The Washington Wizards are officially making moves ahead of the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania.
"Breaking: The Milwaukee Bucks are trading Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson and a pick swap to the Washington Wizards for Kyle Kuzma, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and second-round draft compensation, sources tell ESPN," Charania tweeted.
Middleton, a three-time All-Star, had been rumored for a possible trade to the Wizards for the last week or so, and the Wizards get him on board. However, the more intriguing asset for the Wizards in this deal is AJ Johnson, the No. 23 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The 20-year-old prospect becomes the fourth first-round pick from this past year's draft to join the Wizards roster along with Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington and Kyshawn George.
With the trade, Kuzma is now in a place to contend with the Bucks, where he will team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard to try and challenge for the Eastern Conference crown.
The Wizards also say goodbye to Baldwin, who now returns to the city he called home in college at Milwaukee.
The Wizards are back in action tonight against the Brooklyn Nets. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) – 27 News has confirmed Thermo Fisher Scientific is the “vital employer” considering moving around 1,800 jobs out of the community referenced in a memo shared among state lawmakers.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including all of those representing Middleton, sent the memo. In it, they asked colleagues to cosponsor a proposal giving the city a temporary exemption from state law governing tax incremental districts (TID).
“Middleton is working to retain 1,800 jobs at a major and vital employer that is being recruited by other states and facing the need to open a new TID in that effort before an existing district closes next year that would take their increment value well below the current 12% limit,” the memo said. “By creating this exception, Middleton will be able to move forward with a plan to augment state efforts to retain and add jobs in Wisconsin.”
27 News compared the details referenced in the memo to employment statistics on Middleton’s largest companies given by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Madison Region Economic Partnership, City of Middleton and the community’s chamber of commerce.
Thermo Fisher is the only company in the community employing more than 1,800 people. A source close to the negotiations confirmed the company is the “vital employer” referenced in the memo.
27 News reached out to Thermo Fisher for comment. The company did not respond.
Middleton Mayor Emily Kuhn is not publicly naming Thermo Fisher, saying she wants to try and preserve delicate negotiations over economic incentives to keep the employer in the community. Those negotiations have played out over the last several months in Middleton and at the state level.
“The negotiations are very sensitive, and we want to make sure that we are respecting the privacy of the company as they move forward in their decision making,” Kuhn said.
In both cases, the company initiated the discussions, according to Kuhn.
Included in the negotiations is the prospect of forming a new TID, to lessen the financial burden on the company in building a consolidated campus in Middleton. Currently, Thermo Fisher’s buildings are spread out across the Madison area.
Middleton has two large TIDs already in place. Their combined value leaves the city little room under state-imposed limits to offer a compelling incentive to build a new campus in the community. One of them, TID 3, is set to expire next year, affording the city more flexibility.
But Thermo Fisher is getting competing offers now from other states, according to the memo. Kuhn said at least one of the states is on the east coast.
Kuhn saw offering incentives to Thermo Fisher as a means to buoying the workers at the company, and then by extension, the rest of Middleton.
“We are supporting local businesses, in addition to the centralized vital employer,” Kuhn said.
