What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Oconomowoc restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Oconomowoc, WI, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Oconomowoc, WI
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - An Oconomowoc man says he’s getting stopped in the street as people are recognizing him from his viral TikToks.
He’s running what he calls "Wisconsin marathons." But there's a key part of his motivation he had not shared until now.
Wisconsin-themed run
What we know:
When he joined TikTok three weeks ago, runner Clayton Ljungberg’s goal was to have people take ultramarathon running less seriously.
"I loved the absurdity – it was just a personal challenge," Ljungberg said.
He started with a grueling 31-mile run around an Oconomowoc roundabout.
More than a quarter of a million views later, Ljungberg had another idea.
There’s a nearly 27-mile run between five different Culver’s, and another between Lake County Kwik Trips.
The theme evolved into all things Wisconsin.
"I’m definitely leaning into my Midwest tendencies here, yeah," he said. "It’s on brand that I’d be doing a challenge in the rain."
Health scares
Dig deeper:
Ljungberg knows more than most that, just like Wisconsin weather, life can change in unexpected ways.
"I did suffer two major injuries and health scares that kind of make me thankful for my ability to run," he said.
What he hasn’t shared in his videos is that he once couldn’t even walk.
In 2018, Ljungberg spent a month in a wheelchair and six months in physical therapy after dehydration led to a brainstem injury.
"Every new movement was a milestone at the time. I just kinda latched onto that," he said.
Then, in 2024, severe pain led doctors to discover Ljungberg would eventually need a hip replacement.
"There will be a full collapse anywhere in the next 10 years," Ljungberg said.
Behind the laughs of a brew and brat run is a man hoping to inspire others to not look back. That is, after all, the state motto: Forward.
"Don’t beat yourself up," he said. "Don’t take yourself too seriously along the way, just have fun with it."
Follow along
What you can do:
He plans to run a new marathon every week.
You can follow Ljungberg on TikTok at @Fffwisco – it stands for "far-fetched fitness."

Two different employers announced facility closures in Oconomowoc and Prairie du Chien, which are expected to leave 100 workers out of a job.
California-based metal can maker Silgan Containers Manufacturing Corp. filed a layoff notice with the state Wednesday, telling state officials that it plans to close one of its facilities in Oconomowoc that employs 56 people.
According to the notice, layoffs are expected to start around July 21. The plant will run with limited production into August or later. The workers affected by the closure include 46 hourly and 10 salaried employees, with positions ranging from can line mechanic to plant manager, according to the notice.
Get trustworthy reporting and unique local stories from WPR delivered directly to your inbox.
The notice also said production “volumes will be absorbed by other Silgan facilities.” Silgan has several other sites in southeast Wisconsin, including a technology center Oconomowoc and manufacturing plants in Menomonee Falls and Kenosha.
The announcement comes after Silgan and 20 other companies in the food processing or steel can-making industry sent a letter to the Trump administration on Feb. 4 seeking protections from tariffs.
The letter said nine tin mill steel plants had closed since President Donald Trump first enacted tariffs on steel and aluminum in 2018. The letter said the companies import at least 70 percent of the steel they use to make cans that help feed 330 million Americans.
Days after the letter was sent, Trump announced he would remove past exemptions to 2018 tariffs on steel, bringing tariffs on all steel imports up to 25 percent beginning on March 12.
Silgan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, Truvant North America, a North Carolina-based packaging and containers manufacturing company, filed a layoff notice with the state on May 15. The notice said Truvant is closing one of its facilities in Prairie du Chien “due to changing business circumstances.”
According to the notice, 44 of the 74 employees who work at or report to the facility will be laid off. The notice said 30 employees accepted offers to transfer to other company facilities, each within 4 or 30 miles of the closing plant.
Truvant’s layoffs are expected to begin around July 15, the expected closure date for the plant, according to the notice. The notice said separation dates may fluctuate. Truvant declined to comment.
Wisconsin has had near-record-low unemployment for the last few years. The statewide unemployment rate was 3.3 percent in April, the most recent month with available data.
In Waukesha County, home to the city of Oconomowoc, the unemployment rate in April was 2.9 percent, according to state data. Meanwhile, in Crawford County, home of Prairie du Chien, the unemployment rate was 4 percent in April, state data shows.

