What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Buffalo restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:
Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.
Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.
Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.
Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.
Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Buffalo, NY, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:
Clean Water Damage
This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.
Gray Water Damage
Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.
Black Water Damage
The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:
- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Buffalo, NY
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

Buffalo, Great Lakes region will be blasted with third lake-effect storm in two weeks — expect 10 to 20 inches of snow
FOX Weatherhttps://nypost.com/2024/12/11/us-news/buffalo-great-lakes-region-to-be-blasted-with-third-lake-effect-storm-in-two-weeks/

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A significant storm system moving through the eastern third of the country will help trigger another arctic blast and between 10 and 20 inches of snowfall downwind of the major Great Lakes, as Mother Nature’s version of a snow machine ramps back up for the third time in two weeks.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo said heavy lake-effect snow will bring multiple feet of accumulation east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario through Friday morning. Strong winds will produce near-whiteout conditions at times.
“There will be MAJOR impacts to travel and society during this time,” the agency warned.
The FOX Forecast Center said cold air from Canada is expected to pour over the still-warm Great Lakes, helping to enhance snowfall for communities along the eastern and southern shores of the lakes, starting Wednesday and lasting through Friday.
“On the backside of the Wednesday wallop, we’ve got really cold, blustery air that’s going to be coming its way into the Great Lakes region, and that’s going to allow for the development of some pretty impressive snow bands,” FOX Weather meteorologist Kendall Smith said.
The combination of gusty winds and blowing snow is expected to lead to near-blizzard conditions, especially Thursday when winds peak at 25 to 45 mph.
Interstates such as 90 and 81 in New York are the primary routes that are expected to receive significant snowfall, which is expected to impact travel.
“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” NWS meteorologists warned. “Travel will be very difficult with deep snow cover on roads and very poor visibility. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility.”
Relentless stretch of snow
Since the end of November, more than 70 inches of snow have fallen between Erie, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York, making post-Thanksgiving travel nearly impossible. Snowdrifts of 4 to 8 feet have even caused snow removal crews to get stuck in the winter weather.
Similar conditions were experienced north of Syracuse, New York, where residents spent weeks digging out from feet of snow.
Several deaths were attributed to the event, with health issues related to snow shoveling and vehicle crashes reported throughout the Great Lakes.
A significant warm-up over the weekend and into next week will halt the snow machine, leading to rapidly melting snow, which could cause flooding problems in the medium- and long-term forecasts.
Forecast models show temperatures in the region climbing 10 to 20 degrees by the weekend, which will help to melt any snow that falls over the next few days.

NHL Predictions
Head-to-Head: Rangers 0-1 Sabres
Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: TNT; TruTV; Max
It’s a light night in the NHL, but this carries a lot of weight for these two New York teams. Both the Rangers and the Sabres are limping into this matchup coming into this nationally televised game. These two clubs had differing sets of expectations, but both teams are falling well short of them.
The Rangers and the Sabres are both coming off disappointing performances on Monday night. New York is coming off a lethargic 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. Buffalo lost a 6-5 shootout to the Detroit Red Wings.
Both teams are desperate for victories and need a win in the worst way. Let’s take a look at this important matchup between the Rangers and Sabres in this round of NHL predictions.
The Rangers Story
Igor Shesterkin is expected to get the start, but always check social media before locking in a fantasy starter. New York is 2-8 in the last 10 games and have dropped two in a row. The offence dried up in the last game and head coach Peter Laviolette was displeased with his club after Monday’s loss.
New York was routed the last time the two teams played on November 7 when Buffalo rolled to a 6-1 victory. The Blueshirts will have to be much better in order to finally avenge one of the team’s most-embarrassing losses of the season.
Adam Fox has 22 assists so far for the Rangers. Artemi Panarin has been consistent most of the season and has scored five goals with five assists over the last 10 games.
The Sabres Story
As bad as things are for the Rangers, they’re much worse for the Sabres. Buffalo did put up a ton of goals against Detroit. However, the team has still lost seven in a row.
The Sabres had come into this season with some promise, but it seems that the club is failing at all levels. Buffalo General Manager Kevyn Adams had a disastrous press conference last week complaining about taxes and palm trees.
Jason Zucker has been a bright spot with seven goals and 13 assists for the Sabres. Tage Thompson has continued his strong play during the season with six goals over the last 10 games.
The days of ties are over, so there must be a winner. Buffalo did look better in the first meeting of the season, but New York is a better team on paper.
There also should be some motivation after Laviolette called out his club in the media.
Prediction: Rangers win 4-2.
We round out NHL predictions with some prop bets. On the Rangers side, go with Vincent Trocheck as an anytime goalscorer at +220 at FanDuel. For Buffalo, take Alex Tuch to score at any time at +240. This is also via FanDuel.

Aaron's Wednesday update:
The lake effect snow band will develop south of Buffalo early this afternoon. It will strengthen tonight and head northward.
The band will be near Buffalo overnight through early Thursday morning. Lake effect will stretch from Buffalo to the Airport to Batavia southward to start the day.
The band will shift south late Thursday morning and back north Thursday afternoon. The band then moves south early Friday and stays over the Southern Tier before fading out.
In the band, snow rates will be 2-3" per hour and winds will gust near 45 miles per hour. This will cause whiteout conditions and make for treacherous travel in and near the lake band.
Original story:
A very cold air mass will spill across Western New York on Wednesday afternoon. Rain will change to snow on Wednesday and the lake effect snow machine will fire up. Lake Erie is 43 degrees which is 2 degrees above normal.
The heaviest snow will be along the Chautauqua Ridge to the Southtowns. The band will fluctuate a bit on Thursday, but the heaviest snow will be just south of Metro Buffalo. South Buffalo will once again see more snow than North Buffalo. The strongest part of the band could produce a snow rate near 3"/hour.
Winds will be strong pushing the lake band further inland toward Genesee and Wyoming Counties. Temperatures will be in the 20s with winds gusting near 40 miles per hour. These strong winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow, with wind-chills near 0.
Expect some school closings and school activity cancellations Thursday. Our weather team will continue to update this story as new data arrives.
