FARGO, N.D. – No. 7/6 North Dakota (4-2, 1-1 MVFC) fell at No. 2 North Dakota State (5-1, 2-0 MVFC), 41-17, inside the Fargodome on Saturday afternoon. The Bison scored on seven of its 10 drives.
Cam Miller paced the Bison and went 13-for-19 for 168 yards and a pair of scores. He also rushed eight times for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Mekhi Collins was Miller's top target and had three grabs for 47 yards and a 33-yard score, while CharMar Brown led the rushing attack, picking up 83 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts.
Simon Romfo finished the afternoon 18-for-23 through the air for 166 yards and a touchdown. Bo Belquist was UND's top receiver with four grabs for 61 yards and also added a career-best 66-yard punt return in the fourth quarter. Gaven Ziebarth recorded 12 rushes for 65 yards to lead the backfield.
In the game, NDSU had 429 yards of total offense with 221 yards passing and 208 yards rushing. UND accumulated 267 yards of offense, netting 166 yards through the air and 101 yards on the ground.
The Bison led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter before Quincy Vaughn pushed ahead for a one-yard rushing score to bring the tally to 14-7 with 10:38 to go until halftime. C.J. Elrichs also scored in the first half and buried a 45-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 21-10 right before intermission. NDSU led 24-10 at the break.
UND received the kick after the half and had an opportunity to make it a one-score game but a fumble ended that drive and allowed NDSU to lead 38-10 at the end of the third stanza.
Early in the fourth quarter, Belquist had a 66-yard punt return that made it all the way to the NDSU 5. One play later, Caden Dennis hauled in his first career touchdown reception on a five-yard pass from Romfo to make the score 38-17. NDSU added a field goal with 5:58 left in the game to bring the final score to 41-17.
North Dakota will host Northern Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. The game will air on Midco Sports and will be carried on the Fighting Hawks Radio Network.

Measure 4 locks in unfair and unequal subsidies forever. It doesn’t lower the cost of local government one penny – only your local elected officials can do that. However, it will create enormous inequities by freezing local funding statewide at 2024 levels. That will punish communities that have kept their costs and property taxes low, while rewarding cities that have seen the biggest property tax hikes due to uneconomical growth policies and large budget increases.
This is the equivalent of letting some local political subdivisions – cities, park districts, school districts, counties and townships – order steak, lobster and champagne at a fancy restaurant, and then forcing the family who wasn’t invited to dinner but stayed in and cooked a homemade meal to pick up the dinner tab, night after night – forever!

While frustration over the rate of property tax increases in some communities in our state is understandable, this permanent constitutional amendment is not the solution – in fact, it’s a recipe for chaos and guaranteed to create long-term animosities between the haves and have-nots.
Measure 4 is corporate welfare in disguise. One important source of revenue for local communities is property taxes on commercial properties. Large, out-of-state, big-box retailers that require large amounts of infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, sewer and water, will get a free ride on property taxes if Measure 4 passes. So will railroads, airlines, transmission lines, investor-owned utilities or pipelines. Measure 4 is being peddled as the ultimate panacea for homeowners, yet only about one-third of property taxes paid in North Dakota comes from residential properties.
Rural communities would be hit hardest. In many parts of our state, property taxes are the lifeblood of essential services such as rural schools, volunteer fire departments and local infrastructure. Shifting the burden to taxpayers statewide and giving funding authority to decision makers in Bismarck would severely diminish local control and impose more state-level bureaucracy and less flexibility with a one-size-fits-all approach that fails to meet the unique needs of rural North Dakota.
Our state spends billions of dollars every year to offset local costs, and the track record is clear. When state taxpayers subsidize local spending, local spending goes up, not down. The answer is not more taxes at the state level and more subsidies to unchecked local spending. The answer is more local accountability of city, park district and school and county elected officials for their decisions of what they build, where they build it and what level of services they choose to provide.
Measure 4 also invites out-of-state buyers to snatch up North Dakota land for hunting or recreational purposes, or investment purposes, with no property tax obligations to hold them accountable. This will drive up land prices for our existing farmers and ranchers and will devastate our agricultural sector and rural communities that rely on property taxes for basic services.
Measure 4 would undo decades of thoughtful, balanced policymaking in North Dakota.
Measure 4 is built on false promises.
Measure 4 doesn’t lower taxes, it only changes who pays them.
Measure 4 locks in unfair and unequal subsidies.

