WF Sheyenne 28, Bismarck Legacy 0
WEST FARGO — East No. 1 West Fargo Sheyenne got rolling in the second quarter and blanked Bismarck Legacy in an Division AAA quarterfinals game on Friday at Sheyenne High School.
Sheyenne got on the board about five minutes before halftime on Tate Herrman’s 1-yard touchdown run.
In the third quarter, Mustangs quarterback Kaden Olson threw a 22-yard scoring pass to Sullivan Ihry, then Olson hit Caleb Haas for 27 yards and a touchdown six seconds into the fourth quarter for a 21-0 lead. Kye Schlichting capped the scoring with a 22-yard run with 7:48 left in the game.
Legacy ended its season 5-5 overall while Sheyenne improved to 8-2 overall. The Mustangs play host to West No. 2 Bismarck on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals.
Bismarck 42, Fargo Shanley 7
BISMARCK — West No. 2 Bismarck broke open the game with five-straight touchdowns and defeated East No. 3 Fargo Shanley in a Division AAA quarterfinals game on Friday.
Bismarck scored first when quarterback Grady Swanson and Deegan Staudinger hooked up on a 41-yard scoring pass for a 8-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Shanley pulled within one at 8-7 quarterback Jax Mattern’s 23-yard scoring pass to Jake Kraft about 90 seconds later.
But it was all Bismarck after that. Swanson threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Staudinger late in the first quarter and Logan Dockter ran 70 yards for a second-quarter score for a 22-7 lead at halftime.
Swanson and Ross Fischer connected on a 62-yard scoring pass early in the third quarter and Dockter scored on a 21-yard run midway through the third. Westen Malo scored on an 18-yard run with about three minutes left in the game.
Shanley finished the season 3-7 overall. Bismarck is 8-2 overall and plays East No. 1 West Fargo Sheyenne on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals at West Fargo Sheyenne High School.

MINOT — West No. 1 Minot took advantage of early West Fargo miscues and cruised to a Division AAA quarterfinals win on Friday.
Bad snaps led to a fumble recovery in the end zone by Minot’s Payton Jolliffe and the Magicians later added a safety for a 9-0 lead in the first 2-1/2 minutes of the game.
Minot’s Noah Bledsoe ran for a 2-yard score in the second quarter, the Magicians’ Kellan Burke scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter.
East No. 4 West Fargo finished the season 2-8 overall. Minot is 8-2 overall and plays Fargo Davies on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Division AAA semifinals at Duane Carlson Stadium in Minot.
Fargo Davies 35, Mandan 20
FARGO — East No. 2 seed Fargo Davies thumped West No. 3 Mandan in the Division AAA quarterfinals on Friday at Davies High School.
Mandan finished the season 5-5 overall while Davies is now 9-1 overall. The Eagles travel to play West No. 1 Minot in the Division AAA semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8, at Duane Carlson Stadium.

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - As the countdown to the election winds down, Valley News Live is sharing what you need to know about the City of Fargo and North Dakota’s measures.
Last year, Fargo residents said ‘No’ to a $140 million expansion and renovation to the FARGODOME that included a new convention center. The push to renovate the FARGODOME is now Measure 1 on the ballot while a new convention center is Measure 2. To make the new convention center happen, the city would double its lodging tax from 3% to 6%. Those who agree with the measure say the tax will be paid mostly by people staying in local hotels. The goal will also be to create a public-private partnership to develop the center in hopes of bringing more people to the area.
“It would be up to the private developers to find partners and determine what size or kind of hotel, or any other bar, restaurant, or amenity they’d want to include or they think they could include,” said Charley Johnson, the president and CEO of Visit Fargo-Moorhead.
Those against the bill argue it doesn’t matter if it’s out-of-town guests mostly paying the tax.
”I stay at some of the hotels, and I have friends from North Dakota who stay at the hotels. Why should they have to pay?” said one Cass County voter.
Another said: “The lodging tax, I’m not in favor of raising those and I feel like we haven’t really heard a good reason of why we should do that.”
As for the state measure, Measure 2 is looking to modify how people can get an initiated measure onto the ballot. The constitutional change would increase signatures from 4% to 6% of the state population for a ballot initiative to make it onto the ballot. In the end, that’s about 39,000 signatures needed. The measure also narrows the language of a measure to a single subject which would need to pass the primary election and a general election. Currently, the general election is just for constitutional measures.

Nice Barber to open at new location after the new year
FARGO — Nice Barber Co. is reminding customers it will be moving to a new home early next year.
The barbershop announced in October it would be pulling up stakes at 610 N. University Drive in Fargo — where it has been part of Fargo Brewing Company's taproom and event venue for about 3½ years — and relocating to a new spot several blocks south at 1320 1st Ave. N.
In a recent Facebook post, Nice Barber Co. owner Branden Ashmore said the shop's last day at its current location would be Dec. 20 and he said the business would reopen early in the new year in its new location.
"This new spot, our neighbors, and everything about this new location is great and I really look forward to sharing it with all of you! See you very soon and happy holidays!" Ashmore said in the post.
Ashmore's announcement in October that the barbershop would be moving was made amid news that Fargo Brewing Co. was closing its doors for good and would not be operating beyond November.

With the year drawing to a close, the U.S. Department of Labor wants to return $57,865 in wages recovered by its Wage and Hour Division to 145 North Dakota workers.
Workers can check out the "Workers Owed Wages" online tool to find unpaid wages due to them.
Users can use the online WOW tool to search for an employer, followed by the user's name, to see if any unclaimed wages are earmarked for them. Users then submit contact information so they can receive a "back wage claim form and" instructions to receive their wages. A government-issued form of identification is also required. The tool is available in both English and Spanish.

George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” may be one of the best known Christmas songs in the classical music canon, packing a big punch with the joyous “Hallelujah Chorus.” North Dakota State University has made the epic piece a big part of its holiday celebrations.

‘The Winter Wonderettes’

The Wonderettes, the girl vocal group from the popular jukebox musical “The Marvelous Wondrettes,” are back and performing at an office party. When Santa goes missing, the quartet has to step up and save the day. The show features four-part harmony on Christmas classics like “Jingle Bells,” “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” and “Winter Wonderland” sung in the style of a 1960s girl group.

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s arts students and faculty showcase their talents Friday at the Winter Celebration of the Arts. North Dakota State University theater brings back Ken Ludwig’s "’Twas the Night Before Christmas" for another telling of this family favorite. Emily and her best friend Amos, the mouse, are concerned that Santa will skip their house again until an elf shows up to tell them the big man is in trouble. The three must venture to the North Pole to save Santa and get back on the Nice List.

‘Miracle on South Division Street’

The Nowak family of Buffalo, N.Y., has long adhered to “the family miracle,” of how Grandpa saw the Blessed Mother in his barbershop in 1942. When daughter Ruth reveals she plans to make the story a one-woman show, a rift develops in the previously close family. A deathbed confession will either bring the family together or blow it apart in Tom Dudzick’s comic drama.
