What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Tucson restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:
Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.
Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.
Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.
Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.
Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Tucson, AZ, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:
Clean Water Damage
This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.
Gray Water Damage
Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.
Black Water Damage
The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:
- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Tucson, AZ
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Pizza, Chinese food, groceries... all available for delivery in our modern age. Now, add recreational marijuana to that list.
Arizona made history November 1, becoming just the seventh state to offer recreational marijuana delivery.
Earth’s Healing, a Tucson-based dispensary, made the area's first recreational marijuana delivery to a midtown home, just after 9 a.m.
After extensive preparation, the dispensary launched the service to cater to a broader audience, including individuals who may prefer discreet or convenient access to cannabis.

Mike Shew, Operations Manager at Earth’s Healing, emphasized the importance of the new service.
“We've been waiting for this day for a while. Adult-use deliveries are finally here, ” he said.
The dispensary previously offered delivery services for medical marijuana but expanded its operations to meet recreational demand.
“We’re ready to deliver to people who might not be able to come in one way or another,” Shew added.
The new delivery service is designed with specific customer groups in mind. Shew expects to see demand from those seeking discretion, such as teachers or medical professionals who might not want to be seen in dispensaries.
It also could benefit elderly customers who may find it challenging to visit in person.
Earth Healing's delivery service aims to reach underserved parts of Tucson and surrounding areas, including Oro Valley, Marana, Green Valley, and Vail.
“We moved all of our deliveries to our South location to create a hub, making us readily available to deliver to people across Tucson,” Shew said.
For Caitlyn Cox, Tucson’s first recreational marijuana delivery customer, the experience was seamless.
“I placed the order on my app. Fifteen minutes later, you guys came knocking on my door, and I have weed for the day,” Cox said.
She praised the convenience, noting the process allowed her to browse products, view sales and place an order with ease.
“I think delivery is going to change the game,” she said.
Arizona joins a small number of states that includes California, Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Michigan and Massachusetts that allow recreational marijuana delivery.
In California, delivery services are widespread, with companies like Eaze offering extensive product selections statewide.
Colorado has also allowed delivery but has restrictions on the amount drivers can carry. Arizona’s regulations are similar, setting a $10,000 product limit per vehicle and requiring lockboxes and onboard cameras for security.
Customers can place orders by phone or online, depending on the dispensary. Earth’s Healing offers both options and has waived delivery fees through the end of 2024.
“It’ll be a free delivery up until 2025,” Shew said, adding that customers can even receive a free product, such as a pre-roll or an edible, on their first delivery.
“We want to be there for our customers, grow with them, and be their delivery service now and in the future,” Shew said.
With eight vehicles in their fleet, Earth’s Healing is prepared for the demand that Shew anticipates will only increase as more customers seek convenience and privacy in their cannabis purchases.

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A group new to Arizona is trying to entice people to vote on Election Day by bringing music to the polls.
“Our motto is, turn on the music, turn out the vote. We want you there. We want your vote. We want you to participate,” Arizona Program Manager for DJs at the Polls Kaycee Campbell said.
The non-profit group is sending hundreds of DJs to polling locations throughout Election Day at nearly every polling location.
Adrian Ramirez, a Tucson DJ, is one of those hired to play. Ramirez usually DJs at weddings and bars but his new gig is one he said will be an unusual but rewarding experience.
“I think keeping it still lively and fun, you know, as divisive as our decisions are, I think at the end of the day, we’re going to relate to something as great as a song,” Ramirez said.
The nonprofit has been running on the East Coast since 2008 but recently expanded to Arizona.
“Make no mistake about it, we’re here because it’s a swing state, and because it’s a swing state, it is more important than ever for every single person to vote, and we want everybody to vote,” Campbell said.
Campbell said hundreds of DJs jumped at the opportunity, so much so they had to turn people away because there weren’t enough polling locations.
“In Arizona alone, we have about 1,050 polling locations where we’ll have voters or have DJs at the polls, and then about 635 DJs,” Campbell said.
It’s a unique venue for DJs to show off their art, but DJs like Ramirez said the goal is to create a calm environment and get more people out to vote in this crucial election.
“You have to also, you know, be a curator, a host, and that’s kind of what I’m going to be, and try to bring people in, if I can get the opportunity to be close enough to be involved,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez said it also gives more attention to local artists.
“You get the right playlist, and you know, they’ll want to contact you the next day for a gig and that was one thing I said was I wanted to start promoting myself,” Ramirez said.
While the music might not be something people are expecting, especially in the early hours of Election Day, these DJs hope they can make a difference in voter turnout.
“We want to make sure that people are enjoying themselves and we’re not becoming a nuisance,” Campbell said. “Our whole point is just to get people to vote, whether you vote for one person or another. It doesn’t matter to us. We just want you to take part.”
Campbell said there should be a DJ at every polling location but sets will only last around three hours. The DJs will stay the 75 feet away from locations and be playing family-friendly music with no political message.

Tucson is now home to Arizona’s largest outdoor mural and it’s as beautiful as you could have guessed.
The mural, painted by local artist Jessica Gonzales, spans 26,000 square feet and was confirmed by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) to be the largest outdoor mural in the state.
The vibrant desert-themed mural, dubbed “Sonoran Skylines,” was painted at Park Place Mall, 5870 E. Broadway, on the west side of the movie theater. Gonzales was selected to create the mural after Park Place Mall launched a call-to-artists, asking local muralists to submit their designs.
“I wanted the artwork to convey the impact of standing before a majestic saguaro,” Gonzales said in a press release. “Tucson is a renowned destination for mural art and I’m honored to contribute a piece that showcases our desert’s beauty on such a large scale.”
Art has always been part of Gonzales’ life, from drawing as a kid to taking advanced art classes in high school to studying art at the University of Arizona. She started her mural journey in 2016 and became a full-time muralist in 2019. It’s very likely that you’ve seen her work splashed across The Loft Cinema, The Tuxon, Antigone Books and many other buildings across our favorite desert city.
“The challenge of creating something small — a design in a small format and then getting that image up on a large wall — there's a sort of problem-solving to that with such a big payoff,” Gonzales told #ThisIsTucson in 2021. “I kinda like the technical side of it. I like figuring out how to create something that fits well with its environment.”
The mural was officially unveiled on Saturday, Nov. 2 during SAACA’s inaugural Park Place Street Art Festival that included a community ofrenda, face painting, live music and interactive chalk art installations.
“We’re excited to support our local art community in a meaningful way and enhance the beauty of our center with this incredible piece,” Brighid Dawson, Park Place’s general manager, said in the press release. “This mural is a testament to the talent and creativity of our community and will be a wonderful addition to Tucson’s cultural landscape.”
