CourTney Collins explained:
“My company is NonLinear Knitting, and I am a photographer, director of photography and a video editor, and I am housed inside of NLK Studio,” she said. “So NLK Studio is the brick-and-mortar home to my company, and I share the studio space with Jack Breslin Music. Jack is a musician and audio engineer, as well as my life partner.”
In other words, NLK Studio is a photo and video studio that works with creative people looking to create content.
“Basically,” said Collins, “we film/photograph creatives.”
There’s another important piece at NLK Studio as well: Brian Yost.
“He’s a lighting designer,” noted Collins. “He works essentially in commercials, music, video and television. He does the amazing lighting set-ups that we do at the studio.”
Yost’s recent clients include the likes of Macy’s, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs.
And then there’s “Live at NLK Studio,” the web-series produced by Collins, Mike Kuzan and Breslin. Yost came aboard for Seasons 5 and 6 on light design. Available on YouTube, “Live at NLK Studio” provides musicians with a chance to display what they do best, with professional sound and lighting.
“Mike Kuzan and Jack Breslin focus on the bands and sound, while Brian and I focus on the visuals,” Collins said. “We essentially have the bands do a three-song set, just as if they were performing at a club, straight to camera. And then we edit it and present it at a later date.”
The studio received a boost with an Arts & Culture grant from Jersey City, which allowed the team to have Yost come in as well as raise the overall production design to a higher level.
“If you go back to our early seasons, it’s just literally one camera with no lighting,” Collins said. “Now, we’re using four cameras and all kinds of lighting, and a set build. We’ve been able to up the sets quite a bit, which has been great.”
“Live at NLK Studio” is early into its sixth season, with episodes so far featuring singer-songwriter Brendan Hartnett, the blues-rock combo Mercury Brothers from Asbury Park, and Maidin, the one-named Jersey City songstress who debuted at last spring’s Pushing Up the Daisies Festival.
A “Live at NLK Studio” session might seem intimidating, but, according to Maidin, it proved anything but.
“It’s a true live experience — so we got one chance, one take and then printed it,” she recalled. “Normally that would be an incredibly nerve-wracking experience, but CourTney and Jack are such a supportive and calming presence. And when you have Mike Kuzan as your audio engineer, you automatically know everything’s going to sound absolutely incredible.
“The whole NLK live series is a true creative endeavor, from the set design to the original music. Yet another project that makes the Jersey City music scene so special.”
Next up, Kuzan steps from behind the scenes, performing a “Live at NLK Studio” session as his musical alter ego, Philosopher Pirate. That session is due to be released on Monday, Dec. 16.
In addition to the “Live at NLK Studio” series, Collins, Breslin and other filmmakers have been making short – very short, 3- to 5-minute – horror films as TLBX (pronounced “toolbox”) Pictures that can be seen on the TLBX YouTube page. Collins has another project on tap, working with dancers from ArtHouse Productions. Look for more details in the near future.
“What I would love is for people reading this and potential clients to understand that my crew and myself are bringing our backgrounds from broadcast television, documentary and feature films, commercials, and fashion to create content for artists and small businesses in our community who are making cool stuff,” Collins summarized. “We work with musicians, dancers, writers, restaurants and entrepreneurs to tell their story.”

JERSEY CITY, NJ- Jersey City recently sought to break the stigma against AIDS on World AIDS Day on December 7 with an event seeking to “take collective action” at the City Hall Annex 4 at 39 Kearney Avenue.
The Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services and the Jersey City AIDS Task Force teamed up for the event which offered various giveaways, food distribution, health information, free health screenings, and free COVID-19 and flu vaccines.
Linda Ivory-Green, Director of the Division of Community Health and Wellness within the Department of Health and Human Services and the Coordinator for the Jersey City AIDS Task Force, told TAPinto Jersey City that there exists a network of agencies within the City and Hudson County doing the work to promote information and resources for AIDS preventation and treatment. She said that includes the RWJBarnabas Jersey City Medical Center, the Hudson Pride Center, the Hyacinth AIDS Foundation, Buddies of NJ, Inc., and other organizations part of the AIDS Task Force.

