What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the St. Louis restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in St. Louis, MO, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in St. Louis, MO

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

In April 2024, seven restaurants closed, so having only two closures this year is a notable improvement—even though one was Gourmet To Go, a beloved catering and takeout staple that had served the community for 42 years. This April also brought several notable openings, including State Street on LaSalle. Formerly Alton’s State Street Market, the restaurant relocated upriver to the historic Elsah Landing space in Elsah, Illinois. Its iconic copper bar made the move as well, making it the first and only bar in Elsah—a town that was previously dry.

St. Louis-based leader in cannabis and cannabinoid product safety certification, CSQ is bringing Missouri’s cannabis industry together for an exclusive event to help operators stay ahead of the state’s evolving regulations. The CSQ QMS Workshop is a day-long seminar taking place on May 22nd designed to educate cannabis license holders about the state’s Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.

Throughout this workshop, a collection of quality assurance experts will answer questions about what it means to implement a QMS, debunk myths about Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and provide an overview of quality assurance tools, certifications, and training opportunities to simplify and ensure compliance.

Missouri license holders and Quality Assurance professionals in manufacturing, cultivation, extraction, or retail are welcome to attend, along with cannabis consultants, trainers, auditors, local regulators, and industry service providers.

Each $49 ticket includes morning coffee, full access to the 8-hour seminar, catered lunch on-site, networking opportunities, and a Certificate of Completion for CSQ’s Cannabis Safety 101 Course. Cannabis Safety 101 is a stand-alone 2-hour training outlining hazards that lead to unsafe cannabis and cannabinoid products and how to adopt a preventive—rather than a reactive approach to combatting safety hazards.

ASI, the local 94-year running, accredited, food safety company that conducts CSQ audits for license holders is hosting the workshop in their office building, located at 500 NW Plaza Boulevard.

Attendees are required to register online through the Eventbrite page (linked here) to secure a ticket. Members of the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association can receive free admission while supplies last using the members-only discount code.

St. Louis County, MO (May 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Ripa Avenue and Union Road in South St. Louis County resulted in two people being transported to area hospitals. The incident occurred around 7:05 a.m. and brought a significant emergency response from local fire and EMS units.

According to reports from Scanner News STL and emergency dispatch data, the crash was first reported at 7:07 a.m., prompting the dispatch of multiple fire and EMS units, including 1102, 1112, 1124, and 1137. EMS unit 1137 transported the first injured party shortly after arrival. A second ambulance, unit 1767, was later requested and transported a second patient to a hospital at approximately 7:53 a.m.

The severity of the injuries has not been disclosed, but both victims required medical transport, confirming the serious nature of the crash. The wreckage took nearly an hour to be cleared, with crews still on scene well past 7:30 a.m. during the peak of the morning commute.

An earlier crash nearby at Union Rd and Reavis Barracks Rd had already strained emergency response resources, with at least one other individual transported from that location. Fire unit 1112 remained on scene at Ripa Ave and Union Rd during the final stages of the response.

Our thoughts are with the two individuals injured in the crash, and we hope for their full recovery.

Intersection Collisions in St. Louis County

Wednesday’s crash at Ripa Avenue and Union Road highlights the traffic safety concerns common in South St. Louis County, where high-volume intersections frequently see accidents during peak hours. In this case, the early morning timing—just after 7:00 a.m.—likely coincided with increased commuter flow, making the intersection especially vulnerable to collisions.

Intersection crashes often occur due to a variety of factors: misjudged turns, failure to yield, distracted driving, and congestion-related errors. Emergency responses to these scenes often involve multiple agencies, especially when multiple victims are involved, as in this case.

Both individuals injured in this crash were transported to local hospitals by EMS, emphasizing the potential severity of even seemingly routine morning collisions. Fortunately, the prompt and coordinated response by St. Louis County fire and rescue personnel ensured that victims received timely care.

Missouri’s at-fault insurance system allows injured parties to pursue compensation from the driver determined to be responsible. However, claims involving multiple victims or unclear liability often require thorough investigation, documentation, and sometimes legal guidance. Early medical attention and accurate reporting are key to a successful recovery, both physically and financially.

