What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the North Salem restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in North Salem, NY, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in North Salem, NY
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

After his victory in Evergate Stables’ $65,000 New York Welcome Stake at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows on Saturday, May 10, five-time Olympic medalist McLain Ward (USA) returned to the winner’s circle in the CSI4* 1.50m $75,000 Welcome Stake of North Salem Presented by The Kincade Group/UBS Financial Services, Inc. on Friday, May 16. He and Snapchat van de Broekkant Z (Hunter´s Scendix x Concorde) faultlessly stopped the clock in 32.62 seconds to secure victory.
Forty-two entries representing nine countries challenged Alan Wade’s initial 16-effort, 1.50m course in Friday’s $75,000 Welcome Stake of North Salem, with 15 advancing to the jump-off and six posting double-clear scores. Ward and the 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding he co-owns with Susan Heller and Beechwood Stables LLC were the pathfinders for both rounds, setting the bar high for their fellow competitors despite Snapchat’s inexperience at this level.
“Today just shows the level of sport we have here at Old Salem,” Ward said. “When we’re down in Florida, we always say that we have a lot of strong [events], and it’s great to see that level here in our home community. Snapchat is a young horse that we’ve been bringing along; this was actually his biggest competition to date. He jumped a brilliant clear, and I know he’s a fast horse. I just set my plan, and everything worked out because he was so game. Sometimes, in this position, it’s good to make all the rest chase you."
“You’re always a bit nervous when you have riders like Mark [Bluman], Jordan [Coyle], and Daniel [Bluman] coming behind you,” Ward continued. “They’re very fast riders, and they’re all brave enough to try no matter what. I think Mark was a bit unlucky, actually, but they were all very close. That’s the nature of the sport. Sometimes you’re on the winning side, and sometimes you get caught.”
Colombia’s Mark Bluman had Ward’s time (31.97) with S&L Maracana’ (Lucky Du Reverdy x Pronto), but a rail dropped him and S & L Farms’ 11-year-old Italian Sport Horse gelding into seventh place with the fastest four-fault score.
Daniel Bluman (ISR) and Jordan Coyle (IRL) rounded out the podium with double-clear scores separated by just hundredths of a second. Bluman finished in second place aboard Landon De Nyze (Comilfo Plus Z x Quadrillo), Over The Top Stables LLC’s 12-year-old Zangersheide gelding (0/0/32.71), while Coyle earned third aboard Falkirk Farm LLC’s 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding For Gold (For Fashion x Heraldik) (0/0/32.78).
“Snapchat is done for this weekend,” Ward said. “I’m really proud that he stepped up and handled this well, and I don’t want to overtax him. We have a great mare going tomorrow, Princess Dalou H, and then my old partner, Callas, will handle the Grand Prix on Sunday. We’re looking forward to a great weekend.”
The Spring Horse Shows also celebrated the grooms working hard behind the scenes with Friday evening’s $5,000 Old Salem Farm Groom’s Class Presented by McLain Ward, Inc., and EquiFit, Inc., with sections for both hunter and jumper grooms and the horses in their care. Olga Kruglova earned top honors in the jumper section for her top-notch care of Ward’s Louboutin Z, a 10-year-old Zangersheide gelding ridden by Baylee McKeever (Brewster, NY) in the 1.35m Junior/Amateur Jumper division. David Valdivia brought home the win in the hunter section for his first-class care of Aquitaine Equine’s Remedy, a 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding ridden by Stella Propp (New York, NY) in the Amateur-Owner Hunter 3’3” 18-35 division.

