What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Fort Collins restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Fort Collins, CO, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Fort Collins, CO

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Fort Collins brewery co-founder makes 2025 Colorado Business Hall of Fame

...

New Belgium Brewing co-founder Kim Jordan will be inducted into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame early next year, The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain announced Tuesday.

She is part of 2025's six-person hall of fame class, representing Colorado’s "most distinguished business leaders from the past and present," according to the chamber. The class will be inducted during the hall of fame's annual dinner in Denver on Feb. 6.

Jordan and her then-husband Jeff Lebesch co-founded New Belgium Brewing out of their Fort Collins basement in 1991, ultimately moving it to its current sprawling facility at 500 Linden St.

Top employers:Here's who makes the list of Larimer County's biggest private employers

Lebesch left the company in 2009 and Jordan stepped down as its CEO in 2015, when she moved into a hybrid role as chair of the brewery's board of directors, according to past Coloradoan reporting. New Belgium Brewing was acquired by international beverage conglomerate Lion Little World Beverages — a subsidiary of Japanese beverage giant Kirin — in 2019.

Jordan is the second Fort Collins businesswoman to make the Colorado Business Hall of Fame in the past two years, joining enterprising Fort Collins pioneer Auntie Elizabeth Stone, who was inducted as part of the 2024 class early this year.

One of the most successful collegiate basketball programs in recent history will regularly be playing in Northern Colorado as the Gonzaga Bulldogs join Colorado State University in the Pac-12.

Gonzaga, located in Spokane, Washington, is one of many schools announcing in the last month that they will be joining the Pac-12 Conference after 2025.

The Zags do not have a football team. However, they do bring two very successful men's and women's basketball programs to the conference.

"Going into the future, from a conference affiliation perspective, it is a big win for everybody," said John Weber, athletic director for CSU.

CSU was among the first schools in the last month to announce they were ditching the Mountain West Conference in order to reform a newly designed Pac-12. Several other Mountain West programs joined CSU in the move including Boise State and San Diego State.

Weber said the addition of a powerhouse sports program into the Pac-12 only underscores how the reformed Pac-12 could become a strong athletics conference in the West.

"Having Gonzaga join the Pac-12, that is an opportunity to highlight what we are trying to achieve. When we look at the opportunity in the western half of the United States to build a conference of significance, this is an essential step in being able to achieve that," Weber said.

Weber said he was optimistic the addition of Gonzaga to the Pac-12 will help them further secure more competitors, helping the conference reach the number of schools needed to compete.

"There are going to be plenty of institutions out there that will be interested in joining what we are building out here. ... It is a great opportunity," Weber said.

The Bulldogs are widely known for having a large following for their sports programs, specifically among basketball fans who will travel to watch games on the road. Weber said he looks forward to hosting the Zags annually at CSU.

"It will most certainly have an impact on Fort Collins and our attendance here at Colorado State. We are excited to host them," Weber said.

CSU, SDSU, Utah State and Gonzaga are among the teams committing to the the PAC-12 who have had nationally-ranked men's basketball programs in the last few seasons.

Weber said he looks forward to seeing the Rams compete with the growing conference, noting the ability to recruit is also improving through strengthened conference play.

"We are very clearly building a powerhouse," Weber said. "Being able to add Gonzaga into that conference is already having impacts on our recruiting discussions. It is certainly an uptick for everyone involved."

The reformed Pac-12 takes shape for the 2026-2027 school year, meaning the Zags will play their first basketball games in Moby Arena in late 2026, or the start of 2027.

You might not realize it without looking at a map, but Fort Collins is surrounded by lakes and reservoirs. One of the state’s most scenic and fish-filled rivers also happens to run through the heart of town. This is good news for locals who want to fish without going very far.

It’s completely possible to fish in town on your lunch break or between classes if you’re a student at CSU. With so many options available, which ones do you choose? The following is a list of recommendations for fishing in and around Fort Collins.

Here are among the best places to fish near Fort Collins, CO, in no particular order:

Sheldon Lake

This spot isn’t quiet, secluded, or remarkably scenic. It is, however, a solid place to fish in the heart of Fort Collins. According to the Rocky Mountain Collegian, bass, trout, and catfish can be found in the modestly sized urban lake set in Fort Collins City Park. Sheldon Lake also under a minute’s walk away from a strip mall with a pet supply store and computer repair shop in case you want to run a couple of errands between casts.

