BROCKTON — As of Monday morning, 47 brush fires were actively burning throughout the state of Massachusetts, one of which was reported in Stoughton, according to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
On Sunday night, the Brockton Fire Department received multiple calls for smoke conditions from the brush fire in Stoughton, the Brockton Fire Department wrote in a post on Facebook.

Should Brockton residents be concerned about brush fires?
A small brush fire broke out behind the Walmart on Oak Street over the weekend, according to Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli.
The fire was quickly put out and there haven’t been any issues since, he said.
“When there’s brush and it’s been dry, we run into the potential of having some sort of brush fire. Obviously, Brockton is a little bit different because we don’t have as much open land for that to happen, but I think we always have concerns,” Nardelli said.
There was an elevated risk of fire in the Brockton and Taunton area Wednesday, Oct. 30, according to the NWS.
“The prolonged period of dry weather coupled with a very dry ground will continue to result in elevated fire weather concerns,” the NWS wrote in a special weather statement on Wednesday.
