The City of Odessa is still working to get back online after a "cyber incident" began impacting vital city services and functions almost three weeks ago. The West Texas town first reported the incident on November 21 and is hoping to get online by Thursday, December 5. All city departments and their operations are impacted.

The cyber incident that involved a "malicious script" has been impacting residents' abilities to pay bills, and forced the county court system to reschedule dockets and revert to paper methods of filing. Odessa's IT department the "malicious script" was identified and removed the same day the incident was reported by the city, but the additional time was required "to complete the full system scrub," the city said in a previous news release.

On Monday, December 2, the city stated that officials were continuing to diligently work to "resolve the issue," but noted that city services would continue to be disrupted in the meantime. No late fees will be applied to payments impacted by the outage, and the city said that no services will be disconnected as they continue to work to restore the network infrastructure.

Bills can be paid using money orders or checks delivered the Odessa City Hall. The Municipal Court continues to be impacted and the city said the earliest rescheduled dates will begin on Thursday.

The City of Odessa said on Monday that workers are "in the process of installing new, more accurate water meters to replace older ones," and that residents will be able to view improved insights on water usage. MySA has reached out to the City of Odessa for more information.
