What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Bakersfield restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Bakersfield, CA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Bakersfield, CA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- In more than 50 years of wrestling, Cal State Bakersfield has a rich history, winning two NCAA Division II titles and producing 45 Division I All-Americans, a list highlighted by two-time national champion and Dan Hodge Trophy winner Stephen Neal. CSUB's third-place finish in the 1996 D-I nationals is still the highest finish by a college from California.

After a few lean years coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Roadrunners and sixth-year coach Luke Smith are confident they have a squad that can compete at the highest level — not only this year — but for the foreseeable future.

"I think the future is bright," said Smith, whose squad opens the season with a pair of duals at Stanford on Friday, first against Utah Valley at 3 p.m., and then against the nationally-ranked Cardinal at 7. "I think these guys have an opportunity to do some special things this year."

CSUB will rely on a deep squad, enhanced by the addition of a pair of transfers, AJ Ferrari from Oklahoma State and Gerrit Nijenhuis from Oklahoma.

Ferrari, a redshirt sophomore, captured the national championship at 197 pounds as a true freshman for the Cowboys in 2021. He was 10-0 and the concensus #1 wrestler in the country to start the 2021-22 season before being injured in an automobile accident.

"He is so unbelievably disciplined with his diet and training, and he does all these little things," said Smith of Ferrari. "He's very detail oriented on some of those preparation things. And he's, he's very excited to go back out there."

This weekend's matches will be Ferrari's first official in nearly three years, a layoff that has some interested to see if the Texas native can return to form, according to Smith.

"I think a lot of people are still wondering whether he is still that guy, and wanting to see what version of him that he's going to be," Smith said. "But I think that's a lot of motivation for him. He loves to wrestle, he loves to compete, and he's very excited for the opportunity to go out and show that he still is that guy. And we're excited for him."

Smith has been impressed with the 197 pounder during his preseason workouts and is looking forward to seeing Ferrari's return to the mat.

"He's an extremely rare type of athlete, especially for his size, but he also has toughness and grit," said Smith of Ferrari, who is ranked the No. 12 pound-for-pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him No. 4 in the 197 pound weight class. InterMat ranked Ferrari No. 1 at 197. "Sometimes, those guys who are good athletes, things come easy for them, when things get hard, they kind of will fold where, you know, the year he won NCAA, he won a lot of matches where they weren't the prettiest wins, but he just out-fought the other guy."

There are also high expectations for Nijenhuis, a three-time national qualifier. He qualified at 165 and 174 pounds at Purdue and then again at 165 in 2022-23 at Oklahoma State. He wrestled at 174 last season for the Sooners, and is expected to do the same this season for the `Runners.

"Garrett is a great technician," Smith said. "He's very good technically. He's really good on top, and one of the most talented wrestlers I've seen as far as his straight ability. We just need to get him more consistent with some things and I think he can do really well this year, too."

Smith expects the tandem of Ferrari and Nijenhuis to have a positive effect on his returners this season.

"I think it's very important to have guys that have been there, they've done it and they've had that success," Smith said. "So I think it's good for some of our guys around their weights to feel that and be able to test themselves with those guys. And it's even good for some of our younger guys, to watch them and see what they do technically, and even pick up some other habits that will help them try to get to the start, to get to the level of success that they had as well."

Seven consistent starters returned from last season's lineup, giving CSUB a battle-tested lineup: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Santino Sanchez (133), Brock Rogers (149), Devyn Flores-Che (157), Guillermo Escobedo (165), Braden Smelser (184) and Jake Andrews (HWT). FloWrestling ranks the Roadrunners No. 27 as a team, while InterMat has the Roadrunners at No. 22.

"There's definitely potential there," Smith said. "We are definitely capable of winning a national title, but there's a lot of time from now to March, so that's where we're just kind of taking it opportunity by opportunity, and trying to learn and improve, to keep working, to get to get better for March."

In addition to the returning starters, Smith believes senior Romeo McNeal (133), redshirt freshman Haydin Zinkin (141) and freshmen Evan Manzo (165), Jaxtyn Frost (141) and Josiah Sandoval (125/233) could also make an impact.

It all starts this weekend, giving Smith an opportunity to get a better look at his squad against other competition.

"It's going to be a tough one out of the gate," Smith said. "Stanford is pretty solid, up and down the lineup, and Utah Valley made good additions to their program, as well. They have a new coach and have some good transfers coming in so they're going to be a much-improved team."