Horsetooth Reservoir

Between its impressive size and scenic backdrop, Horsetooth Reservoir is a gift for Fort Collins residents whether they’re fond of fishing or just like hiking. Shore and boat fishing are options here, and the reservoir offers trout, smallmouth bass, and walleye. During the weekends, everyone wants a piece of this rewarding body of water, so make sure to show up early to claim your spot.

Boyd Lake State Park

In addition to fishing, Boyd Lake offers all sorts of outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping, boating, swimming, and hunting. This lake and surrounding state park press up against residential neighborhoods, making the area easy to access from Fort Collins, but also not a particularly striking spot by Colorado standards. Even so, with walleye, white bass, catfish, and trout to wrangle, it’s a solid spot in Loveland to bring the family and relax.

Watson Lake

This is a nice option if you’re looking to stay close to town but also get a more secluded, scenic experience that lakes closer to Fort Collins can’t give you. Flanking the Cache la Poudre River, Watson Lake is about 20 minutes northwest of town. While this is reportedly an excellent spot for fishing, it’s even better for watching birds like Golden Eagles, White-throated Swifts, and Canyon Wrens.

Douglas Reservoir

This 565-acre reservoir is stocked to the gills with a variety of cold and warm water species, including Sauger, Rainbow Trout, Wiper, and Smallmouth Bass. When conditions allow, ice fishing is permitted. With a flat and mostly treeless terrain, Douglas Reservoir isn’t the state’s prettiest body of water, but it is an excellent fishing spot that’s a quick 20-minute drive north of town.

Poudre Ponds

At Poudre Ponds, bass and rainbow trout are rumored to be plentiful and easy to catch. Located in Greeley 40 minutes southeast of Fort Collins, it’s a great spot to bring kids and inexperienced anglers. This is an easily accessible area with a trail that offers multiple ponds to fish as well as the Cache la Poudre River.

Riverbend Ponds Natural Area

As one of Fort Collins’ favorite places to fish, hike, and birdwatch, the Riverbend Ponds Natural Area is a phenomenal place to get out and enjoy nature without leaving town. The area’s numerous offerings of small ponds are consistently stocked with warm water fish like largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish. With accessible waters and flat, easily manageable hiking trails, this is a prime spot for families and stress-free fishing.

Cache la Poudre River

If you consider yourself a serious fisherperson, make sure to visit this spot if you can only manage to spend time at only one on this list. For starters, the Cache la Poudre River is the only river in the state to have earned a Wild and Scenic River designation from the US National Park Service. Two of its sections have also been officially called Wild Trout Waters by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

To boot, it’s also stunningly beautiful and offers enough space to fish by yourself even during times when anglers are likely to frequent the river the most. There are plenty of places in Fort Collins where you can fish this majestic river, but it gets far prettier and more promising once you leave town and enter the mountains. The Poudre Canyon is about an hour’s drive from town and offers stellar fishing opportunities in one of the state’s prettiest destinations.

Carter Lake Reservoir

From Rainbows to Black Crappie, Carter Lake Reservoir is regularly stocked with rewarding, catchable fish. Located southwest of town, this sizable body of water is home to a marina, and is a great option if you’re looking to rent a boat to boost your chances of catching the reservoir’s biggest fish.

There are also numerous campsites and an RV park to choose from, which is ideal for weekend trips that involve early mornings. And at a manageable 45-minute drive, it’s easy and quick to get to from Fort Collins.

Seaman Reservoir

Known for its impressively sized perch, Seaman Reservoir is a secluded body of water 30 minutes northwest of town. In 2007, the state record for yellow perch was caught here, but there are plenty of other species to be found in these waters as well. In addition to fishing, visitors also flock to Seaman Reservoir to swim, boat, and cliff-jump. Ice fishing is permitted during the winter months, and a fee is required to access the reservoir year-round.

Red Feather Lakes

At just under an hour’s drive from Fort Collins, the Red Feather Lakes area is a gorgeous fishing spot that can be accessed for conventional and ice fishing. However, out of the 30 lakes in the area, only six offer public fishing. These include the Creedmore, Dowdy, Parvin, West, Bellaire, and Lost Lakes.

If you’re fond of trout, this area has you covered with Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Cut Bow, Native Cutthroat, and Splake. The rare Tiger Muskellunge can also be caught here on occasion. Between this area’s beautiful setting, impressive offering of fish, and numerous places to camp, it’s a great day trip or weekend getaway option.

Have fun on your fishing trip near Fort Collins. Remember adults 16+ will need a valid Colorado fishing license in order to fish these waters.
