AMES — Many days in the Iowa State wrestling room, coaches and wrestlers felt like they were seeing double.
Ever since twins Evan and Jacob Frost graduated from Dowling Catholic and made their way to the program, figuring out which brother was which became an impossible exercise. Unless they happen to be wearing different clothes or shoes, virtually the only other way to tell them apart is through weight, with Evan Frost checking in at 133 pounds with Jacob Frost at 141. Even when they wrestle, their skill and style mirror one another.
"If you can tell them apart, give me the secret," Iowa State wrestling coach Kevin Dresser said.
It also doesn't help that they are inseparable. They live in the same place. They wake up, eat breakfast and go to practice together. They take the same exact classes as mechanical engineering majors, meaning there's rarely a moment where the brothers are apart. Even as they grew up with another brother, Cameron, who is two and a half years older, the twins would team up and try to wrestle him.
Last season was one of the very few times the two were pulled apart, as Jacob Frost rehabbed an injury and battled for a spot in the lineup while Evan Frost found his way into the lineup at 133 pounds. That meant that some weekends Evan Frost would travel for an event, while Jacob Frost stayed behind or went somewhere else.
Even so, Evan Frost would log back onto his phone and start sending TikTok and Instagram posts to his brother, along with texting to keep in touch.

"I didn't really need to ask him about what he was doing, I always pretty much knew what he was doing," Jacob Frost joked.
Last weekend at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Wrestling Invitational was the first time fans saw Jacob Frost's talents on a big stage. While he started in two duals last year, this was his first time competing at an NCAA Championship-level of competition.
Evan Frost, who was an All-American last year, did that quote a bit last year. Whether Jacob Frost truly matched his brother's potential was still a question that remained. By taking fifth in Las Vegas, with nearly all of the top-20 teams in attendance, Jacob Frost took a step toward showing that he can match his brother.
"Obviously, he was unranked and I think that fired him up a little bit," Evan Frost said. "To see him go out and get fifth... I think that was really good for him. Especially for the Cliff Keen, to really get his foot out there."
Following that, Jacob Frost cracked the top-20 of Intermat's rankings. While the brothers don't get to see each other wrestle by going back-to-back in the lineup, they could prove to be a nice one-two punch through the rest of the season.
Iowa State wrestling injury updates, Anthony Echemendia out
The Cyclones can't seem to catch a break.
After the season-ending injuries to Casey Swiderski at 141 pounds and Connor Euton at 165 pounds, plus an extensive injury to Yonger Bastida, Anthony Echemendia suffered a high-ankle sprain at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. As a result, he'll be out for four to six weeks, Dresser said Tuesday.
Bastida's knee injury continues to linger too, with his return date being pushed to around Jan. 1. Dresser floated the idea of using a medical redshirt for Bastida should his knee continue to be an issue.
Evan Bockman also suffered a minor injury, and will likely be out "a couple weeks" with Nando Villaescusa listed in the lineup as an OR beside Bockman.
Iowa State's lineup will continue to look a bit different than expected approaching the midway point of the season.

Winter weather is on its way to Iowa, along with subzero windchill temperatures, snow and freezing rain through the rest of the week.
Starting early Tuesday afternoon, parts of western Iowa began seeing snowfall, and the rest of the state isn't far behind. Snowfall is expected across most of the state Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, which could impact the morning commute in the Des Moines metro, according to a weather briefing from the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
The rest of the week is filled with more snow, subzero windchills and rain for most of the state.
The western part of the state is under a special weather statement for scattered snow showers, while the eastern part of the state is under a hazardous weather outlook for incoming wintry weather patterns for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Here's what you need to know about this week's freezing forecast.
What does this week's forecast look like?
Most of Iowa will experience a wintry mix through the rest of the week, ranging from gusty snowfall to freezing rain. Here's this week's weather forecast from the National Weather Service.
Tuesday night: Snowfall is expected to begin around 5 p.m. in central Iowa with a 60% chance of precipitation and winds blowing in from the west. A total of 1 inch of snow or less is expected.
Wednesday: Flurries are expected in the morning but should clear up in the afternoon. A high of 22 and a low of 17 degrees is forecasted but the windchill should be 0 degrees with 17 to 20 mph winds.
Thursday: A 20% chance of snow, primarily in southern and central Iowa, with a high of 18 and a low of 12 degrees.
Friday: Starting in the afternoon, northern Iowa can expect snow, central Iowa can expect freezing rain and snow, and southern Iowa can expect rain. Mostly cloudy with a high of 33 and a low of 28 degrees. The National Weather Service says to prepare for travel impacts across the state.
Saturday: A 30% chance of rain in the morning, mostly cloudy with a high of 38 and a low of 26.
Polk County's severe temperature plan activated through Friday
The Polk County extreme temperature plan was activated Tuesday through Friday.
The extreme temperature plan is activated when temperatures reach 10 degrees with windchill for three or more days, 5 degrees with windchill for two or more days or 0 degrees with windchill for one or more days.
Warming shelters will be available while the extreme temperature plan is active.
The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority provides free rides to warming centers. When you board, tell the driver you need to go to a warming center.

What to drink at Cheba Hut
To the left of the front door, the restaurant offers a bar with alcoholic beverages such as the Hash Can with a mixture of rum, tequila, gin, vodka, blue curacao, house-made sour mix, and Red Bull. The Buzzed Bong Water uses Sailor Jerry spiced rum and blue curacao, lemon juice, and blue raspberry Kool-Aid, topped with lemon-lime soda. Dirty Hippie combines Deep Eddy vodka with muddled cucumbers, and lemonade, topped with lemon-lime soda.
Other options include Pepsi products and Kool-Aid in tropical fruit punch, blue raspberry lemonade, and grape flavors.

Happy hour at Cheba Hut
Every Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., get $1 off the bar menu. Daily specials include Tuesday Industry Night with 25% off alcohol, Friday Hash Can specials for $3 off, and Sunday Gin & Juice or Blazin Marys for $3 off.
The restaurant also offers a patio on the western side of the building.