CSUB will follow up the duals at Stanford with the Menlo Open in Atherton on Saturday. Bakersfield's first home match comes later in the month when they host the Roadrunner Open on Nov. 24.

"So I think that's the big thing early in the season is you're not trying to look too far ahead," Smith said. "Just kind of being in the moment and trying to get a little bit better every day and keep putting out the best version of ourselves. We're not focusing on whether they win or they lose, just looking for constant improvement and getting better."

Best Internet Providers in Bakersfield, California

Internet in Bakersfield is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, 100% of residents have access to a plan with at least 100Mbps download and 20Mbps upload speeds -- the Federal Communications Commission’s proposed minimum for broadband -- and it’s one of the top 50 cities in the country by median speed.

But most Bakersfield residents still don’t have much of a choice when it comes to high-speed internet. While AT&T Fiber is now available to around one in five households, Spectrum is the only option in many neighborhoods. Wireless providers like T-Mobile and Verizon also offer home internet plans now, but their speeds tend to fluctuate more than wired connections.

On the bright side, in 2022 the Bakersfield City Council approved a deal with SiFi Networks to build and maintain a fiber network along every street in the city at no cost to taxpayers. SiFi would then sell network access to private internet providers. According to a presentation given to the Board of Supervisors, residents would pay about $60 each month for 10,000Mbps. For comparison, AT&T currently charges $245 for 5,000Mbps. The project is currently in the design phase, with no clear timetable yet for construction.

Best internet options in Bakersfield

CNET examines customer service, speed, pricing and overall value before recommending the best broadband in your area. For a long time, Spectrum was essentially the only option for high-speed internet in Bakersfield. Then, in 2015, AT&T agreed to expand its fiber-optic network to 20 new metro areas within four years as a part of its deal to buy DirecTV. In 2017, AT&T Fiber officially launched in Bakersfield, immediately becoming the city's best internet option. It's currently available to 79% of Bakersfield households.

Note: The prices, speeds and features detailed in the article text may differ from those listed in the product detail cards, which represent providers’ national offerings. Your particular internet service options -- including prices and speeds -- depend on your address and may differ from those detailed here.

What other internet options are there in Bakersfield?

We think the three providers highlighted above are your best options for internet in Bakersfield, but there are a few other ISPs you can consider:

Pricing details on Bakersfield home internet service

Bakersfield residents can expect to pay between $50 and $90 a month for internet service, which is about average for cities across the country. That said, there is a lack of truly cheap internet plans in the city, with starting prices around $50 monthly.

Fastest internet plans in Bakersfield

There are only two providers offering gig speeds -- download speeds reaching 1,000Mbps -- but they are both good options. AT&T’s fiber plans go all the way up to 5,000Mbps, which is far more than most people need, but it’s a nice option for ultra-connected smart homes. While Spectrum’s download speeds reach 1,000Mbps, households that do a lot of working from home or gaming might run into issues with its 35Mbps upload speeds.

How CNET chose the best internet providers in Bakersfield

Internet service providers are numerous and regional. Unlike the latest smartphone, laptop, router or kitchen tool, it's impractical to personally test every internet service provider in a given city. What's our approach? For starters, we tap into a proprietary database of pricing, availability and speed information that draws from our own historical ISP data, partner data and mapping information from the Federal Communications Commission at FCC.gov.

It doesn’t end there: We go to the FCC’s website to check our data and ensure we consider every ISP that provides service in an area. We also input local addresses on provider websites to find specific options for residents. We look at sources, including the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, to evaluate how happy customers are with an ISP's service. ISP plans and prices are subject to frequent changes; all information provided is accurate as of publication.

Once we have this localized information, we ask three main questions:

While the answers to those questions are often layered and complex, the providers that come closest to "yes" on all three are the ones we recommend. When selecting the cheapest internet service, we look for the plans with the lowest monthly fee, although we also factor in things like price increases, equipment fees and contracts. Choosing the fastest internet service is relatively straightforward. We look at advertised upload and download speeds and consider real-world speed data from sources like Ookla and FCC reports. (Ookla is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)

To explore our process in more depth, visit our how we test ISPs page.

What’s the final word on internet providers in Bakersfield?

Bakersfield residents aren’t exactly swimming in great options for internet, but all residents have access to at least one provider offering 100/20Mbps speeds -- the new minimum broadband speed proposed by the FCC. While AT&T Fiber is by far the best choice in the city, not all residents have access to their fiber plans. However, Spectrum and T-Mobile are both good backup options.
