What Tools Does Disaster Response Use for Water Damage Clean-Up?
We only use the best equipment! With our extensive experience in the Milwaukee restoration industry, we've acquired state-of-the-art tools designed to tackle a wide range of challenges. This experience has also allowed our technicians to identify which type of equipment is best for a particular situation. Some of the most common water damage restoration tools we use include:
Infrared Cameras
Our infrared cameras give us the ability to see moisture in walls and ceilings that is not visible to the naked eye, almost like having "X-ray" vision. This capability allows us to detect and address trapped and hidden humidity, significantly reducing the risk of mold growth.
Moisture Meters
We use moisture meters to measure moisture levels in cellulose material. Before and after the drying process, we will conduct moisture readings in all areas of your property. If we detect moisture in an unaffected area of your building, we'll get to work quickly to dry it.
Air Movers
This equipment is designed to work in conjunction with our dehumidifiers. While our dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air and convert it to a liquid, our Air Mover helps to circulate this moisture in the air so that the dehumidifier can effectively remove it.
Ozone Generators
These advanced tools enable us to cleanse affected surfaces and the air in a more effective manner. Ozone Generators work by causing oxygen molecules to implode, making them a valuable deodorization tool.
Xtreme Xtractor
This tool is great for tackling tough moisture after water damage. It allows us to apply direct pressure to a surface, like a carpet, that has soaked up water. The pressure helps draw out the water, making it easier to remove.
Top 3 Types of Water Damage You Should Know About
Water damage can strike without warning and can wreak havoc on your property, leaving you feeling hopeless and overwhelmed. Whether it's from a burst pipe, a severe storm, or an overflowing appliance, your property needs immediate water damage clean-up in Milwaukee, WI, to prevent further harm. Here are the top three types of water damage you should know about:
Clean Water Damage
This type of water damage happens from a "clean" source, such as rainwater or a broken pipe in your home. It's easier to clean up than others on this list but can still cause extensive property damage when ignored.
Gray Water Damage
Gray water damage stems from appliances such as toilets without feces, washing machines, and dishwashers. Gray water sometimes contains bacteria and contaminants that can make you or your family sick.
Black Water Damage
The name alone indicates the severity of this type of water damage. It's caused by backed-up sewer lines, river flooding, and standing water that supports bacteria growth. Black water presents serious health hazards and needs to be handled by professional water damage contractors.
If you suspect your home or business has been damaged by one or more of the types of water above, take the following steps:
- Be Safe: Turn off all electricity running through your property. Don't go near or touch any water you believe to be contaminated.
- Stop the Source of Water: If you're able, put a stop to the water at its source. That way, you can prevent more damage.
- Call Disaster Response: Contact our water damage company ASAP for water restoration services. Our team is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Our Process for Water Damage Restoration in Milwaukee, WI
Having a water damage restoration company by your side who knows how to remediate moisture is a key factor in getting your life back on track. At Disaster Response, we have refined our process over 40+ years of water damage clean-up experience. That way, we can provide customers with reliable, comprehensive service when they need it the most.
We utilize powerful pumps and vacuums to eliminate standing water from your property. Swift water removal is essential in minimizing damage and lowering the likelihood of mold growth. Our team is dedicated to ensuring efficient water extraction to prevent any additional complications.
After extracting water from your property, we dry and dehumidify the impacted areas. We use industrial-grade dehumidifiers and air movers to do so to eliminate moisture from walls, floors, and furniture. Proper drying helps prevent warping, swelling, and the growth of mold.
Whenever we deal with water damage, we have to address the potential contaminants and bacteria that can enter your home. We make sure to thoroughly clean and sanitize all affected areas to create a safe living environment. This involves cleaning carpets, upholstery, and personal belongings. Our technicians also use antimicrobial treatments to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
The final step in the process is the restoration of your home to its pre-damage condition. This comprehensive restoration process may encompass a range of tasks, from minor repairs such as replacing drywall and installing new carpeting to major reconstruction efforts. Rest assured that Disaster Response is fully equipped to manage all aspects of water damage restoration, from start to finish.
- Maintenance: Have your business or home's roof, appliances, and plumbing inspected by professionals to spot early signs of wear and tear.
- Water Alarms: If there is a flood or leak in your home, a water alarm can alert you so that you can take action immediately.
- Drainage: Your home needs proper drainage systems in place at all times. To prevent water buildup, be sure to unclog your downspouts and gutters.
- Cracks and Gaps: Be sure to seal up any cracks and gaps in your property's foundation to limit water from getting inside.

