What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Canton restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Canton, OH, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Canton, OH

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

PLAIN TWP. − Matalco, a Canadian aluminum slab producer, is closing its Stark County plant in June.

The closure will result in the loss of 71 jobs.

The company, based in Brampton, Ontario, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the state of Ohio on Tuesday.

Matalco said it has offered some of the employees jobs at its other five U.S. plants. The plants are in Lordstown; Bluffton, Indiana; Franklin, Kentucky; Shelbyville, Kentucky; and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. Matalco also has a plant in Brampton.

"On April 8, Matalco made the difficult decision to close its Canton, Ohio site to optimize our portfolio of aluminum remelting and casting facilities," Mark Zak, Matalco USA's vice president of human resources who's based in Lordstown, said in an email. "All employees have been informed of the closure. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the impact it will have on our Canton employees, their families, and the community.

"Matalco is committed to assisting affected workers with relocations to other Matalco locations, career transition services, and job placement assistance, in collaboration with local authorities."

When asked if tariffs announced by the U.S. or retaliatory tariffs announced by other countries played any role in the decision to close the plant, Zak said they did not. He said the company is experiencing "weaker market conditions."

The company's Plain Township plant is located at 4420 Louisville St. NE.

Matalco said it was giving 90 days notice of the plant closing in its letter to the Ohio's Office of Workforce Development. Zak signed the letter.

The company gave a breakdown of the job positions to be eliminated, which includes 12 furnace operators.

The letter said it's a non-union plant and bumping rights do not apply.

Giampaolo Group, a recycler based in Toronto, and Rio Tinto Aluminum own Matalco, which was founded in 2005. Rio Tinto announced in December 2023 that it had bought a 50% stake in the company.

This is a great new restaurant for the Belden area finally something not just chicken. The new all you can eat crab station has a wide variety of offerings with a menu that will change with offerings to keep things new and fresh. We were there Monday 3-17-2025 for their first day opportunity experience. We sampled alittle bit of everything. They kept the food coming making sure you had your fill. You have 2hrs to dine which was more than enough time. The crab was full and meaty easy to get nice big pieces out. To finish your meal they have desserts and of course I had to get one of each and they all hit the spot the fried Oreos where my favorite but their cheese cake was also delicious.

CANTON − House of Loreto, a 50-bed licensed nursing facility at 2812 Harvard Ave. NW, has been sold.

The Congregation of the Divine Spirit and Hari Group, an Ohio limited-liability company, announced Tuesday that Hari Group has acquired the facility.

After the order determined that the sale of House of Loreto would be the best course, the sale was approved by Bishop David J. Bonnar, head of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, and diocesan leadership.

“My concern from the onset of our discussions has been for the care of the religious sisters, who have lovingly and faithfully served the needs of older adults for decades,” Bonnar said in a statement.

“For the past several years it has become increasingly difficult for stand-alone, community-based skilled nursing facilities to exist without either partnering with a larger system or selling to an individual or entity with the means to enhance the facility and its offerings, making it not only financially sustainable, but desirable for those seeking long-term care for themselves or their loved ones.”

The transition will ensure stability for residents and staff while allowing the sisters to continue their ministry in Canton, including a modified role as volunteers at the House of Loreto.

Hari Group and the Congregation of the Divine Spirit see the acquisition as a significant step in preserving the mission of the sisters, while ensuring that the residents continue to receive faith-driven, compassionate services that have been House of Loreto’s hallmark.

"The organization looks forward to working closely with the dedicated staff and volunteers to enhance the quality of care and maintain the facility’s strong community presence," according to a statement.

Order has served the House of Loreto from its beginning

“We are privileged to take on the stewardship of this esteemed institution,” Bharat Thakkar, owner of Hari Group, said in the statement. “Our commitment is to uphold the values and mission that the sisters have nurtured over the years, ensuring that the House of Loreto remains a place of comfort, dignity, and care for its residents.”

Sister Michele Beauseigneur, the community's superior, noted that the Congregation of the Divine Spirit has been involved with the House of Loreto "literally from the ground up,”

“God’s providence has been evident from the beginning in the wisdom of Mother Patricia O’Connor, founding superior of CDS, and the experienced guidance of Sister Ann Jeanne, nationally-acclaimed founding administrator," she said.

"We trust in his continued care in this new chapter. We have been blessed with deep friendships and support from the Canton-area communities, and we look forward to watching Hari Group succeed in their mission, and come to love Canton, Ohio.”

Founded in 1956 by Archbishop John Mark Gannon of Erie, Pa., the Congregation of the Divine Spirit has dedicated itself to the sanctification of the Christian family through education and care of seniors.

In 1957, Diocese of Youngstown Bishop Emmet M. Walsh asked the order to staff the existing Loretto Home for the Aged on Blake Avenue NW in Canton.

The increased demand for care for the elderly brought about a bequest from local insurance agent, William L. Zink, to begin construction of a new House of Loreto on Harvard Avenue, which opened in 1963. The remainder of the total cost was financed by the hard work of the sisters, with the debt paid in full by 1972.
