ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - High winds have caused damage to utility lines, outbuildings and other structures and knocked down trees across the First Alert 4 viewing area on Friday evening as a tornado-producing storm swept across the area.

Reports of substantial damage, injuries, or loss of life will be updated here as details are made available.

A 9-year-old child is injured after a tree fell on a home in Cahokia Heights. First responders are at the scene as of 10:30 p.m. and First Alert 4 is working to gather additional information.

As of 10 p.m. Friday, West Alton township has seen significant damage and first responders are searching the area for any injuries or incidents. Emergency management officials say a home collapsed in the 300 block of Bradshaw Lane. One person was inside and with the help of neighbors pulled themselves from the structure.

In Villa Ridge, structural damage was reported to a building that housed a gas station and Burger King where residents of a nearby mobile home park were sheltering from the storm. Injuries have been reported, the extent of those were not immediately available but they are not believed to be life-threatening. First responders were still at the scene after 10 p.m. Friday.

St. Louis firefighters and EMS workers were responding in the 10 o’clock hour to at least three reports of vehicles trapped in flood waters. News crews are working to get additional information about those incidents.

The newsroom is also receiving reports just after 10 p.m. of substantial damage in Bridgeton, where a tornado was reported. One house there has collapsed and another is damaged with people inside.

A large, covered, outdoor structure has collapsed near the football field at Rockwood Summit High School. A vacant building near Sixth Street and Missouri Avenue has also collapsed.

No injuries have been reported in either incident.

In addition, numerous utility lines are down throughout the region. Public safety agencies ask residents to stay away from downed lines and stay indoors if the power goes out.

Trees are also being knocked down due to the storm. The First Alert 4 newsroom has received multiple reports from viewers showing trees and limbs down.

Significant damage was also reported earlier near Rolla and in Phelps County, Missouri. First Alert 4 is working to get more information from those areas.

First Alert 4 has news crews at multiple locations and is working to provide the latest information as this dangerous storm moves through the viewing area.

Friday night's storm destroyed a Rolla nail salon, prompting owner Christina Do to start a fundraiser to rebuild and support employees.

ROLLA, Mo. — Friday night's storm caused widespread damage across Missouri and greatly impacted multiple Rolla business owners off of Bishop Avenue.

In one strip, eight businesses were hit. The stores range from a pharmacy to a nail salon.

The owner of CK Nails, Christina Do, learned that the tornado that swept through the area hit her business when a friend sent her a video Friday night of the building located at South Bishop Avenue. Do rushed to the scene in disbelief.

"We have been around since 2014... it was our last (business) standing," Do said of the family business.

Now she's asking that the community help get their belongings out of the building. "At this point, we don't even know if this stuff can be saved," she added.

Hours after the storm, Do started a fundraiser, hoping to raise $30,000. The insurance will not cover all of their expenses, according to the GoFundMe created by Do.

"Our hearts are broken," she said.

Do told 5 On Your Side it's heartbreaking to see the devastation of the store, after her parents poured their heart and soul into it.

"It means a lot to me because for me to watch my parents who migrated to America, if it weren't for them and their earned money, I wouldn't be here today," added Do.

Two doors down is Full Range Fit. The store was days away from officially opening.

Co-owner Lela Wibbenmeyer said, "We were going to open on Monday."

Wibbenmeyer's husband expanded the gym to include group training and youth fitness. The newest addition was ready to be revealed. The storms changed those plans.

Mother Nature stripped the structure down to its bare bones. The only thing left were the heavy weights inside.

"We do know we want to bring this service to the community, this is his passion this is what he wants to do," she said about her husband.

In these bad moments, they also saw the good Saturday morning.

Wibbenmeyer added, "This morning we had over a 100 friends, family, people I didn't know and another gym, their entire team came."

She believes there is still so much to be thankful for.

"It’s overwhelming, humbling and a huge blessing," shared Wibbenmeyer.

ST. LOUIS – One day after an intense tornado-warned storm system ripped through the St. Louis region, shock and devastation linger across many communities.

