MESA (AZFamily)—Friends and family describe 26-year-old Victoria Cardenas as a kind, caring, and compassionate woman whose vibrant personality brings a smile to everyone around her.
Cardenas means a lot to many people, and they’re not ready to say goodbye.
The East Valley business owner was involved in a horrific car crash Monday afternoon and is currently in critical condition at the Desert Banner Medical Center in Mesa.
Victoria’s mother, Amber Cardenas, said her daughter had to be pried out of her vehicle.
“It’s a miracle she’s alive,” said Amber. “She was trapped underneath there. There isn’t much of her car left.”
Victoria was driving Eastbound along the U.S 60 freeway, near the Ironwood exit, when an older pick-up truck carrying a flatbed full of long metal pipes crashed into her, authorities said.
The truck reportedly lost control, jackknifed, and then swerved across the median into oncoming traffic, slamming into Victoria’s car.
She was rushed to the hospital with multiple skull fractures and broken bones.
She is currently in a coma.
“I just try and keep her calm because I know it is scary,’ said Amber. " I know she hears me, when she hears my voice, I just say mommy is here, you are in hospital and you are going to get better, don’t be scared, I am here.”
Victoria owns a ceramics shop in Apache Junction called Tor’s Mudslinger.
It’s a business her mother says her daughter is very passionate about.
Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help Victoria while she’s in the hospital.
Everyone is hoping and praying that Victoria will recover.
“She’s a fighter,” said Victoria’s mother. “I know, I have faith that she’s going to come back. I know my baby is going to be OK, I know it.”
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the driver of the truck has been cited for failing to control his vehicle to avoid a collision and not wearing a seatbelt.

The deadline to register to vote for the November election is October 7, according to the Secretary of State's website. If you have yet to register, it is now too late to do so, and you will not be able to cast a ballot in Arizona.
When is the last day to request an early ballot?
Per the Arizona Secretary of State's Office, the deadline for accepting requests for a ballot-by-mail for the November general election is Oct. 25.
When is the deadline to mail back my ballot?
State elections officials say ballot-by-mail must be received by county elections officials by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
"We highly recommend that you mail your ballot back at least 7 to 10 days before the election," officials wrote.
Besides mailing back the ballot, officials with the Arizona Secretary of State's Office say people can return their ballot at "any ballot drop-box, drop-off location, early voting location, or Election Day voting location in your county on or before Election Day."

The theranostic market currently faces a shortage of high-quality development and manufacturing space capable of meeting the volume needs of radiopharmaceutical treatments used in late-stage clinical trials, as well as those in the development pipeline that will soon receive regulatory approvals. Nucleus’ new space will help fulfill both of those needs, allowing its partners to produce crucial theranostics across the country. Nucleus will also build a new facility in Philadelphia, PA for a total of more than 100,000-square-feet of capacity between the two new sites. Once operational, the sites will allow Nucleus to more fully realize its commitment to a nationwide network capable of serving the ever-growing demand for theranostics across the U.S. ahead of the Rochester, MN site that will come online in early 2025.

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — The oohs, ahhs, and spooky boos fill Osage Avenue in Mesa every night in October.
The Santa Rita Ranch neighborhood, near Guadalupe and Signal Butte Roads, has been dubbed “Halloween Town,” with homeowners flaunting their hauntings for hundreds of families.
“I think that’s what’s really turned it special for us; it is just contributing that holiday spirit for others,” said homeowner and Halloween extraordinaire Brittany Rowley.
Rowley started decorating her front lawn four years ago with only a few prop skeletons. Her new neighbor at the time, Alan Blume, complimented her work and said he goes all-out for Christmas.
“We parted ways and he (Blume) said ‘Okay, I got you guys in Christmas‘ and when we went inside I looked at my husband and said ’Okay, challenge accepted',” said Rowley.
Rowley’s husband explained that Blume did not mean to start a competition, but his wife said she understood it was a challenge.
Since then, the two households have been stepping up their game.
“And after the first year, when I was really declared the winner, we started these overhead lights and got all of the neighbors to go in on it and kind of turned it more into a community thing,” said Rowley.
Blume said the neighborhood went viral last year after someone posted about it on the social media app TikTok.
It made every night busy, especially Halloween.
“Last year several thousand (came). We had to close the street down and it did look like Disneyland, which is fine, but this year we do expect the same,” said Blume.
He said their popularity trend is still going strong, with a couple hundred vehicles driving down their street every night.
“I’ve met people from all over the world coming to see our house, crazy,” said Blume.
Blume said he spent about $2,300 on candy to pass out on Halloween. This year, his family is taking donations to buy candy for the families visiting their neighborhood.
Last year, Arizona‘s Family reported on thieves who were caught stealing a couple of decorations from Rowley’s yard. Luckily, Rowley said they haven’t had any similar issues this season.
However, she and Blume said their HOA tightened restrictions on holiday decorations by shortening the days given for setup and breakdown.
They believe other neighbors may have complained because of the traffic.
By 10 p.m., the street shuts down any music to follow the noise ordinance. The lights remain on for a couple more hours.
There is no admission fee to see these spooky sights! The lights turn on at 6 p.m. every night, but people can see the decorations during the day, too.
Rowley and Blume ask that visitors be courteous to homeowners and respect their properties.
People are not allowed to touch displays and are asked to properly dispose of trash.
