What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Lapeer restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Lapeer, MI, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Lapeer, MI

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

LAPEER COUNTY — Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Monday announced that 145,134 Michigan voters cast their vote on the state’s first day of early voting on Saturday (Oct. 26), far exceeding the expectations of state and local election officials.

Clerks across Lapeer County on Monday reported strong turnout and interest in early voting, with many reporting lines out the door Saturday morning. On Monday, local clerks said there was a steady flow of people visiting municipal voting sites.

In 2022, Michigan voters passed an amendment to the state constitution expanding voting rights, including a minimum of nine days of early in-person voting. This is the first general election that Michigan voters have the option to vote at an in-person early voting site. Voters have until Sunday, Nov. 3 to vote early. Eligible Michigan citizens can still register to vote in person up to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5 with proof of residency at their city or township clerk’s office. Voters can register and cast a ballot on the same day.

Absentee ballots may also be returned in person until the end of Election Day. Clerks recommend Lapeer County voters hand deliver their absentee ballots and not to use the postal service to ensure all ballots are delivered and counted on Election Day.

Lapeer Clerk Romona Sanchez is pleased to see the strong response to early in-person voting underway at Lapeer City Hall. “We’ve had a good turnout. Everyone seems to be pretty positive,” said Sanchez. “I’d like to see 100% of the population turn out. That’s not going to happen, but I’m always happy to see more people participating in elections.”

On Saturday in Lapeer, there were 178 early voters and 74 on Sunday and traffic was steady on Monday. In Lapeer, there are 6,933 registered voters. There have been 1,564 requests for absentee ballots in the City of Lapeer. As of Monday, said Sanchez, 1,119 had been returned.

Sherry Frederick of Lapeer told The County Press on Monday, “I want my vote to count. Today I can do it. Who knows what might happen between now and Election Day.”

Dawn Sawicki-Franz, Imlay City clerk, said there was a waiting line Saturday morning outside the Imlay Township Hall where Imlay City, Imlay Township and Goodland Township voters can cast an early vote. “We’ve been very, very busy, which shows there’s a lot of interest in the early voting,” said Franz. “I think people like it for the convenience factor, especially if they have to work or will be traveling on Election Day. This gives people the chance to get it done early when it works for them during the early voting period.”

On Saturday, reported Franz, 69 Imlay City voters cast early ballots — while there were 140 Imlay Township residents and 64 in Goodland Township.

Elba Township Clerk Rena Fountain said there was 182 early voting ballots cast Saturday and 108 on Sunday. By mid-day Monday, 106 ballots had been cast.

“It’s fairly steady. People are starting to take advantage of it. I think a lot of people like the convenience of it,” said Fountain.

In Oregon Township, clerk Michelle Osip is equally impressed with the turnout of early voters in the township. On Saturday, 201 residents participated in early voting, while there were 124 on Sunday and 130 by mid-day Monday.

In Oregon Township, there are 5,015 registered voters. In the township, residents requested 1,330 absentee ballots and as of Monday 943 had been returned.

“Hopefully, it will make Election Day a little easier if more people have already voted by Nov. 5,” said Osip. “I think it’s going well. People seem to like the early voting option.”

In Metamora Township, clerk Suzanne Clark said, “I’m happy to see it finally getting utilized. Hopefully it will help on Election Day to have a lot of people already voted. It’s good to see.”

On Saturday, in Metamora Township, 188 people voted early and 90 on Sunday. By Monday afternoon, another 130 township residents had cast their ballots.

On Monday, at the Deerfield Township Hall where voters from the townships of Burlington, Burnside, Deerfield, Marathon, North Branch and Rich are casting their early votes, North Branch Township Clerk Amy Bridger-Snoblen said they’re averaging more than 300 people a day (combined from all townships).

“We were all surprised by the turnout we’ve had in all 18 townships (in Lapeer County). Maybe this means Election Day will go smoother because more people have already voted. We’re hoping,” said Snoblen.

Both early in-person voting and absentee voting allow voters to cast a ballot prior to Election Day. However, there are key differences between the two methods of voting.

Early voting allows voters to cast a ballot similar to how they would do so at a polling place on Election Day. Voters are issued a ballot and can complete it and personally insert it into the tabulator at their early voting site.

Absentee voting allows voters to request a ballot by mail, online or in person at their local clerk’s office. Voters can complete their absentee ballot at home or at their local clerk’s office and submit it in an envelope by mail, in person or by drop box. After an absentee ballot is received by the local clerk, the voter’s absentee ballot is processed and tabulated by their local clerk.

New in 2024, absentee voters have the option to take their completed absentee ballot to their early voting site or their polling place on Election Day and insert it directly into the tabulator.

Absentee voters also have the flexibility to “spoil” their ballot, or change their vote, after it has been submitted in certain circumstances.