Officials have reported 12 storm-related deaths across Missouri from Friday’s severe weather events, including at least two in the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan area.

The storm system unleashed apparent tornadoes, fierce winds, thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain, leaving widespread destruction in its wake. On the heels of nighttime storms, the day after revealed the full scope of damage, and many residents are only now beginning to grasp the severity of what they endured.

To illustrate Friday’s severe weather, FOX 2 has gathered striking snapshots from ten communities or locations hit hard by the storms.

Purina Farms

Photo submitted by viewers Bill Etling and Tim Murphy showed extensive damage to the welcoming center at Purina Farms, a family-friendly attraction in Gray Summit, Missouri, that showcases a variety of animals. The main building sustained major damage, including roof completely blown off, walls pushed back and tables, chairs and trees scattered outside the entrance. A side building used for storage also lost its roof. The site is currently closed, but no injuries have been reported to animals or visitors at this time.

DesArc, Missouri

Kathy Lange Kiepe of Des Arc, Missouri, in Iron County, shared showing extensive damage to a loved one’s home. Large tree branches toppled the roof, bricks were blown off the walls, and equipment was scattered around. Most indoor structures are also heavily damaged.

Florissant

One of St. Louis’ largest-populated suburbs saw widespread damage across residential neighborhoods. Large trees were toppled, some falling onto homes and cars. Photos submitted by Christina Tolls and Tiara Cornell show a variety of impacts, including one snapshot that shows a roof nearly blown off completely.

Creve Coeur Soccer Park

In Maryland Heights, Creve Coeur Soccer Park suffered major damage to a key office building. Walls are torn down and scattered equipment, including office chairs and file cabinets, is visibly displaced. Nextdoor municipality Bridgeton also noticed damage to several homes and trees.

Rolla, Missouri

Just west of the typical Greater St. Louis area, Rolla experienced widespread damage, with businesses and apartment buildings suffering significant impacts to siding and roofs. Zak Olivo shared several photos with FOX 2 of a Saturday morning drone tour.

Arnold

Arnold was one of the hardest-hit communities, facing widespread destruction across homes, businesses, parks and trees. Signs for local spots Applebee’s and Drury Inn were torn apart and whipped around. The Fox Chase apartment complex also suffered extensive damage to units and cars. FOX 2’s Caroline Pettey, along with viewers Stacey Meshell and Jordan Lorenz, captured some powerful images.

Perryville

Perryville High School was severely damaged with bricks and walls torn apart, exposing the building’s interior. The school will be closed until further notice. The school district and viewer Falon Miller shared photos with FOX 2.

Chesterfield

Storms caused multiple power lines to fall around Parkway Central High School and tree damages for nearby homes. Fallen power lines draped over a school bus lot, reportedly canceling one planned school trip to Tennessee. FOX 2 photojournalist Abby Palmer captured a notable photo just outside the high school.

Lebanon & O’Fallon, Illinois

Severe storms maintained their intensity across state lines, causing damage to mobile homes, barns and traditional homes. FOX 2 viewer Sassafrass Flick took a drone tour of both Lebanon and O’Fallon, Illinois. Among the most dramatic images were a barn that collapsed inward with its roof torn off, another barn with shingles displaced, and intense hail damage to the siding of a residential home.

Villa Ridge

Villa Ridge was slammed with widespread storm damage. The biggest story overnight was the apparent collapse of a roof of a Burger King, where one storm chaser is believed to have caught a tornado striking it in real time on video. The Franklin County Sheriff confirmed that everyone inside at the time was rescued safely. Still, it will take time to pick up pieces for the Burger King, along with businesses, schools, homes and trees around the area. As first responders and officials continue to survey and clear the damage, we're getting a better look at the destruction left behind by the extreme weather.

A toilet saved his life

5 On Your Side's Justina Coronel spoke with Rolla neighbors on Frost Drive, who said a man held onto a toilet when the roof of his home blew off.

Neighbors said the man didn't have a basement and ended up buried under the rubble. They dug him out and said he was okay before his son picked him up.