Edited Press Release
North Salem, NY – May 10, 2025 – Six-time U.S. Olympian and World #8 McLain Ward added another victory from the annual Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows to his record on Saturday, this time claiming top honors in Evergate Stables’ $65,000 New York Welcome Stake with High Star Hero. Ward and Hero blazed faultlessly through the timers in 31.62 seconds.
One of the premier stops on the American hunter-jumper horse show circuit, the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows host competitions for riders of all levels and ages, ranging from young children on ponies to Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Week 1 (May 6-11) is USEF ‘National-6’ rated for hunters and jumpers and designated FEI CSI3*; Week 2 (May 13-18) is USEF ‘Premier-6’ rated and designated FEI CSI4*.
Course designer Alan Wade challenged 40 entries representing nine nations to a technical, 16-effort track set at 1.50m for Evergate Stables’ $65,000 New York Welcome Stake. Of the 15 horse-and-rider combinations who made it to the jump-off, Jordan Coyle (IRL) and King Kannan GP took an early lead, tripping the timers in a blistering 32.93 seconds. Only two other pairs caught that time: first Daniel Bluman (ISR) aboard Hummer Z (0/0/32.33), then Ward aboard High Star Hero as the penultimate entry (0/0/31.62).
“Having experienced horses like Daniel’s and mine helped a lot [when catching Jordan’s time], especially in that turn from Fence #1 to #2,” Ward said. “These classes are very competitive, and the levels are very high. With a great surface [like the Old Salem Farm International Arena], even after the many inches of rain that we’ve had, we were able to compete at 100 percent.
“He’s a wonderfully talented horse,” he added of Michael and Wendy Smith’s 12-year-old Belgian Sport Horse gelding. “We’ve had some great moments, and we’ve had some down moments. But we’ve really hit our stride from the second half of the season in Florida, performing there very consistently and continuing that here today. We’re looking forward to a great summer in Europe with him. I’m going to be using my tried-and-true partner First Lady in the Grand Prix tomorrow, and then both of these horses go to Europe next week to compete in [the Nations Cup of] Rome the following week.”
Bluman earned second place for his blistering 32.33-second time with Abigail Wexner’s 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding. Coyle ultimately landed in third with his time of 32.93 seconds aboard Elan Farm’s 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding.
Other jumper highlights included the naming of several division champions, including Starlight Farms 1 LLC’s Casanyo PS, ridden by Ilan Bluman (COL) in the Open Jumper 1.35m, and Kay Lawson’s Navarro O, ridden by Jonathan Corrigan (IRL) in the Open Jumper 1.25m.
The $3,500 Junior Jumper 1.15m, $3,500 Amateur Jumper 1.15m, and $7,000 Junior/Amateur Jumper 1.25m classics also took place throughout the day, with their respective winners as follows: Eva Tucci (New York, NY) aboard her Princip F. Damgaard (0/0/30.269), Kimberly Coyle (Wellington, FL) aboard her Dartani (0/0/28.012), and Scarlett Samuels (New York, NY) aboard Channel Equestrian LLC’s Karissa HDH (0/0/33.608).
In the Hedge and June Road hunter rings, Amateur-Owner and Children’s Pony hunters took the stage with multiple new champions emerging. Stella Propp of New York, NY, earned both the Champion and Reserve Champion titles in the Amateur-Owner 3’3” 18-35 division with Aquitaine Equine’s Remedy and Arabesque, respectively, while Becky Gochman of Wellington, FL, piloted Gochman Sport Horse LLC’s Forever Romance to the Amateur-Owner 3’3” 36+ Championship.
Coming out on top as the Grand Children’s Hunter Pony Champion was Catrine Golia’s 17-year-old Royal Prince, ridden successfully in the Combined Children’s Hunter Pony division by Skylar Davis of Armonk, NY.

Matt Damon reunited with his wife of 19 years - Luciana Bozán Barroso - and their three teenage daughters Stella, Bella, and Gia for Easter brunch at Purdy's Farmer & the Fish in North Salem, NY.
The 54-year-old Oscar-winning screenwriter showed his hometown pride in a Boston Red Sox cap and he still had his burly grey beard while on break from filming Christopher Nolan's big-screen adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey.
Matt marvels at the fact that Stella is now 14, Bella is 18, and Gia is 16.
'It happens fast. It's weird,' Damon told ET last July. 'It happens kind of slowly and then really fast in a beautiful way.'
On October 20, Bella posted a TikTok video of herself dancing with her 'daughter' Stella, who showcased her twerking skills, in honor of her 14th birthday.
Missing from the family reunion on Sunday was the Argentinian 48-year-old's 25-year-old daughter Alexia Barroso from her first marriage to Arbello Barroso, which ended in 2004.

Lucy was still technically married when she met the Stella Artois brand ambassador in 2003 while bartending at a nightclub in South Beach Miami where he'd been filming the Farrelly Brothers' conjoined twin comedy Stuck On You.
