What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Dunwoody restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:
Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.
Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.
Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.
Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.
Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Dunwoody, GA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:
Clean Water Damage
This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.
Gray Water Damage
Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.
Black Water Damage
The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:
- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Dunwoody, GA
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Dunwoody High School students are back on campus after a water main break temporarily relocated them on Wednesday.
Dunwoody city officials said there was a leak on the 12-inch water main break on Vermack Road. The water main break caused homes, nearby businesses, and Dunwoody High School to have little to no water.
“We were trying to get our kids to school and it was a disaster because there was a lot of water gushing out onto the street.” neighbor Mo Samuga told Channel 2′s Tom Regan.
Many nearby residents woke up to find their faucets dry.

“I get up and turn the water to wash my face, and there’s no water. So I run down to the kitchen to find out what in the world is going on. Again, no water. This is the first time in 45 years here that I have had no water.” said neighbor Linda Shulin.
The DeKalb County School District moved Dunwoody students to Chamblee High School on Wednesday morning.
The city dispatched crews to work on the “complicated repair” but crews were able to fix it by 12:15 p.m.
“As service is restored, customers in the affected area may experience brown water and are encouraged to run the faucets inside and outside their homes/businesses to clear the internal plumbing,” the watershed department said.
TRENDING STORIES:
Meanwhile, Dunwoody High School students returned back to their building on Wednesday afternoon. The district said students were dismissed on their normal schedule.
The school will provide bottled water and all after-school activities will go on as planned.
Water department officials said there could still be sediment in the water, and urged residents to let their faucets run for a while until the water turns clear. Road crews are filling the hole where the broken water main was removed. It’s unclear how soon the road section will reopen.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — The increasingly popular tech-infused mini golf experience — Puttshack — is opening its second Metro Atlanta venue at High Street in Dunwoody Nov. 6.
The company says the 26,000-square-foot venue will feature four nine-hole mini golf courses with the company’s Trackaball technology that automatically keeps score and lets guests focus on the game.
Puttshack Dunwoody will be on the second floor of High Street, Suite 210, adjacent to the development’s central greenspace.
The venue includes direct course access from private event spaces and an outdoor terrace overlooking High Street, a multi-phased, mixed-use destination from GID at Perimeter Center Parkway and Hammond Drive.
Wendy Adam, senior vice president of commercial asset management for GID, said developers are committed to bringing experiential brands like Puttshack to the community as it transforms southwest Dunwoody’s High Street.
The new venue will feature two ADA-compliant courses and KultureCity certification, the company says.
Following the successful debut of its first location at The Interlock in West Midtown in 2021, CEO Logan Powell said the company is excited to expand its Metro Atlanta footprint into Dunwoody.
“Atlanta was home to our very first U.S. venue, and the local support has been incredible,” Powell said. “With our unique blend of high-tech mini golf, an upscale menu and vibrant atmosphere, Puttshack offers a one-of-a-kind experience that brings people together for unforgettable moments.”
Puttshack Dunwoody will offer a globally inspired menu featuring signature and seasonable shareable plates, flatbreads and salads. One local standout dish — the Georgia Tailpipes — features crispy spring rolls filled with house-smoked pulled chicken, bacon-collard greens and pimento cheese, served with BBQ and peach dipping sauces. The company says $1 from each order goes toward the Giving Kitchen, an organization supporting food service workers.
The full-service bar will showcase a handpicked selection of craft cocktails along with zero-proof drinks, wine and local beers from Georgia breweries like SweetWater, Monday Night Brewing and Creature Comforts.
Puttshack’s business hours are 4-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m.-12 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday.
Kids are welcome until 8 p.m. when the venue becomes 21 and older.
Guests can begin to book game and dining reservations starting Oct. 23 at www.puttshack.com/groups-and-parties/dunwoody.

DUNWOODY, Ga. — Few foods are as satisfying than a classic burger with melted cheese, and one spot in Georgia has earned the bragging rights to call its burger "the best," according to Reader's Digest.
The magazine named NFA Burger in Dunwoody as the best burger in the Peach State, earning it a place among the magazine's "Best Burgers from Coast to Coast" list.
Located inside a Chevron off Chamblee Dunwoody Road, NFA has been operating at its location since 2019, according to Reader's Digest. The publication describes the burgers as being "crisp, caramelized perfection" served on a soft Martin's roll.
Don't expect an expansive menu: The only items for order are the classic burger, a couple of hot dogs and a lone side of house chips. There are plenty of fixin's to go on top, including a signature "sassy sauce." Just don't ask for ketchup on any sandwich... according to the menu, it'll cost you about $1 million. But don't worry, they'll put it on the side for free.
According to NFA Burger's Trip Advisor entry, the joint is the recipient of Best Burger in Georgia in Food and Wine and Food Insider; Top 47 Burgers in America by Thrillist; Eater's - Top 30 Iconic Dishes in Atlanta; and the 2020 Atlanta's Best Burger by the AJC. So, it makes sense how it tops Reader's Digest's list.