WEST FARGO — East No. 1 West Fargo Sheyenne got rolling in the second quarter and blanked Bismarck Legacy in an Division AAA quarterfinals game on Friday at Sheyenne High School.
Sheyenne got on the board about five minutes before halftime on Tate Herrman’s 1-yard touchdown run.
In the third quarter, Mustangs quarterback Kaden Olson threw a 22-yard scoring pass to Sullivan Ihry, then Olson hit Caleb Haas for 27 yards and a touchdown six seconds into the fourth quarter for a 21-0 lead. Kye Schlichting capped the scoring with a 22-yard run with 7:48 left in the game.
Legacy ended its season 5-5 overall while Sheyenne improved to 8-2 overall. The Mustangs play host to West No. 2 Bismarck on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals.
Bismarck 42, Fargo Shanley 7
BISMARCK — West No. 2 Bismarck broke open the game with five-straight touchdowns and defeated East No. 3 Fargo Shanley in a Division AAA quarterfinals game on Friday.
Bismarck scored first when quarterback Grady Swanson and Deegan Staudinger hooked up on a 41-yard scoring pass for a 8-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Shanley pulled within one at 8-7 quarterback Jax Mattern’s 23-yard scoring pass to Jake Kraft about 90 seconds later.
But it was all Bismarck after that. Swanson threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Staudinger late in the first quarter and Logan Dockter ran 70 yards for a second-quarter score for a 22-7 lead at halftime.
Swanson and Ross Fischer connected on a 62-yard scoring pass early in the third quarter and Dockter scored on a 21-yard run midway through the third. Westen Malo scored on an 18-yard run with about three minutes left in the game.
Shanley finished the season 3-7 overall. Bismarck is 8-2 overall and plays East No. 1 West Fargo Sheyenne on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals at West Fargo Sheyenne High School.
Minot 23, West Fargo 0
MINOT — West No. 1 Minot took advantage of early West Fargo miscues and cruised to a Division AAA quarterfinals win on Friday.
Bad snaps led to a fumble recovery in the end zone by Minot’s Payton Jolliffe and the Magicians later added a safety for a 9-0 lead in the first 2-1/2 minutes of the game.
Minot’s Noah Bledsoe ran for a 2-yard score in the second quarter, the Magicians’ Kellan Burke scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter.
East No. 4 West Fargo finished the season 2-8 overall. Minot is 8-2 overall and plays Fargo Davies on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals at Duane Carlson Stadium in Minot.
Fargo Davies 35, Mandan 20
FARGO — East No. 2 seed Fargo Davies thumped West No. 3 Mandan in the Division AAA quarterfinals on Friday at Davies High School.
Mandan finished the season 5-5 overall while Davies is now 9-1 overall. The Eagles travel to play West No. 1 Minot in the Division AAA semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8, at Duane Carlson Stadium.

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - As the countdown to the election winds down, Valley News Live is sharing what you need to know about the City of Fargo and North Dakota’s measures.
Last year, Fargo residents said ‘No’ to a $140 million expansion and renovation to the FARGODOME that included a new convention center. The push to renovate the FARGODOME is now Measure 1 on the ballot while a new convention center is Measure 2. To make the new convention center happen, the city would double its lodging tax from 3% to 6%. Those who agree with the measure say the tax will be paid mostly by people staying in local hotels. The goal will also be to create a public-private partnership to develop the center in hopes of bringing more people to the area.
“It would be up to the private developers to find partners and determine what size or kind of hotel, or any other bar, restaurant, or amenity they’d want to include or they think they could include,” said Charley Johnson, the president and CEO of Visit Fargo-Moorhead.
Those against the bill argue it doesn’t matter if it’s out-of-town guests mostly paying the tax.
”I stay at some of the hotels, and I have friends from North Dakota who stay at the hotels. Why should they have to pay?” said one Cass County voter.
Another said: “The lodging tax, I’m not in favor of raising those and I feel like we haven’t really heard a good reason of why we should do that.”
As for the state measure, Measure 2 is looking to modify how people can get an initiated measure onto the ballot. The constitutional change would increase signatures from 4% to 6% of the state population for a ballot initiative to make it onto the ballot. In the end, that’s about 39,000 signatures needed. The measure also narrows the language of a measure to a single subject which would need to pass the primary election and a general election. Currently, the general election is just for constitutional measures.
