A Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company is looking to make a major investment in the Memphis area and bring almost 300 new jobs to the city.
On Friday, the Economic Development Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County (EDGE) announced AAON is seeking a 15-year tax incentive for a $238.5 million investment at 5106 Tradeport Drive in southeast Memphis. The company launched in 1988 and manufactures HVAC systems for both commercial and industrial use.
The 15-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) is for a 35.66-acre property at Tradeport Drive. AAON would purchase and renovate an existing 787,000-square-foot manufacturing and logistics facility at the site. The new hub would add 291 new jobs with an average wage of $57,232, according to the PILOT application.
"Memphis continues to prove itself as a vibrant hub for economic growth and opportunity," EDGE President and CEO Joann Massey said in a statement. "We are committed to welcoming innovative companies like AAON that invest in our community and support the creation of new jobs, further strengthening the city’s position as a key player in the manufacturing and industrial sectors."
According to the PILOT application, AAON would purchase the existing building for $63 million and invest an additional $30 million for renovations. The company plans to spend $145.5 million on machinery and equipment costs.

The PILOT has a community reinvestment credit worth $38,649,700 and a two-year ramp-up period. The AAON hub will generate an estimated $29.1 million in local tax revenues during its PILOT term. The facility will add more than 200 net new jobs, with estimates of a total employee headcount of 856 by 2035, according to the PILOT application.

Influenza-like illness activity is low. Last week, 2.3% of ED visits were for ILI. This is lower than the 2.6% we saw at the same time last year.
Currently, people ages 5-24 years old are being seen in the ED more frequently for ILI. The 0-4 year old age group is the second highest.

The data shared here is Emergency Department visits, outpatient visits and the number of positive flu tests from local providers.
Influenza-like illness (ILI) is defined as Fever >100◦ plus cough or sore throat, not laboratory-confirmed influenza.
Classification of ILI is based upon symptoms only and does not require testing.
Influenza is not a reportable condition, so any data collected is voluntarily provided by community members.
Not all Emergency Department (ED) visits published here are diagnosed as influenza; some are discharged with a diagnosis of rhinovirus, bronchitis, or other upper respiratory infection. This data is considered preliminary and are not confirmed diagnoses of the disease.
The ED data is retrieved from the Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE-NSSP). Currently, 11 out of the 12 ED's in Shelby County submit data to ESSENCE-NSSP. Off-season ILI is included for baseline comparison.
Outpatient visit data is collected by the CDC's Sentinel Provider Network and reported to Tennessee Department of Health weekly.
Some local providers also voluntarily report the number of positive flu tests. This data is presented in a graph above.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The resting places of dozens of pets are in question after a piece of property changed hands.
Now, a pet owner is frustrated after finding out her pets' burial areas were allegedly bulldozed.
Linda Swindler says she has around eight cats buried at Pinecrest Pet Cemetery on Hacks Cross Road in Memphis.
She said just days before Thanksgiving, she went to put more flowers on their plots, but she couldn’t find them.
After weeks, Swindler found what she was looking for.
“Up, up. This is one of mine, this is one of mine, mine,” she said when she found some of the decorations on the burial plot of her cat Bella.
She found them in a pile of headstones belonging to dozens of other pets.
One of Swindler’s cats has been there for nearly 30 years. She was surprised to find how damaged not only her plots were, but others.
“Look at this, they just threw it and broke it all up. But this one, it’s one of mine,” she said.
She believes just over a month ago, the cemetery was bulldozed, leaving behind a pile of headstones and destroyed burial plots.
The owner of the cemetery recently passed away, according to a voice message left on the cemetery’s phone. The message also noted that there would be no new business at the cemetery until an owner is established.
After searching through Shelby County property records for the owner of 5151 Hacks Cross Road, it shows Khalid Haimed as the owner.
“I bought it from the tax sale and I am trying to get rid of it,” said Haimed.
Assessors' records show he bought the land for just under $70,000 in 2023.
Hamied said he did not know the 3.5 acres of land he purchased contained a pet cemetery when he bought it.
“When I found out it was a pet cemetery, I was so mad. I lost all my money,” said Haimed. “I don’t even like that street anymore, Hacks Cross, because I lost my money over there. I don’t like it.”
He went on to say he does not know who allegedly bulldozed through the cemetery and he wants to get rid of the property.
“Yep, that’s one of mine,” said Swindler as she found more decorations crushed in mud.
She said she wants to know who will take care of the property or how she can get her pets moved to another cemetery.
“That’s what I am trying to stop, find out what I can do, what needs to be done, what can be done, if anything,” she said.
Haimed said he does not have plans for the land or the cemetery right now. He said he originally bought the land to build a home for his family.
As for the pet owner’s burial plots destroyed, he said he does not know anything about that.