“It’s important because you don’t want people to forget,” Ivory-Green told TAPinto Jersey City. “We want to keep the momentum going because people are still testing positive. And it requires the whole them of collective action. It takes all of us working together, whether it’s policymaking, advocacy, or public-partnerships, to sustain and move this forward.”
Through the event, Ivory-Green wants the City to reach more people while raising awareness for AIDS prevention and treatment. However, the ultimate hope is to end the spread of the virus epidemic.
“We want people to come out,” Ivory-Green said. “The resources are here. Please avail yourself of the resources because they are here. So don’t hide in shame. If you’re positive, come out please. Make sure that you get the resources that are available to you.”
The hope is also to break the stigma that still remains around individuals who test positive for AIDS, Ivory Green said, adding that she wants people living with AIDS in Jersey City to put that aside and claim the resources available to them.
“There are many more resources available now than before, as far as medications,” Ivory-Green said. “People were dying before because of the stigma that was attached to it. There is still a stigma, but please don’t. Please don’t. People are here for you. Please just come out and get tested. Early detection is always important.”

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) Board of Trustees announced it has extended the contract of Interim President Andrés Acebo. The announcement was made on Monday, December 9 during the regular public Board of Trustees meeting on campus after a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees.
Acebo, who has served as Interim President since being appointed to a two-year term on January 17, 2023, has had his contract as Interim President extended for an 18-month period through June 30, 2026, with an option for a one-year renewal through June 30, 2027. The news earned a standing ovation from those in attendance at the meeting.
Luke Visconti, Chair of the NJCU Board of Trustees, said: “Mr. Acebo shares the Board of Trustees’ commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability of NJCU’s mission and delivering best outcomes for students, as we seek a potential strategic partnership with another like-minded higher education institution. We look forward to his continued leadership at a pivotal time in this institution’s 97-year history. We are grateful we can count on his dedication, passion and commitment to the mission of NJCU, as we faithfully work to find a path forward.”
Since taking office in the midst of a financial emergency, Acebo has steered NJCU forward. He has helped orchestrate four major strategic initiatives: the release of the NJCU Recovery and Revitalization Plan (April 2023), introduction of the university's first Academic Master Plan (February 2024) and the institution’s first Strategic Enrollment Plan (April 2023). In December 2024, NJCU unveiled its first-ever Student Development and Community Engagement Strategic Plan.
In February 2024, the university unveiled a refresh of the University Mission Statement and introduced its first ever Vision Statement. Both statements are offered in both English and Spanish, in recognition of the richly diverse community the university serves and as testament to its status as the oldest public four-year minority and Hispanic-serving institution in New Jersey.
Furthermore, Acebo has led to the University's finances being stabilized and the first balanced operating budget since 2017 — less than two years after NJCU reported a $22.7 million deficit. Moody’s agreed, upgrading NJCU’s outlook from “negative” to “stable” in February 2024. In November 2024, Fitch Ratings did the same. This year’s two upgrades in rating and outlook are the first for NJCU in more than a decade.
Acebo's advocacy rallied support for the university from key stakeholders — including the campus and local community, union and local leaders, and legislative champions.
Additionally, he has forged key partnerships with other colleges, highlighted by the Hudson Connect Program with Hudson County Community College, and similar agreements with Essex County College and Mercer County Community College. Furthermore, Acebo has signed key strategic MOUs, including with the NJEA, Hudson Building Trades, GLACO, AFT Local 1839, Jersey City POBA, Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County, Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCCNJ) and Hudson County Latin American Chamber of Commerce (HCLACC).
NJCU’s relationship with the Jersey City Public Schools (JCPS) has never been stronger than during Acebo’s tenure. Notably, NJCU in partnership with the A. Harry Moore Laboratory School launched the A. Harry Moore School Life Independence and Future Transitions (LIFT) in October 2024 on campus in Grossnickle Hall and in November 2024 signed an academic articulation agreement with the Jersey City Board of Education aimed at enhancing the operation of the JCPS Visual and Performing Arts Program.

The project started Nov. 20 and will result in a new 107,100 gross-square-foot self-storage facility at 76 Berlin Road.
