What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Hazel Park restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Hazel Park, MI, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Hazel Park, MI
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

A Michigan cannabis processor agreed to surrender its permit and cease operations following accusations of “widespread regulatory violations” including missing records and inaccurate product labeling.
As agreed to in consent orders signed with the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency, Flavor Galaxy, located in Hazel Park, will lose its license, according to the Detroit Metro Times.
The business’ owners, Hanna and Jaklin Shina, are also barred from participating in the state’s legal industry in the future, whether as an owner or an employee, the newspaper reported.
According to the Times, the punitive action follows two formal complaints in which the CRA alleged “serious violations” at Flavor Galaxy.
These include:
Regulators first started looking into Flavor Galaxy in February 2024 after discovering the business was marketing prerolls that were advertised as infused with distillate.
That’s despite not reporting having tested any distillate in track-and-trace records, according to CRA’s complaint.
Regulators launched a second investigation into the business last summer after receiving an anonymous complaint, according to the CRA.
Cannabis operators and observers say that inversion, in which a licensed cannabis business inserts product grown illegally into the legal supply chain, is a known and growing problem nationwide.

Hazel Park, MI – Main Street Hazel Park Main Street Hazel Park (MSHP) has a lot of projects in store this year to improve its community, the biggest being the Hazel Park Place Making Project. It includes upgrading the corridor on John R Rd between 8 Mile and 10 Mile by decorating with more trees, plants, concrete walkways, and lightbulbs.
MSHP received $125,000 in funding for this project, 60% from the Hazel Park Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and 40% from Main Street Oakland County. Plans will officially start in the spring, and the new decorations will be placed throughout the summer.
The mission statement of MSHP is “to enhance the economic potential and promote the eclectic character of John R Rd.”
The Place Making Project fits this goal because it is “trying to tie a lot of things together,” says James Finkley, the Hazel Park Planning and Economic Development Director. It adds beautification to the community, attracting more people to visit and shop, which in turn strengthens the local businesses. “We want the character of that corridor to be inviting,” James explains.
Another project MSHP has planned for this year is the Main Street Gateway District Signage. This includes the installation of new signs in the Main Street District, welcoming people to the area. New pole banners will also be added to the light poles on Northern John R, and these plans have no cost to the city.
James enjoys working for MSHP because “it’s a very unique organization. It ties together business owners and different areas of our city to help grow economically and socially.”
One project that reflects James’ statement is the business awareness campaign, “Face and Soul of Hazel Park.” This happens once a month, in which a local business is featured on the Main Street Hazel Park Facebook, highlighting its name, owner, and five star reviews.
Marcel Badia, a board member of MSHP, works very closely with this project, creating business awareness to attract more customers to the corridor. “I am always finding ways to make Hazel Park open and welcoming for families,” he explains. Marcel was previously on the beautification commission board, and although he enjoyed that position, he found that he wanted to help more with the businesses themselves. He loves being part of MSHP because he “enjoys helping small businesses in any way we can.”
Along with the “Face and Soul of Hazel Park” project, the MSHP Facebook highlights any upcoming events, as well as the new logo they created last year.
A major purpose of MSHP is to provide resources and help businesses in the area, including those that are starting new and looking to open there. Adam J. O’Connor, the chair of MSHP, explains that, “we focus on historical preservation, business innovation, community engagement, small business retention and attraction, and partnerships aimed at furthering the city’s objectives.”
Adam, a business owner and resident of Hazel Park, sees firsthand how the development and vitality of the businesses on MSHP have a direct effect on the type of community Hazel Park is becoming. He loves working with Main Street Hazel Park because, “though it is a small city geographically, it is a diverse and wonderful, up-and-coming town that is nestled in the literal corner of Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties. We like to joke that all roads lead to Hazel Park,” Adam enthuses.
Along with the many projects Main Street Hazel Park does, there is a lot of administrative work that goes on in the community. Although this work isn’t showcased as much, it is equally as important for the organization, promotion, and economical development of the city and the businesses within it.
“It’s an exciting time to be involved with the city, and we are grateful to be working on multiple projects, from city signage to facade improvement grants for small businesses,” Adam said.
Any updates on current or upcoming plans can be found on the Main Street Hazel Park website and Facebook page.
