What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Watertown restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Watertown, WI, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Watertown, WI
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Watertown, WI (May 22, 2025) – A two-vehicle accident resulting in injuries occurred Wednesday near the railroad tracks on Dayton Street in Watertown. Emergency crews responded promptly to the scene after reports that multiple individuals were hurt in the collision.
According to initial reports, at least two people sustained injuries in the crash. One individual was experiencing head pain, while another reported a possible back injury. Paramedics provided on-site medical attention and assessed the severity of both conditions. The extent of the injuries and whether either person was transported to a hospital has not yet been confirmed.
The crash occurred near a known crossing zone, raising concerns about visibility and the added complexity of navigating near active rail infrastructure. Traffic in the area was temporarily slowed while first responders secured the scene and ensured the safety of those involved.
An investigation is underway to determine what led to the crash. Authorities are reviewing potential contributing factors, including road conditions, driver behavior, and visibility near the tracks.
Our thoughts are with the individuals injured in this accident, and we wish them a full and timely recovery.
Railroad-Adjacent Crashes and Injury Risks in Watertown
Vehicle accidents near railroad crossings and tracks, like the one that occurred on Dayton Street in Watertown, present unique hazards. Reduced visibility, tight turns, and the distraction of nearby rail activity can increase the chances of driver error—especially during busy hours or poor lighting conditions.
Injuries such as head pain and possible back trauma can range from minor to severe, and often require follow-up evaluation even if they appear manageable at the scene. Crashes with these types of injuries frequently involve high-impact or angular collisions, particularly when one or both vehicles are caught off guard by sudden stops or obstructions near the tracks.
Watertown emergency personnel are experienced in responding to incidents in complex traffic zones, including areas near railroads. Their swift intervention can prevent further injury and ensure thorough scene management and medical triage.
For those involved in a crash with possible head or back injuries, early diagnosis and treatment are critical to avoiding long-term complications. Additionally, dealing with insurance claims, medical documentation, and possible liability issues can be overwhelming without appropriate guidance.

Last week, Denver Air Connection, SkyWest Airlines and Air Wisconsin submitted bids to provide air service to Watertown beginning on June 1.
Since 2021, Denver Air Connection has alone offered a dozen nonstop flights to the major U.S. hubs of Chicago and Denver out of Watertown Regional Airport (ATY). The airline's latest bid to open in 2025 included Minneapolis-St. Paul as an additional option.
Under the terms of the next Essential Air Service (EAS) contract, airlines receive federal subsidies to help cover the cost of providing service to smaller airports, like Watertown.
"The decision-making process involves a collaborative effort between myself, the airport board and the city council, which ultimately makes the final decision," Watertown Regional Airport Manager Ian Meriwether told the Public Opinion.
Although any number of airlines could serve the airport, per Meriwether, only a single recommendation is permitted to be submitted to the Department of Transportation (DOT) for EAS air service. An official recommendation must be submitted to the DOT by Feb. 7.
Meriwether says that while the DOT "places significant weight on community recommendations, the final decision rests with them."
Watertown’s service to Chicago and Denver, especially during winter, has become popular, according to airport statistics. Arriving at either location makes the rest of the nation and world reachable, due to interline agreements with United Airlines and American Airlines. These routes will continue for the foreseeable future.
Meriwether said that the general range of travelers at ATY come from a 60–70-mile radius, including people from as far away as Aberdeen, Fargo and Sioux Falls. To top off the appeal, parking is free for both short-term and long-term visitors at ATY.
Operating as United Express, SkyWest Airlines flew to Denver from 2019 until just after Denver Air Connection was selected for a new contract starting two years later.

The accident occurred on May 17 and resulted in injuries to those involved, though the exact number and severity of injuries have not yet been confirmed. Emergency responders coordinated across multiple departments to provide on-scene care and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities. The scale of the response suggests that several individuals may have been affected.
The crash happened at a key junction near the border of Jefferson and Dodge counties, an area often used by both local commuters and regional traffic. As crews worked to clear the scene, portions of Hwy 16 and Hwy 26 were partially blocked, causing delays and detours for motorists in the area.
Authorities have stated that the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.
Vehicle Crashes in Rural Wisconsin
Accidents at highway intersections like Hwy 16/26 and County Rd J highlight both the dangers of rural travel corridors and the importance of mutual aid agreements between Wisconsin emergency services. In more remote areas, rapid emergency response often relies on collaboration between neighboring jurisdictions—especially when incidents involve multiple vehicles or serious injuries.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports that high-speed highway intersections are frequent sites for injury accidents, especially where traffic volumes have increased without significant roadway upgrades. In Dodge and Jefferson counties, state highways like 16 and 26 often intersect with rural county roads that may lack turn lanes, updated signage, or sufficient lighting—all of which can contribute to collisions.
For residents and travelers alike, understanding the risks of these intersections is critical. Crashes in such areas can lead to long delays in emergency medical access, especially when weather or distance slows response times. Victims may face extended recovery periods and substantial medical costs, particularly if serious injuries occur in areas with fewer nearby trauma centers.
After an injury crash, victims should carefully document the incident and seek professional advice to understand their legal rights. Injured parties may be entitled to compensation if the collision was caused by driver negligence, mechanical failure, or roadway design issues.
