What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the St. Petersburg restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in St. Petersburg, FL, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in St. Petersburg, FL

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

The family behind the popular Taste of Punjab Indian restaurant in Largo has expanded to downtown St. Petersburg with a new restaurant serving traditional Indian dishes.

A few days ago, owners Rajinder Singh (also head chef) and Inderjit Kaur quietly opened Malai Indian Cuisine at 437 Central Avenue. The space was formerly home to Tropez which closed earlier this year.

“We love Largo, but we have so many customers asking us to bring our Indian food to St. Pete and this is the perfect space,” the owners said to St. Pete Rising.

While Singh owns Paste of Punjab with another partner, Malai Indian Cuisine is a separate business that Punjab independently owns and is not considered a sister restaurant.

Named after malai, a type of heavy cream used in Indian cooking, Malai Indian Cuisine carries a similar menu to Taste of Punjab with popular dishes like butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, and more.

Although not currently available, Malai will eventually add a buffet.

The appetizer menu, which is split between vegetarian and non-vegetarian offerings, features a variety of Indian street food items like samosas, chaats, and pakoras.

Unique to the St. Pete location are the Chili Chicken Wings and Gobi Manchurian, which is breaded cauliflower that’s been fried and tossed in a chili garlic sauce.

Malai also has a menu of ten types of Tandoor bread, a type of flatbread that's a staple of South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines, such as Chicken Tikki Naan stuffed with homemade cottage cheese and Peshavari Naan, which is filled with a blend of cashews, raisins, coconut, and cherries.

The main plates include traditional dishes such as biryani, which is a seasoned and spiced mixed rice dish with meat (chicken, goat, lamb, beef, and shrimp), and different curry entrees made with korma (a creamy cashew sauce), tikka masala (a tomato sauce with bell peppers and onions), and vindaloo (a spicy curry sauce).

The majority of entrees are priced between $15 to $20.

Diners looking for something sweet after their meal can indulge in one of Malai's desserts such as the traditional gulab jamun, which are spongey milk balls soaked in warm sweet syrup and garnished with coconut, or mango and pistachio-favored kulfi “ice cream.”

The bar serves beer and wine and authentic non-alcoholic Indian drinks like masala chai, a beverage made by brewing black tea with fragrant spices, sugar, and milk; and mango lassi, a sweet chilled mango-flavored yogurt drink.

“We are focusing on delivering the highest quality, serving food on time and with the right pricing,” the owners said.

Malai Indian Cuisine is now open at 437 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete.

Sunshine City Tavern, which will pay homage to the history of St. Pete, will be located at 4351 4th Street North, most recently home to Oaks on 4th which closed in late 2023.

The tavern will be a dream realized for Dorsey, who has wanted to open a neighborhood bar in St. Pete for 20 years.

“In my early years, I wanted to be bougie and pretentious, but as life changes and as I grow older, I’ve realized that I just want to put out amazingly delicious food that makes people happy,” said Dorsey, who has helped open some of the area’s most popular restaurants including Sonata, The Mill, Ciro’s, Boca, and Copperfish.

“What excites me about this concept is it will be a throwback to an era where people felt like they belonged and were able to let life slip away for a moment or two,” said Dorsey. “Think of it as a modern-day Harvey’s.”

The interior of the 3,500-square-foot tavern will be a mash-up of “Saved by the Bell meets Vice City,” according to Dorsey, evoking a sense of the 1990s era while also incorporating a taste of old St. Pete.

Dorsey doesn't want to reveal too much of what he will whip up in the kitchen but said everything will be made in-house.

There will be a huge smoker in the back and a meat carving station in the dining room, which will feature the daily special. For instance, Friday’s special will always be a smoked prime rib plate that will be available for lunch and dinner.

“I've incorporated a fair amount of barbeque into the menu without it becoming a smokehouse,” Dorsey said. “I want to have fun with food again and do more slow cooking with a focus on flavor more so than presentation.”

The inclusion of barbeque at the tavern is also a nod to the previous restaurants that have occupied the space, including Fred Fleming's Famous Bar-B-Que, Luckie B's Bar-B-Que, and Quickies Scratch BBQ.

In addition to barbeque, Dorsey is also working with a local seafood purveyor to serve fresh fish.

One of the appetizers will be a house-smoked amberjack fish spread.

Also on the menu will be Crispy Florida Gator Bang Bang with a Pineapple Jalapeño Slaw, which Dorsey served at this year’s Frogman Feast supporting the Navy SEAL Foundation. He will donate a portion of the proceeds from each dish sold to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

As for drinks, there will be a full liquor bar that will have the “most aggressive happy hour in the city,” Dorsey promises.

The tavern will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and will offer a robust brunch menu on the weekend including ten of Dorsey's award-winning dishes.

Sunshine City Tavern will also offer family meals to-go for two, four, or six people featuring the daily special, salad, sides, and dessert. Customers can call ahead and use the building’s drive-thru window to pick up their family meal on the way home.

It may surprise people that Dorsey is opening a casual restaurant. After all, he’s made a name for himself helming some of the area’s best fine dining establishments. For Dorsey, it’s a culmination of long-time pursuits: build a legacy for his kids and work with his friend and fellow restaurant lifer Teddy Skiadiotis.

“This is going to be a sanctuary for me and my children. This is where I'm going to retire,” Dorsey said. “And I’m so excited to finally have an opportunity to work with Teddy after 12 years of friendship.”

Skiadiotis, who owns Craft Kafe and is a co-owner in Sunshine City Tavern, shares Dorsey’s enthusiasm. “I’ve wanted to work with Ted for years, but our timing has never been right. The stars really aligned on this one for us.”

The building is undergoing renovations including exterior painting, signage, kitchen construction, and a new bar top.

The work is expected to wrap up in December in time for a January 2025 opening.
