What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Philadelphia restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Philadelphia, PA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Philadelphia, PA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

LEVITTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- The last day to request a mail-in ballot is next Tuesday in Pennsylvania.

With only 13 days until Election Day, county officials in our region are working to alert voters with flawed mail-in ballots.

While not every county in the commonwealth does outreach, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Philadelphia and Delaware counties do alert voters who made mistakes and encourage them to correct them by reaching out to their county election office to follow the proper steps.

Live updates on the 2024 presidential election

Each county is different in how they fix or curate the ballots. Some tell voters to cancel their ballot and request a new one. Others want voters to come in person to make the correction.

It's best to contact your election officials with questions.

Montgomery County Commissioner Neil Makhija serves as the Chair of the Board of Elections.

"If there is any problem with the ballot we identify it immediately," said Makhija.

Makhija says they are on track for a record voter turnout.

Montgomery County voters with flawed mail-in ballots will get alerted by mail, phone, and email, according to Makhija.

"We also publish a list online that lists right now 350 ballots that have issues. People can request a ballot on the spot and submit it. That's never been the case before when we have this many options," said Makhija

These are the numbers of flawed mail-in ballots per county in Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Many voters are opting to cast their mail-in ballots in person or on-demand, where they request, fill out and return the ballot all at once instead of using satellite offices or drop boxes.

Hundreds have been showing up to county offices in Bucks County since mail-in ballots arrived. The lines outside of a Doylestown and Levittown location were long.

"We only have a certain number of computers to operate and a certain number of people who are full-time employees and trained," said Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie, who chairs the Board of Elections.

"This process of doing the on-demand in person here or in Levittown is one of the slower ways," Harvie added.

PHILADELPHIA — U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 114 pounds of marijuana from two women traveling from Philadelphia to London this week.

According to federal authorities, Anetta Rachell Collins, 49, of Ventura, California., and Ty Taanetia Anettra Angel Mason, 24, of Las Vegas, Nevada, were charged with felony possession with intent to distribute after the discovery Tuesday.

While inspecting bags being loaded onto a London-bound flight, found a green leafy substance in vacuum-sealed bags in four soft-sided suitcases, authorities said.

Two-year-old narcotics detector dog Fredo alerted officers to the contents of the vacuum-sealed bags.

Customs officers at the departure gate identified the travelers associated with the baggage and escorted them back to an inspection station.

Find out what's happening in Philadelphiawith free, real-time updates from Patch.

There, officers found 102 vacuum-sealed bags, and the contents field-tested positive for marijuana.

The combined marijuana weighed 51.7 kilograms, or 114 pounds. It has a street value of about $580,000 in Philadelphia. Depending on potency, the value could double or triple in London.

Agents from the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, working on Homeland Security Investigation’s Border Enforcement Security Task Force, took custody of Collins, Mason, and the marijuana.

Authorities said this follows a continuing trend of United States-based growers and retailers shipping marijuana to Europe and Africa, where high-quality weed can fetch prices much higher than in the U.S.

Customs officers usually see the marijuana exported in smaller packages, but sometimes find travelers carrying marijuana-stuffed suitcases.

"Bulk marijuana smuggling is illegal, and Customs and Border Protection will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to hold smugglers accountable," Cleatus Hunt, CBP’s Area Port Director for the Area Port of Philadelphia, said. "Travelers who gamble with their freedom by smuggling bulk amounts of marijuana for a little extra cash may find themselves on the losing end of that proposition."

The answer to the following question will have you hoping for cold November rain.

When was the last time Philadelphia went an entire month without rain?

Never on record, says the National Weather Service office in Mt. Holly, New Jersey.

"8 of our 9 climate stations are on track to experience their driest calendar month on record," the weather service said in an X post. "Philadelphia, Trenton, Wilmington, and Georgetown have not received any measurable rainfall this month, not even a trace at Philadelphia."

8 of our 9 climate stations are on track to experience their driest calendar month on record. Philadelphia, Trenton, Wilmington, and Georgetown have not received any measurable rainfall this month, not even a trace at Philadelphia. A look at the driest months on record. ???? (1/2) pic.twitter.com/FbOMcmjLab

— NWS Mount Holly (@NWS_MountHolly) October 22, 2024

Interestingly enough Octobers make up 3 of the Top 10 driest months recorded in Philadelphia, dating back to the 1880s.

That's right. If this dry stretch that's been causing leaves to brown prematurely and lawns to become hard and brown keeps going, we will be in unprecedented territory.

Our warm, dry weather is resulting in very rapid progress from summer to winter as far as vegetation goes. These two photos were taken just 4 days apart. Quite a change in such a short time! Get out and enjoy the colors while they're here, they'll be gone in a flash. pic.twitter.com/0cJ46wQTNU

Record days without rain

By the end of Wednesday, the precipitation-less streak will reach 25 days.

Unfortunately, there aren't many chances for any rain to fall on the region in the next week or so as drought conditions become worse. The record for rainless days is 29 and was set in 1874, NWS said.

The only chance for rain in the 10-day forecast is early on Saturday with a 20% chance for scattered showers. With a mainly dry front coming through, these possible showers will not help much at all.

If we do see measurable rain at Philadelphia International Airport, then we won't break the record.

It is so dry in the region that parts of the Pine Run Reservoir in Doylestown, Buck County, have dried up entirely.

The water receding at the Manasquan Reservoir in Farmingdale, New Jersey, is increasingly visible.

The place that has the longest record of no rain in our region is Allentown. The record was set back in 1924 with 42 days without rain.

Atlantic City, New Jersey, set their record back in 1995 at 39 days with no rain.

Fire weather watch

Our entire region is under a fire weather watch. There hasn't been much wind recently, but it is starting to pick up as several weak fronts move through.

Currently, there are two active wildfires in the state of New Jersey: one at Wharton State Forest and the other is on the ground at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

A Red Flag Warning was issued for southern New Jersey that will go into effect Thursday morning at 11 a.m. A red flag warning is the highest level of concern for fire potential.

Thursday, Oct. 24 is expected to be even drier with breezy conditions which will make the situation even more serious.

It's possible that the existing wildfires could continue to spread and any smaller fires that may be undetected now could grow.

The drought monitor updates every Thursday.
