Locally, protestors from the “No Kings” movement will gather in Murfreesboro from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the public sidewalk near The Avenue shopping center, between Chili’s and Mimi’s Café. Organizers say the gathering is part of a coordinated response across the region to what they view as authoritarian symbolism surrounding the national event.
According to the group’s website, their concerns include erosion of civil rights, government overreach, and the militarization of public celebrations. “They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services. The corruption has gone too far,” the No Kings group stated online. “No thrones. No crowns. No kings.”
The Trump parade, set for Saturday in Washington, is expected to feature more than 6,000 active-duty personnel, 150 military vehicles including tanks, and 50 aircraft, according to Scripps News. It will mark the first military-style parade in the capital since the Gulf War-era celebration held by President George H.W. Bush in the early 1990s.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's golf program has signed transfer Isabella Johnson to its 2025-26 roster, head coach Lauren Wamsley announced Tuesday afternoon. Johnson, a Murfreesboro native, will join the program as a sophomore, transferring in from the University of Tennessee.
"We are so excited to have Isabella join our Blue Raider family this fall," said Coach Wamsley. "Izzy brings a wealth of experience from junior golf to her previous semester in college. I know the community is very excited to have her back in Murfreesboro. We can't wait to unlock the rest of her game here at MTSU and we're ready to win some trophies with Izzy soon!"
As a Lady Volunteer, Johnson competed in eight rounds throughout three tournaments, averaging 75.63 during those rounds. She made her collegiate debut at the Moon Golf Invitational, shooting a low round of 73 in the final round to finish at six-over-par. Her best finish of the season was at the Daniel Island Invitational, earning her first top-25 finish at T23. Johnson turned in her first round at par of her career on the final day, shooting a 219 (+3) overall at the event. The incoming sophomore also competed at the Tennessee Spring Challenge, finishing tied for 33rd in the 36-hole competition.
"I am so excited for this opportunity to continue my collegiate golf journey in my hometown at MTSU," said Johnson. "I could not be more proud to represent the city and the people that are near and dear to my heart by playing the sport that I love. Go Blue Raiders!"
A graduate of Providence Christian Academy, Johnson had a prolific junior career and was named the 2024 Tennessee Golf Association Girls' Junior Player of the Year. On the junior tour, she qualified for the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur and the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur, while also winning the 2021 and 2023 SNEDS Tour Tournament of Champions. Thanks to her wins on the SNEDS Tour, she was named the 2021 and 2023 SNEDS Tour Player of the Year.
Playing at Providence Christian Academy, she is a three-time TSSAA Division II-A team champion and brought home the individual crown from the 2024 TSSAA Division II-A state championship. RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The rogue zebra that’s become a Middle Tennessee celebrity over the past week was seen running in a field in Rutherford County Friday morning.
The zebra was seen around 7 a.m. on Friday, June 6 in a field near Ridgewood Drive in Christiana.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said deputies observed the missing zebra, affectionately nicknamed “Ed,” through a drone camera and are continuing to track it. People have been asked to avoid the area while authorities work to safely recover the zebra.
“We don’t want to scare the zebra,” Sheriff’s Cpl. Sean White said. “We need time to get him to calm down.”
Law enforcement said the zebra’s owner was notified and a veterinarian was asked to help rescue the animal. However, as of 6 p.m. on Friday, the sheriff’s office still hasn’t confirmed whether the zebra was captured.
News 2 spoke with multiple residents in Christiana about the zebra. Some people were excited about the sighting, but some were concerned with its welfare.
One of the homeowners who talked to News 2 was Tennessee Agriculture Extension Agent Rebekah Norman, who studies livestock. She said the area provides an excellent habitat for the zebra, with different types of grass, as well as ponds for water.
“Zebras were made to go without human interaction. They’re wild animals, so he’ll be just fine as long as he can get access — or she can get access — to food and water,” Norman explained.
The zebra has been on the run for almost a week after escaping from its new owner, who obtained the animal on Friday, May 30. Rutherford County officials first alerted the community to the rogue zebra on Saturday, May 31, after it ran through traffic on Interstate 24 near Joe B. Jackson Parkway.
The days-long search has turned the zebra into quite the online sensation, with people around Middle Tennessee sharing zebra memes. The animal has “appeared” in social media posts from law enforcement agencies, as well as businesses like Martin’s Home and Garden, Deja Moo Springfield, Front Street Pub, Ralph’s Donut Shop, Pancake Pantry, Gaylord Opryland Resort, and Nashville Shores.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna is taking steps to expand emergency care access in Rutherford County with plans to build a freestanding emergency department in Murfreesboro. The hospital, owned by HCA Health Services of Tennessee, has filed a certificate of need application with the state to move the project forward.
The proposed location is a nearly 2-acre site at the intersection of South Church Street and Warrior Drive on the south side of Murfreesboro. The main property, formerly home to Eckerds Pharmacy, sits just 1,800 feet from the I-24 / South Church Street interchange (Exit 81), offering convenient access for patients and emergency services. The site is listed in county records as being owned by 2490 Church, LLC.
If approved, the 11,500-square-foot emergency facility will feature 11 exam rooms, including one trauma room, along with a fully equipped lab and imaging department. Plans also include dual entry points, one of which will be specifically designed for ambulance access.
In addition to the emergency center, TriStar StoneCrest is proposing a 3,400-square-foot ambulance base on the property, which would house three ground transport ambulances. These vehicles would be used to transport patients from the Murfreesboro site to the main hospital in Smyrna, located near I-24 and Sam Ridley Parkway. It appears that the ground transport building would be built on property that sits about 1,700 feet away from the Warrior Drive / S. Church St. intersection. A second property, owned by 2490 Church, LLC and HCA Healthcare Inc., is on Southgate Blvd. and together with the other property, adds up to almost 3-acres.
The total estimated cost for the project is nearly $19 million. Chief Executive Officer Louis Caputo made the announcement during a press conference in Smyrna on Thursday morning.
The freestanding ER is part of a broader trend of expanding localized emergency services to meet rising population and healthcare demands in growing communities like Murfreesboro. If the state approves the certificate of need, the new facility will bring faster emergency response times and increased care access to residents on the city's south side.

At 9:45 AM before the conference starts on Wednesday, employers are invited to join us for a free brunch hosted by the REWARD Program. We will be talking about Best Practices for Successful RTW Programs as experienced from our inaugural REWARD Honor Roll honoree(s). The second year of honorees will also be announced.

The spacious Embassy Suites Nashville SE Hotel is located at 1200 Conference Center Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN 37129, less than 35 minutes from the airport & 30 minutes from downtown Nashville.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the rate of $184 (king) or $197 (2 queens) plus applicable taxes. This rate will be available through May 11, 2025, unless this block becomes fully reserved prior to this date.
