After an exciting regular season from which three Akron-area teams emerged with unbeaten records, the 2024 postseason opens at 7 p.m. today for 19 local teams in first-round OHSAA playoff games. Seeds 1-8 are the home teams.
Leading that group is the Akron area's only No. 1 seed — Walsh Jesuit (10-0), also the top team in the final USA Today Network Ohio Super 25 Poll. The Warriors are heavy favorites against Willoughby South (3-7).
Also in action are No. 2 seeds Archbishop Hoban (8-2), which will play Firestone (5-5); Suburban League National Conference champion Highland (10-0), which will meet Fremont Ross (5-5); and Principals Athletic Conference champion Manchester (9-1), which will play Youngstown Liberty (5-5).

AKRON, Ohio — Eddies Famous Cheesesteaks on South Main Street in Akron had a special surprise Thursday when actor Kiefer Sutherland stopped by their restaurant.
“What a day! Hollywood meets Eddies on Main Street. Kiefer Sutherland was passing through Akron and somehow ended up at Eddies,” according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The post also says Sutherland “absolutely loved his Eddie’s experience.”
The restaurant tells 3News that Sutherland's appearance "got quite the social reaction," while adding he posed for pictures and autographed some Eddies gear.