The Brief
MILWAUKEE - Dozens of school districts in southeast Wisconsin asked voters for tens of millions of dollars in funding on the Nov. 5 ballot. Here are some referendums FOX6 News previously covered and what to know about each as votes come on Tuesday night.
Franklin High School – PASSED
A referendum asked if voters support a $145 million construction project for Franklin High School.
Franklin Public Schools said the job market is demanding access to technical education classes and skills, but that's hard to do when lab space is limited. Superintendent Annalee Bennin said the high school's existing lab space is more than 50 years old and there is a waitlist for classes in construction, manufacturing and agriculture.
With the referendum passing, $123 million will go toward the high school and build things like a technical education shop, a five-court field house and additional classrooms and parking. It will cost taxpayers anywhere from $82 to $410 more per year depending on the property value of their homes.
Wauwatosa School District – PASSED
The first question asked voters to approve a $16 million increase for the next school year. It would allow the school district to pay teacher salaries and benefits. The second question would help fund district projects. Both ballot measures passed.
The district will get $60 million over the next two decades. It comes after the district made a big mistake in its budget. In August, FOX6 News obtained documents showing leaders put about $9.3 million aside for the current school year. But really, the district needed to budget more than $13 million.
Fixing the problem depended on the fate of the referendum. If it didn't pass, leaders said they would have to slash jobs and insurance benefits.
Arrowhead High School – SPLIT
Taxpayers were asked for more than $250 million. Superintendent Conrad Farner said Arrowhead High School is showing its age. After a year of surveys and studies, Farner said the school board settled on two referendums for the November ballot.
A nearly $2 million annual operations referendum over the course of four years to pay for things like utilities and special education. That referendum passed.
The second referendum was defeated. It sought $261 million facilities referendum to consolidate Arrowhead's split campus into one new school. Currently, Farner said students have to walk three-quarters of a mile between the north and south campuses.
Park View Middle School – PASSED
After the district failed to get a $102 million referendum passed in April, Superintendent Joe Koch said the school board came up with a leaner pitch to voters for the November ballot.
The new $89 million plan would allow for larger classrooms. Sixth graders would join their seventh- and eighth-grade peers in the building to free up space at the elementary school level.
If the referendum doesn’t pass on Tuesday, Koch said his team will have a meeting first thing on Wednesday to try and figure out "Plan C." If approved, district officials said the average homeowner in the village will pay an extra $100 per year in taxes.

Reaction and statements
State Superindendent Jill Underly
"Wisconsin families value public education and understand our schools need sustainable funding to keep the lights on and provide a high-quality education to our kids. At the same time, they understand this responsibility should not disproportionately fall on local taxpayers.
"Our state legislature has severely underfunded public schools for well over a decade, and it has led to a record number of districts going to referendum to try and fix severe financial constraints on their own. Too many communities were forced to vote Tuesday whether to increase property taxes just so their local schools can pay staff, heat and cool their buildings, and provide a quality education.
"There’s a better path. We must reinvest in our public schools and the future of our kids. The upcoming biennial budget provides yet another opportunity for the legislature to uphold its responsibility to appropriately fund public schools, and to stop forcing Wisconsin communities to make impossible choices."

You can also track the status of your absentee ballot or see the location of your municipality’s absentee ballot drop box if it has one and has uploaded that information.
Polling place hours are the same across Wisconsin, no matter where you live. You need to be in line by 8 p.m. to vote.
Go to to see whether you’re registered to vote. If you’re not, you can fill out a paper registration form at your polling place (as long as you’re an eligible elector) and then proceed to vote. In order to register, a proof-of-residence document with a current address is required. Learn more at .
Online voter registration for future elections resumes after the Nov. 5 General Election.
All absentee ballots must arrive to your polling place or central count facility by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. It’s too late to mail back your ballot.
Instead, contact your municipal clerk to learn where you should return your absentee ballot. Depending on your municipality, options include dropping it off at your municipal clerk’s office or, if available, in a secure drop box. If you use either of these options on Election Day, do so as early as possible to allow ample time for your local election officials to deliver the ballot to your polling place or central count facility to be counted.
Depending on your municipality, you may be able to deliver absentee ballots directly to your normal polling place, but again, it must arrive before polls close at 8 p.m. Municipalities that process absentee ballots in central count facilities may require the voter to return the absentee ballot directly to the central count facility, and you would not be able to return it to your polling place.
Most voters already have the photo ID they need to vote, such as a Wisconsin driver license or ID. If you have photo ID questions, you are urged to visit or call for information. A voter who does not have an acceptable photo ID must be offered a provisional ballot and the opportunity to submit a photo ID within three days after the election.
Pursuant to the Voting Rights Act, any Wisconsin voter who requires assistance with mailing or delivering an absentee ballot to their municipal clerk due to a disability must be permitted to receive assistance from a person of the voter’s choice. This person cannot be the voter’s employer or an agent of the employer. This person also cannot be an officer or agent of the voter’s union. Contact your municipal clerk if you have questions.
