What is a thermal imaging camera used for in water damage?

Thermal imaging cameras detect surface temperature differentials, revealing evaporative cooling from wet materials behind finishes. Used during water damage mitigation to locate hidden moisture in wall cavities, ceilings, and under flooring. Does not directly measure moisture — must be confirmed with a calibrated moisture meter. Per IICRC S500 §12.2.
