What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Sugar Land restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Sugar Land, TX, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Sugar Land, TX

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Sol Living Trust of Sugar Land claimed the jackpot-winning ticket. It was sold at a Murphy's USA in Sugar Land.

AUSTIN, Texas — Remember that Mega Millions ticket sold in Sugar Land that hit the $800M jackpot? That prize has now been claimed.

In a release sent out Thursday, the Texas Lottery said the massive prize, which was the biggest single lottery prize ever awarded in the state, was claimed by Sol Living Trust of Sugar Land.

Editor's note: Video above is from right after we learned a ticket sold in Sugar Land hit the $800M jackpot.

The ticket for the Sept. 10 drawing was sold at Murphy USA at 7520 Highway 90A in Sugar Land. The numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24 and 66 with a Mega Ball of 6. For selling the winning ticket, the business also cashed in with a $1 million bonus.

The winner picked the cash option, which means they received $409,297,624 before taxes.

The Mega Millions started as a $20 million jackpot in June and grew from there, rolling over 27 times before the big Sugar Land win on Sept. 10.

The Sugar Land winner becomes the Texas Lottery’s 15th Mega Million jackpot winner and first since Oct. 2023, when a ticket won an annuitized $360 million prize from a ticket sold in San Angelo.

Can the Mega Millions winner remain anonymous?

Texas law says that any lottery winner with a prize over $1 million may maintain their anonymity when coming forward to claim the prize.

Only 11 states, including Texas, allow anonymous lottery winners. The rest of the U.S. requires them to come forward publicly, usually sometime within a year after winning the jackpot.

Officials say public winners promote trust in lottery games like the Mega Millions contest because they put faces and names to the winners, allowing other players to know for sure that a real winner has been selected.

In Texas, the winner has only 180 days, or six months, to claim the jackpot. The shortened timeframe (some states give up to a year for winners to come forward) puts additional pressure on the lucky person to develop a plan for what to do with their new fortune.

Austin — The Sol Living Trust of Sugar Land claimed the estimated annuitized $800 million jackpot prize that was advertised for the Mega Millions drawing held on Sept. 10 – the seventh largest prize in Mega Millions history. The cash value option was selected at the time of purchase and the claimant received $409,297,624 before taxes – the largest prize ever paid out to a single Texas Lottery player.

The winning Quick Pick ticket, which matched all of the numbers drawn (1-2-16-24-66, Mega Ball 6), was purchased at Murphy USA 8848, located at 7520 Highway 90A, in Sugar Land. For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, the retailer received a $1 million retailer bonus. The winning Mega Millions jackpot started as a $20 million prize on June 7 and rolled 27 times before being hit.

The claimant becomes the Texas Lottery’s 15th Mega Millions jackpot winner and the first since Oct. 6, 2023, when The Blue Yucca Trust won an estimated annuitized $360 million prize on a ticket that was purchased in San Angelo. Texas joined the multijurisdictional game in 2003 and had its first Mega Millions jackpot winner in 2004 when Ut Van Nguyen of Carrollton claimed the $101 million advertised jackpot from the Oct. 1, 2004 drawing.

In addition to the Sept. 10 jackpot-winning prize, 175,127 Mega Millions tickets in Texas, including those with the Megaplier add-on feature, won lower-tier prizes ranging from $2 to $40,000.

“We absolutely love when Texas Lottery players win big, and it’s a tremendous honor to congratulate our state’s largest-ever jackpot winner,” said Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “This jackpot win shows that any Texas Lottery ticket could lead to an exciting prize, and if you’re playing, the next one could be yours.”

Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but still walk away winners. Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier (Match 5+0) prize of $1 million. By choosing the Megaplier for $1 more per Play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million. Drawings are broadcast each Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT.

The Houston metro area gas station that sold the $810 million Mega Millions ticket on Tuesday learned about the store’s luck by reading the news and a late-night phone call.

Murphy USA 8848 in Sugar Land was preparing to close for the night when the night-shift employees got a call around the time the state lottery released details of the jackpot-winning ticket and the business that sold it.

“We had one of our closers get a call,” Murphy USA district manager Jonathan Amaya told Houston Public Media. “And we started reading articles online and it was our store. It is the craziest thing.”

The lottery player had purchased the ticket at the Murphy Express at 7520 Highway 90A in Sugar Land and matched all six numbers drawn Tuesday night.

The lucky numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66 and the gold Mega ball 6.

“We’re just excited,” Amaya said. “Hopefully we get to meet the customer that won the winning ticket, and we’re really excited for the community as well as this location. It’s a big win.”

Lottery players who strike it big in Texas can remain anonymous if their winnings are larger than $1 million.

Tuesday’s winner has yet to claim their prize, but elected to receive the $409.3 million one-time lump sum after choosing the cash value option at purchase, the Texas Lottery said.

The business sits across the street from Constellation Field, the home ballpark for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys — the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros — and 21 miles southwest of downtown Houston.

Because it sold the winning ticket, Murphy USA is eligible to receive a $1 million retailer prize.

“I want you to give your employees a raise,” Darryl Roquemore, a regular at the gas station, told the outlet.

“I checked all my tickets when I got up this morning because I play here,” he added. “And they’re very nice at this store, they’re very polite to everybody.”

Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery, gave the unidentified winner several tips before cashing in their ticket.

“We are beyond thrilled to celebrate Texas’ largest-ever jackpot winner and can’t wait to meet and congratulate them in person,” Mindell said. “If you’re the lucky holder of the winning ticket, be sure to sign it, secure it in a safe place, consult financial and legal advisers and then contact the Texas Lottery before making your way to Austin to claim the prize.”

It was the seventh-largest jackpot ever won in Mega Millions history, and the largest lottery prize by a Texas lottery player.

Texas wasn’t the only state that saw million-dollar winners from Tuesday’s drawing.

Four other lucky players — from New York, California, Florida and Washington state — matched the five white balls to secure a $1 million prize.

The ticketholder in New York purchased the lucky slip from a Gulf Express gas station in New Windsor, 15 miles north of West Point.

SUGAR LAND, Texas — The land of sugar got a little sweeter after someone who bought the ticket there won the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot!

The winning ticket was sold at a Murphy USA gas station off Highway 90 in Sugar Land.

The rising prize is a result of a winless streak in the lottery game for more than three months. The jackpot was last won in Illinois on June 4 with a ticket valued at $552 million.

For Tuesday's drawing, the cash option was $404.2 million.

It's a pretty good payday for the gas station that sold it, too. Businesses that sell the winning ticket gets 1% of the winnings -- capped at $1 million.

This is just the third Mega Millions jackpot won this year. Before the Sugar Land winning ticket, one was sold in Illinois and the other was in sold in March in New Jersey. That prize is still unclaimed. Winners in New Jersey have one year to claim their winnings.
