What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?

We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Springfield restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:

Infrared

Infrared Cameras

Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.

Moisture

Moisture Meters

We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.

Air Movers

Air Movers

This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.

Generators

Ozone Generators

These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.

Xtractor

Xtreme Xtractor

This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.

Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About

Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Springfield, MA, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:

Clean Water Damage

Clean Water Damage

Clean

This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.

Gray Water Damage

Gray Water Damage

Gray-Water

Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.

Black Water Damage

Black Water Damage

Black-Water

The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.

If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:

Stop the Source of Water
  • Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
  • Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
  • Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Springfield, MA

Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.

We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.

After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.

Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.

The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.

  • Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
  • Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
  • Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
  • Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston apprehended an unlawfully present 20-year-old Guatemalan noncitizen charged in Massachusetts with rape and indecent assault and battery against a minor. Officers with ERO Boston arrested Selvin Alex Galvez-Mejia Oct. 18 in Springfield.

“Selvin Alex Galvez-Mejia stands accused of horrifically victimizing a Massachusetts child and represents a significant threat to our neighborhoods,” said ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We owe it to the children of our New England communities to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen threats.”

Galvez unlawfully entered the United States on an unknown date, at an unknown location and without being inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official.

The Springfield District Court arraigned Galvez July 18 for two counts aggravated rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. The Springfield District Court later released Galvez after he posted bail.

Officers with ERO Boston arrested Galvez Oct. 18 in Springfield and issued him a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge. Galvez remains in ERO custody.

ERO conducts removals of individuals without a lawful basis to remain in the United States, including at the order of immigration judges with the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review. The Executive Office for Immigration Review is a separate entity from the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Immigration judges in these courts make decisions based on the merits of each individual case, determining if a noncitizen is subject to a final order of removal or eligible for certain forms of relief from removal.

As one of ICE’s three operational directorates, ERO is the principal federal law enforcement authority in charge of domestic immigration enforcement. ERO’s mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of U.S. communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws, and its primary areas of focus are interior enforcement operations, management of the agency’s detained and non-detained populations, and repatriation of noncitizens who have received final orders of removal. ERO’s workforce consists of more than 7,700 law enforcement and non-law enforcement support personnel across 25 domestic field offices and 208 locations nationwide, 30 overseas postings, and multiple temporary duty travel assignments along the border.

Members of the public can report crimes and suspicious activity by dialing 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing the online tip form.

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Before you head to the polls for Election Day, Western Mass News is taking a deep dive into the five questions voters in Massachusetts will be seeing on their ballots. Question 1 asks if the state auditor should have the power to audit the legislator.

“Our current legislature is the least transparent legislature of the entire nation,” said Massachusetts State Auditor Diana DiZoglio.

That’s the main message DiZoglio wants the Commonwealth to remember when walking into the voting booth. She said she has no ability to monitor how taxpayer money is being spent by the legislature.

LEARN MORE: 2024 Voter's Guide

“Right now, legislative leaders are refusing to comply with a basic audit by the Office of State Auditor that every other state entity complies with,” DiZoglio explained.

DiZoglio’s petition for ‘yes’ on Question 1 sounds like a no-brainer. the state auditor should be able to audit. “We have a handful of really powerful politicians in our state legislature who are actually denying the taxpayers of Massachusetts access to those documents, to those receipts,” she added.

However, political science professor and author Jarold Duquette wants the Commonwealth to know they may be voting ‘yes’ to disrupting the entire political structure of Massachusetts. A quick Google search will show you it’s hard to find opposition to Question 1, which is a reason why Duquette believes it’s undoubtedly going to pass, in part because there few and far between with the expertise to understand the full scope of the issue.

“The separation of powers and legislative supremacy of the Massachusetts constitution make it very clear that an executive officer can never have oversight over the legislature,” Duquette said.

However, when you read the job description of the state auditor, straight from the Massachusetts Constitution, it outlines every audit that can be done. The state legislature, though, is an exception. Duquette said it’s intentional and for a good reason.

“Every previous auditor who asked for the legal opinion on this issue got the same opinion and wisely chose not to pursue this because it’s not constitutional,” Duquette noted.

Duquette said he and his colleagues have concerns that giving the state auditor this kind of oversight over the legislature will open the floodgates and muddy the clearly defined system of checks and balances.

“All she wants to do is make it legal to ‘audit the legislature.’ That doesn’t make any sense. She’s a constitutional officer. A constitutional officer, duly elected, is probably the last person who should be playing fast and loose with the constitution,” Duquette added.

It’s something cautioned by DiZoglio’s predecessor, former state auditor Suzanne Bump, who even testified on the matter back in March. While addressing Beacon Hill, Bump reminded that all state auditors must follow the same playbook referred by the federal government. She testified that Question 1 would put Massachusetts entirely out of bounds.

“The proper subjects of government audits are government programs that have been authorized by the legislature to serve public purposes. They do not include the internal workings of the legislative branch of government,” Bump explained.

Duquette suggested just skipping Question 1 on your ballot if you can’t decide. Ultimately, it boils down to accountability and transparency and whose job it should be to enforce it.

“117 other audits have been conducted by the office of the state legislature throughout history and we’re simply seeking to return that past practice,” DiZoglio said.