Elsewhere in Rolla, homes were smashed and furniture tossed around. Branches and uprooted trees littered the sides of roads.

Rolla businesses, school district hit

5 On Your Side's Justina Coronel also spoke with business owners who were set to open a new gym on Monday.

The owners of Full Range Fit said they moved from St. Louis to Rolla since a co-owner is from the area. The building was decimated by the weather.

The Mark Twain Elementary school also sustained visible damage to its roof. On Social media, Rolla Public Schools said "most of our buildings do not have power, making it challenging to begin the cleanup efforts." It also said the power outage wiped out the school district's food supply.

Tree smashes garage in Alton

Hannah Katherine from Alton, Illinois shared video of heavy winds causing a tree to fall over and crush her garage, along with an outdoor seating area.

Arnold, Missouri

5 On Your Side's Travis Cummings was out in Arnold, Missouri where the roof of a car port fell on top of vehicles at the Miller Crossing apartments.

"I was so panicked that I didn't even know what I was thinking at the time. Like, am I going to die?" said Kaitlin Strohmeyer, who lives at the apartment complex.

Elsewhere in the Arnold area, our crew saw roadside damage, including uprooted trees, bent power lines, and homes and businesses affected.

St. Louis County neighborhood

5 On Your Side's Mercedes McKay was in the Parc Argonne neighborhood in north St. Louis County near Florissant, one of the hardest hit subdivisions.

Neighbors were working together to clean up felled tree limbs, as some roads are still littered with downed power lines.

Purina Farms

An icon of the St. Louis area has been hit badly by an apparent tornado.

Located near Gray Summit, Missouri, Purina Farms is a family-friendly tourist attraction where visitors can interact with animals.

"Our Visitor Center, Pet Center, Barn and Incredible Dog Arena were significantly damaged," Purina Farms said on social media. "Most importantly, all employees who were onsite at the time are safe, and all of our animals are accounted for, safe and being cared for by our staff and with the help of our community partners."

East Central College

East Central College in Union, Missouri sustained damage to its athletic fields Friday night.

"We had damage to baseball, softball and soccer fields," a spokesperson for the college said. "We're asking that any ECC students affected by this contact Vice President of Student Development Sarah Leassner at sarah.leassner@eastcentral.edu or 636-584-6565."

Purina Farms personnel were able to secure the dogs, but one animal, Weaver, was trapped inside the building.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — Purina Farms was struck by an apparent tornado during Friday night's severe weather, causing significant damage to multiple structures, according to a social media post from the farm's Facebook page.

"Our Visitor Center, Pet Center, Barn and Incredible Dog Arena were significantly damaged," the post said. "Most importantly, all employees who were onsite at the time are safe, and all of our animals are accounted for, safe and being cared for by our staff and with the help of our community partners."

Located near Gray Summit, Missouri, the farm is a family-friendly tourist attraction where visitors can interact with animals.

According to a social media post from the Franklin County Humane Society, a building at the farm that housed two FCHS animals was destroyed.

"Last night, our manager got a call that Purina Farms was hit by the tornado, and the building that two FCHS pets were housed in was destroyed," the post said. "She immediately jumped in her vehicle and got to the farm as quickly as she could."

Purina Farms personnel were able to secure the dogs, but one animal, Weaver, was trapped inside the building.

"As soon as responders gave our manager the okay, she was in the building and secured our guy Weaver!" the post said.

According to the FCHS post, despite the extensive damage at Purina, "it was devastating to see the destruction to such a wonderful place and they have a long road ahead of them," the FCHS post said. "They did an amazing job coordinating and got everyone to work together to get all the animals to safety."

FCHS's post thanked a foster person who answered the call for help Friday night.

"Thank you to our foster who immediately took our manager's call and got to the farm to take the animals home, so (the manager) could stay behind and continue to help," the post said. "Having such selfless and dedicated people on our team is a blessing."

Rufio and Weafer are doing well this morning, the post said, and they are still available for adoption or foster.