OCONOMOWOC — A building in downtown Oconomowoc that has sat vacant for years is about to get a major facelift inside and out when plans come to fruition for it to be turned into a public market containing several businesses, such as a bakery, a florist and a deli.
Kim, Mike and Ken Herro want to transform the former Oconomowoc Enterprise building into a public market. Plans are not set in stone and still need municipal approval, but work has begun on the interior of the building that housed a seasonal haunted house after the Enterprise offices moved into The Freeman’s building in Waukesha. The parking lot has hosted several food trucks over the years.
Mike Herro said MSI General is removing asbestos inside the building. Once that work is done, then they can begin to work on a floor plan, as well as exterior renderings.
He said the renovated building will include more windows and doors.
Plans for the building have gone through several iterations, Mike Herro said, and have included different footprints, including 202 through 310 E. Wisconsin Ave. The most recent plan focused more on food trucks, as well as an indoor space with a possible beer hall and an outdoor space for entertainment and relaxing. When the Herros presented the plans to the Common Council in August, there were some concerns expressed about traffic and competition with brick-and-mortar businesses located in downtown Oconomowoc.
Mike Herro said by filling the market with small businesses such as a flower shop and a deli that are not already operating in downtown Oconomowoc, the market would be "filling the void."
The inside of the market would also offer seating and restrooms for both interior businesses and the outside food trucks, helping those businesses to be more viable in Wisconsin’s colder months. The outdoor space would include mature trees and an area for kids to play.
Mike Herro said the hope is to have city approvals in place and the work completed so the market could open during the first part of 2026.
“We have been talking to some folks, but we are always looking for new and different ideas,” Mike Herro said about businesses opening in the market. “It would be a real asset to the downtown. It would fill in some gaps that we don’t have in the downtown that we used to have. And people really yearn for these things and will keep people down here.”
Kim Herro, Mike’s wife, said she envisions the market as a place where people could relax and where they could collaborate with others.
She said there has been interest from a woman who makes healthy juices and foods to rent a space.
Being located inside a public market would offer synergy to different businesses and would help to offset costs associated with operating a business.
“The whole idea is that you create this atmosphere, you create a destination, not just a business,” Kim Herro said.
She said she believes there is room for more food-oriented businesses in downtown Oconomowoc. It would also offer a spot with shade and grass to take a break, whether from work or during a walk around the lake.
Kim Herro acknowledged some nervousness about past plans for the former Enterprise building and neighboring properties, but said they should be trusted to transform the space into something positive for the community that offers something a little different.
An automotive repair business that most recently was the location of a gym next to the market will be turned into a Mexican grocery store by Fernando Varga and Nancy Hernandez.

Oconomowoc, WI (July 2, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash with injuries was reported Tuesday evening at the intersection of Summit Ave (Hwy 67) and Robruck Ln in Oconomowoc. The accident occurred around 4:55 PM and involved significant impact, with airbags deployed in at least one of the vehicles.
First responders from Oconomowoc Fire Department and local EMS units arrived on scene and provided medical attention to the injured parties. The exact number of individuals hurt has not been confirmed, but officials verified that injuries occurred. Whether any of the occupants required transport to a nearby hospital remains unconfirmed at this time.
The crash led to temporary traffic disruptions in the area as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the collision. Summit Ave, also known as Highway 67, is a heavily traveled corridor connecting residential neighborhoods and commercial areas on the city’s west side.
Authorities are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. Contributing factors may include failure to yield, driver inattention, or speed during peak traffic hours.
Our thoughts are with those who were injured, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
Collisions at intersections like Summit Ave and Robruck Ln highlight the dangers of local roadway junctions where traffic from multiple directions converges. With busy commuter routes and residential access points meeting at uncontrolled or lightly controlled intersections, the risk for serious accidents rises—especially during afternoon hours.
Airbag deployment in Tuesday’s crash indicates a significant impact force, which commonly results in injuries such as whiplash, broken bones, or head trauma. Quick EMS response, like that seen in Oconomowoc, is vital for stabilizing victims and minimizing long-term complications.
Victims of intersection crashes often face not only physical recovery but also insurance claims, vehicle repairs, and time away from work. In such moments, reliable information and support are essential to move forward with clarity and confidence.
