What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Galveston restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Galveston, TX, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Galveston, TX

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

GALVESTON, Texas — Travelers looking to book a cruise out of Galveston should take note of a recent change involving a major cruise line.

Carnival Cruise Line has updated its age policy, requiring all solo travelers to be at least 21 years old, the company announced.

Under the new rule, any guest under 21 must be accompanied by someone over 25. Exceptions include legally married couples and qualified military personnel.

RELATED: Sailing from Galveston? You’ll be among the first to visit this new private island

Carnival stated that guests unable to prove they are 21 or those attempting to board alone will be denied entry at the port without a refund.

The policy change is effective immediately.

Carnival currently operates five ships out of Galveston: the Breeze, Dream, Jubilee, Legend, and Miracle.

RELATED: Could big changes be coming to Galveston’s waterfront?

This update comes as Galveston solidifies its position as a major player in the cruise industry. According to AAA’s latest cruise travel forecast, 19 million Americans are expected to set sail on ocean cruises in 2025.

Galveston has now become the fourth most popular cruise port in North America and the eighth busiest in the world, surpassing previous records. In 2024 alone, the port saw more than 3.4 million passengers and over 380 sailings from its three terminals.

“Cruising from Galveston has never been better,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director. “We’re offering more sailings to more destinations on newer and larger ships. In November, we’ll open our fourth cruise terminal, which will be home to Norwegian and MSC Cruises.”

Tips for booking your cruise

If you’re planning to set sail, AAA recommends keeping these tips in mind:

With more sailings, new cruise terminals, and an increasing number of travelers, Galveston continues to rise as a top departure port. Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a seasoned traveler, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years yet for cruising.

I grew up attending Mardi Gras in Beaumont and Port Arthur, but if I’m being honest, neither of those celebrations holds a candle to Mardi Gras in Galveston, Texas. The annual two-week event features lively float parades, delicious food, balcony parties, live entertainment, and so much more. So get all decked out in purple, yellow, and green, and get ready to have some fun!

The third-largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country (second only to New Orleans and Mobile), Mardi Gras in Galveston, Texas began in 1911 and attracts upwards of 350,000 people each year. Take a day trip to Galveston and enjoy this year’s festivities, which take place Feb. 21-March 4, 2025. Over three million beads are thrown each year, with some special surprises mixed in (more on that in a bit).

Galveston's historic downtown district, The Strand, turns into one big party as colorful floats parade down the street and live bands and DJs deliver upbeat performances. You can either stand on the sidelines and watch at ground level or buy tickets to a balcony party for an even better view of the festivities. Balcony parties are known for being tons of fun, featuring cash bars and music.

If you're interested in riding on a float, the process is seamless. All you have to do is bring your crew (or "krewe," as it's known in Mardi Gras culture), and the festival organizers supply the float, beads, and a driver. If you have a golf cart, there's also a special golf cart parade.

Now, more on those special surprises I mentioned earlier. The festival hands out several "Golden Beads" that include prizes like a cruise, VIP tickets to the Galveston Island Wine Festival, round-trip tickets to Mexico, and more. Nobody knows exactly which parades the beads will be thrown in, so attend as many as possible if you can!

Many of the historic homes in The Strand join in the fun by adorning their front gates with over-the-top Mardi Gras decorations. No matter where you go on the island, the vivacious spirit of Carnival season is impossible to escape.

Visit the Mardi Gras! Galveston website or the Mardi Gras! Galveston Facebook page for more information about this year’s festival, including a full schedule of parades and entertainment as well as how to sign up to ride on a float.

Have you ever attended Mardi Gras in Galveston, Texas? If so, what’s your favorite thing about it? Check out our previous article for more things to do in Galveston. If you need a place to stay on the island, The Grand Galvez Resort is my pick. Not only is it full of history, but it’s also conveniently located near the city’s main attractions and boasts sweeping views of the Gulf.

Whoever planned this needs to have their employment status evaluated. I understand improvements need to be made, but there has to be a better way of managing the traffic flow than this. It has taken us nearly 3 hours to move just over 2 miles. Unacceptable.

Who does this to an area that is busiest during the weekends?? Poor planning at best.

This is going to be so bad for those leaving the island during afternoon rush hour. The feeder is getting wider but there’s still just 1 lane for that Tiki exit.

Galveston’s beaches traded grains of sand for flakes of snow Tuesday as a winter storm amid freezing temperatures brought a rare snowfall to the island’s shores.

Residents marveled at the exceptional weather event as it has been nearly two decades since a memorable snowfall reached the beaches. For the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management, dealing with the snowfall was “business as usual.”

“We were well-prepared for this,” said Spencer Lewis, a spokesperson for the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management. “It was a very unique experience. This happens once every quarter-century, from what it looks like, so it’s interesting to see how to handle heavy snowfall in the county.”

Some in Galveston said they saw 4 to 6 inches of snowfall, but on the beach, at least 1 inch of snow was reported. According to a preliminary report from the regional National Weather Service office in League City, snowfall totals in Galveston County included:

How often does it snow in Galveston?

Although many residents fondly remember the Christmas Day snowfall of 2004, Galveston has seen snow more recently.

On Feb. 15, 2021, during the historic statewide deep freeze that year, Galveston saw just 0.3 inch of snow.

Well, we aren't the only ones dealing with snow and cold this morning. It's not every day that you see a snowy Galveston, TX beach. Their temperature as of 8:30 am is a balmy 21°. pic.twitter.com/wyT8Duasyw

The airport in Galveston also recorded an inch of snow on Dec. 10, 2008 — a day when much of the region, including Houston, experienced snowfall.

But the most memorable snowfall was the Great Christmas Eve Snowstorm of 2004, during which snow ranging from 1 to 13 inches blanketed Southeast Texas. Galveston only saw an inch of snowfall, according to the National Weather Service, but it was the first measurable snowfall on the island since December 1989.
