Maryland Marina was opened in May 1946 by Edward J. Miskiewicz; his brother, Leonard J. Myskiewicz, and their father, Felix F. Myskiewicz.
The business started as a small boat manufacturing plant under the name of Maryland Marine Manufacturing Company. It built rowboats for Montgomery Wards, Sears and the general public. The plant also produced Lightning class sailboats.
Manufacturing scaled back throughout the 1950s and 60s with focus turning toward the marina. The final rowboat rolled off the assembly line in 1967.
The marina now has 360 in-water boat slips, and it can store over 600 vessels on land. The marina can accommodate yachts 60 feet long.

Does the public school superintendent live in Baltimore County? She says yes, but an inspector general thinks she may have moved too late.
Patch Staff
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — An independent investigator questioned whether the Baltimore County Public Schools superintendent lived in the county by the date required in her contract.
The investigation does not allege any overt malice, but it does suggest the residency requirement should be reviewed to ensure mutual understanding.
BCPS Superintendent Myriam Rogers denied allegations that she lives outside the county.
"I can't speak to the motivations of people who made these false statements," Rogers told WYPR. "I can tell you that every day, my commute is less than six minutes. I can tell you that in the cold months, there wasn't even an opportunity for my car to warm up when I drove myself over here."
An inspector general report published Tuesday said Rogers was required to live in Baltimore County by July 1, 2024. That was a year after she started the job.
Find out what's happening in Perry Hallfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
The inspector said the school system provided documents showing her date of residency was Sept. 14, 2024, but the school system didn't update her address in its internal records until Dec. 20, 2024.
"Dr. Rogers is a resident of Baltimore County. Her driver's license, voters' registration and other personal documents reflect this address," a Baltimore County Public Schools spokesperson told WJZ. "The Board of Education leadership was made aware of the timeline of her move. Her focus remains on serving the 110,000 students of Team BCPS and moving the school system forward."
The report said Rogers owns a home outside Baltimore County, which is allowed, but she is also required to have her primary residence in Baltimore County.
BCPS told the inspector that Rogers primarily lived at an apartment in Baltimore County. The school system also provided a moving agreement showing that furniture was moved from outside the county to an apartment inside the county.
The inspector general, however, said he found that Rogers' driver's license is associated with her home outside the county.
The inspector also said Rogers' name was not on the apartment lease. A school spokesperson told The Baltimore Banner that the superintendent lives there with family, and Rogers' name was left off the lease for her own safety as a public figure.
The report further alleged that an employee used their personal email, rather than their Baltimore County Public Schools email, for Rogers' moving paperwork. This may have violated records management policy, the Maryland Office of the Inspector General for Education said.
The inspector recommended that the Baltimore County Board of Education:
"OIGE believes this is a contractual matter between the BCPS-BOE and the Superintendent of Schools for Baltimore County and is referring this matter to the BCPS-BOE for further review and consideration of the identified recommendations," Inspector General Richard P. Henry wrote.
BCPS did not respond to Patch's request for comment.