As St. Louis County continues to address traffic safety through public awareness campaigns and potential intersection design improvements, drivers are reminded to stay alert and drive cautiously, especially during high-traffic periods.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a St. Louis County crash, getting timely help is critical.

When you’ve been hurt in a crash, finding the right support quickly can make all the difference. His journey to the papacy began south of his hometown, across the Mississippi River in St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — Nearly 70 years before becoming pope, Robert Francis Prevost called the Midwest home.

Prevost, who on Thursday became Pope Leo XIV, was born in 1955 in Chicago and is a White Sox fan. His journey to the papacy, however, began south of the Windy City across the Mississippi River in St. Louis.

On Sept. 1, 1977, Prevost started his path to the priesthood as a novice of the Order of St. Augustine in St. Louis. The religious order has a presence in around 50 countries and holds the core value to “live together in harmony, being of one mind and one heart on the way to God.”

Novices often spend one or two years preparing to enter the religious order. After his time in St. Louis, Prevost went on to study at the Pontifical Saint Thomas Aquinas University, before he was ordained in June of 1982, according to NBC News.

Prevost may have had St. Louis in his mind since childhood, as he lived in a divided baseball household as a kid. His brother, John Prevost, told Chicago station WGN that their father was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, while their mother was a Cubs fan.

Midwest Augustinians, which oversees the group of dioceses throughout the Midwest U.S., lists its original St. Louis location as the Augustinian Academy and Immaculate Conception/St. Henry Parish. The parish has since permanently closed.

"Pope Leo XIV brings to the papacy the heart of an Augustinian: a love for community, a thirst for truth, and a shepherd’s care for the people of God," Midwest Augustinians said in a press release. "His life of mission, teaching, and servant leadership reflect the best of our tradition."

An email sent to the Order of St. Augustine for any records related to Prevost's time as a novitiate was not immediately returned as of this article's publication.

St. Louis County, MO (May 8, 2025) – A 35-year-old man from St. Ann was seriously injured early Thursday morning in a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle on westbound MO-180, just east of Wismer Rd. The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. and prompted an emergency response from Community Fire and EMS personnel.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a fully custom motorcycle was traveling in lane 2 of westbound MO-180. Another vehicle, traveling in lane 1, abruptly changed lanes in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the vehicle that had merged, causing the rider to be ejected forward over his bike and onto the roadway.

The second vehicle, whose details remain unknown, did not stop and fled the scene after the impact. The motorcycle came to rest in lane 2 facing east, severely damaged, and was removed from the scene by A2B Towing.

The injured rider, who was not wearing a helmet or other safety restraints, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Community Fire and EMS to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for emergency care. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and search for the hit-and-run driver.

Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Accidents in Missouri

Thursday’s crash on MO-180 highlights the extreme vulnerability of motorcyclists and the devastating impact of hit-and-run accidents. Motorcycles lack the structural protection of other vehicles, making any collision, especially those involving ejection, far more dangerous. In this case, the sudden lane change by the unidentified driver directly led to a serious crash, with the responsible party fleeing the scene.

Motorcyclists rely heavily on surrounding drivers to respect safe distances and make deliberate, predictable lane changes. When this doesn’t happen, the consequences can be life-altering. The fact that the rider was ejected from the bike, landed in an active traffic lane, and was seriously injured underscores the severity of the incident.

Missouri law requires all drivers involved in crashes to stop and remain at the scene, especially when injuries occur. Leaving the scene of a crash is a serious offense, particularly when it involves bodily harm. Law enforcement agencies are likely reviewing traffic camera footage, area surveillance, and witness statements to identify the driver of the second vehicle.

Victims of hit-and-run accidents face not only physical recovery but also the challenge of securing compensation, especially when the at-fault driver is not immediately identified. In such cases, uninsured motorist coverage and legal assistance are vital resources to help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, and lost income.

Motorcycle safety remains a top priority for Missouri’s road safety advocates, who urge all riders to wear helmets and protective gear and for all drivers to maintain vigilance and share the road responsibly.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit-and-run crash, it is crucial to act quickly and seek both medical and legal support.

When serious crashes happen, you need clarity and guidance. Local Accident Reports is here to support injured victims through each step of recovery—offering timely updates, access to resources, and connections to professionals who care.
