What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the New Orleans restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in New Orleans, LA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in New Orleans, LA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Taylor Swift evoked a brief but poignant love letter to the city of New Orleans and the people who live here Friday when she opened the first night of The Eras Tour.

Dressed in a bedazzled silver blazer and matching mini skirt, Swift belted "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince" as she strutted across the stage at the Caesars Superdome.

After following with "Cruel Summer" from her "Lover" album, Swift took a moment to address the more than 65,000 screaming fans chanting every line with her.

In that moment, Swift, 34, explained why she chose New Orleans as one of the last U.S. cities for the tour, which has broken records across the world.

"We've got to end (The Eras Tour) in the most fun cities with the most passionate fans," Swift said. "So, we said we've got to come see you in beautiful New Orleans, Louisiana."

Later in the concert, Swift also acknowledged the inflatable friendship bracelets adorning the outside of the Superdome.

“I showed up one day and you just were trading friendship bracelets ... and now there’s friendship bracelets hanging outside this stadium," she said. "It’s so nice that they did that for us.”

Swift also has another reason to love New Orleans. Her backup dancer, Kameron Saunders, has ties to the city. His younger brother, Khalen Saunders, is a defensive tackle for the New Orleans Saints.

Kameron has catapulted to fame in his own right with his fun interjections during Swift's performances of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." His sassy lines during the New Orleans show Friday night garnered cheers from the audience.

Swift is no stranger to the Crescent City. She celebrated her 33rd birthday here and visited recording studios, saw a show at Preservation Hall and dined at some of New Orleans' most popular restaurants.

The Eras Tour will continue on in New Orleans through Sunday night. Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams is opening for Swift.

(October 30, 2024, NEW ORLEANS, LA) ––The American Nurses Credentialing Center, along with the American Nurses Association and American Nurses Foundation, today kicked off its annual ANCC National Magnet Conference® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® with a press conference and celebration featuring local partners. The 2024 convening brings over 13,000 nurses into Crescent City to celebrate their profession, share knowledge and experiences, and support local communities. This year's agenda features a range of topics from health equity to novel care delivery models to nurse wellness, while the exhibit hall houses the latest in health tech and nurse-led innovations.

In Louisiana, five Magnet-recognized health systems and one Pathway-recognized health system positively impact their surrounding communities by providing safe and culturally relevant care to diverse patient populations in health care settings recognized for excellence. They include:

Press conference speakers highlighted the value of Magnet and Pathway recognition, the significance of this year's conference taking place in New Orleans, and the vital role nurses play in health care. Louisiana partners helped localize the discussion, underscoring the value of nurses in their respective organizations and communities, and the work being done in the state to enhance nursing education and quality patient care.

ANCC Senior Vice President, Accreditation & Organization Credentialing, Rebecca Graystone, PhD, MBA, RN, NE-BC, moderated the kick-off event, which featured representatives from local conference co-host hospital Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans; the Louisiana State Nurses Association; the American Nurses Foundation; and NAMI of Southeast Louisiana, the local charitable partner for the 2024 conference.

Graystone remarked, "Each year our conferences draw thousands of nurses from around the globe to share proven best practices and recognize the healthcare systems and hospitals that have achieved prestigious Magnet and Pathway to Excellence recognition. This year we are excited to welcome our largest number of conference attendees yet –– 13,000+ nurses to New Orleans –– who all understand that being Magnet and Pathway recognized means providing safe, high-quality nursing care in health care settings that value and invest in them."

This year's Magnet and Pathway to Excellence Conference is special for Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans, as it celebrates a fifth Magnet redesignation –– a recognition fewer than 1% of U.S. hospitals achieve. Louisiana now has two hospitals who have achieved Magnet status five times; East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie received its fifth designation in 2022.

"At Ochsner, we are proud of our collective efforts to create a strong, engaged culture where our team members play an active role in shaping our shared future –– it is because our nurses and the ideas they bring to the table, we are able to support and invest in them to ensure we are exceeding the standard in which Magnet recognizes," said Ruth Sagastume, MSN, RN, CPHQ, Chief Nursing Officer, Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans. "We are excited to participate as a co-host hospital this year to support and recognize how ANCC propels the nursing profession and to share more about our nursing philosophy at Ochsner — how it drives our patient care and outcomes and meet with other like-minded nurses from across the country."

Ahnyel Burkes, DNP, RN-BC, NEA-BC, Executive Director, Louisiana State Nurses Association, Louisiana Nurses Foundation, shared, "The achievement of Magnet and Pathway to Excellence designation by Louisiana's hospitals is challenging and worthy work, deserving of our recognition and celebration. The Louisiana State Nurses Association is proud to support nurses in creating inclusive and healthy work environments that value the contributions and excellence of nursing professionals, which is the hallmark of Magnet and Pathway hospitals."

Today was also the launch of the American Nurses Foundation's annual Text to Give campaign, benefitting both the Foundation in its work to support health and well-being programs for nurses and the communities that they serve, and NAMI Southeast Louisiana, an organization of families, friends and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Past giving campaigns have raised more than $50,000 to support local charities in the Magnet and Pathway conference host cities.

The Text to Give campaign is generously supported by three companies –– Fresenius Kabi USA, HD Nursing, and Nurse Math –– which have collectively donated $15,000 in support of the fundraising effort."Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system, delivering exceptional care and advancing healthcare innovation," said Kathy Driscoll, President, Board of Trustees at the American Nurses Foundation. "Your generous support enables the American Nurses Foundation to expand our investment in the well-being and success of all nurses, ensuring they continue to thrive and lead in their vital roles."

"I am grateful to ANCC for bringing more attention to the impact of mental health in our community, region and country," said Nick Richard, Executive Director of NAMI Southeast Louisiana. "We are so grateful for the pivotal role that nurses play in healthcare, especially mental healthcare. Free services, support and resources are only possible because of organizations like yours."
